View Full Version : Bands that have split that should never have
In opposition to Robbies thread on bands tha should have quit, what about those that did, and really should'nt have.
My few have to be
Mansun: Paul Draper is a songwriting genius, and after the Kleptomaina CD you could see that, from the somewhat depressing Serotonin to the somewhat amusing Stripper Vicar. All fantastic testament to the band that was the underdog for the British Indie Scene. The collection of tracks on the Kleptomainia, un recored stuff, and the "lost" 4th album is a testament to what could have been.
Rage Against The Machine: Their musical and politial infuence speaks for itself
Pink floyd - Did you not see live8
Joel
With all the recent 80's revivals I wish Spandau Ballet hadn't split and fell out....Gary Kemp has numerous court orders preventing Tony Hadley even singing the songs as he actually wrote so many of them!!
Shame as it is the fans that suffer!!
:(
Don_Kiddick 05-08-2005, 22:03 Peters and Lee :(

Can you put bands in that have had members died so they had to split?
Take That shouldn't have split.. Cos Robbie "I am Mancunian twatty chav" Williams can't sing for **** without back up.
faith no more DEFINATLEY!!! im a big fan and very lucky that i got to see them on their last tour (and my first gig)
mike patton is one of the best vocalists around and it really gets to me that wether its solo, mr bungle or phantomas...its just pap!
ermm...GUNS N ROSES .. kinda.... they `technically' havent split up... but its not the same :( sadly it could easily be back to a classic line up if it wasent for axl rose...ive heard on lots of occasions that the other members would be up for it....just him thats holding it up
p.s axl.....its been 14years.....(ironically that is a song title on the last `proper' album they released) come on fella!! pull your finger out

Never say never eh,
One band that split and did get back, and better than ever i think are LIVING COLOUR although i doubt they'll ever tour the UK.
A Brilliant fusion of styles but that made it difficult to fit in to any particular genre and probably makes them difficult to market.
still doing the biz in the USA though.

top band i actually saw them twice once supporting anthrax at the nec in birmingham 89 and at the uni in sheffield 93 ,for some reason the fall was the support band that night .........very bizzare

They have just released a new album called 'The Dangermen Sessions Vol 1'
Most bands split cos of 'musical differences' so things wouldn't have been the same had they remained together anyway. Still gutted when The Specials went there seperate ways.....i know there have been several re-incarnations but its not the same.
I am a big Madness fan Rich and too be fair they were always the worst band in the world at splitting up lol  They kept reforming for Madstock, then Suggs released a couple of solo albums which featured nerly all of the band one way or another - they even rerecorded some of his 'solo' stuff for the Lovestruck album.
Not heard the DM Sessions yet as have been told I have to wait for my birthday next week.
I like all the videos byt 'Shut Up' & 'The Sun & The Rain' are probably my faves :)
the_rudeboy 06-08-2005, 23:59 New album is very 'old skool' Madness......proper second gen ska,

I've read theres a few more random covers but that they work weell?
Generally I think it is good that bands do split. Then you are left with good memories of them (usually in their prime) rather than them becoming old, embarrasing and touring their "greatest hits" for years on end.
IMHO it's very rare for a band to improve once they've been playing together for about 10 years - and many less than that.
ps. Rich - Robbie Williams isn't a Manc - he's from Stoke.
Cream and Rage Against The Machine

Hey Shiesh!
I agree with you! Although i have recently took my missus to see a Spandau tribute band called Highly Strung and in all fairness they were absolutely fantastic! Their lead singer (Lee James i think his name is?) looks/sounds just like Hadley! Great live sax too!
steveb2007 17-11-2007, 15:37 The Jam
The Specials
It Bites
The Smiths
Guns 'n Roses
Although in a way they never were a band, the band who made the Soundtrack for Josie and the Pussycats was fabulous. Wish they had made more records.

I agree with you.
Although it's a shame that John Bonham died, Led Zeppelin were declining musically as a band when he snuffed it.

He's from Stoke though.
There was an Irish band called Celtus who were absolutely wonderful. I was gutted when I found out they had split.
