My little Tilly dog has not been well for some time now and i have felt that my vets were not being helpful or approachable with us so on Monday we registered at Peak vets and had our first appointment on Tuesday evening.

Already my little girl has had some tests for renal failure which show there is a problem. She is going in today for an ultrasound and a different blood test. She either has a liver problem or an adrenal gland condition causing her to drink lots, be very hungry and lethargic. She is also in pain due to us not being able to effectively treat her joint pain and arthiritis as we don't know what is wrong with her and we could potentially make it worse by giving the wrong pain killer.

So wish us luck today as we may finally know what is going on with her so that we can make her more comfortable.

Tilly is 16 but we have only had her 2.5yrs, we got her from Thornberry at
14yrs youung as we just couldn't leave an oldie, so please wish her luck she deserves to have another Xmas with us in the Adz household with her big brother hairy Albert :D.

Thanks guys H x

Thank you everyone :D

I came home from work this evening as Adz had picked her up from the vets and for the first time this week she gave me a right telling off for at least 15mins, squeaking at me and making sure i knew she was cross for being left  (My Tilly is a little talker not a barker she just makes noises at you and tells you what she wants).

Her liver is a right mess but her kidneys are fine, she has had some pain meds and is walking better and seems to be in less pain. She has even had a little walk up the road which is fab as she has not had a walk for about 2 weeks so i know she enjoyed it.
We are waiting for some more bloods to come back but the vets have advised doing a liver biopsy but with a needle rather than opening her up, although i want to talk about this further as i don't want her having to go through things she doesn't need to or that serve no prupose considering her age etc. At least we know that we need to be careful about her pain meds so as to not make the liver worse.

Peak vets have been fab and so kind, i was in a right state when i dropped her off they offered me a cuppa and a cuddle :D so i really really am so glad we went to them. They have been so gentle and kind with her as she really is a delicate girl with her thin little rickety body and giant bat ears

Again than you all for your kind words

Oh Adz I'm so pleased that at least you will get to know whats happening in there.

As you well know - you can't 'fix' a body as its getting old (god knows i keep trying it on myself), all you can do is keep them as comfortable as you can and ease any pain or discomfort.

16 is old - and as long as the lady is comfortable and free from pain and you are happy that you understand whats happening in there, and the drugs are doing just what bit they can to help

I know you will be sensible with it all. But we also have to remember that sometimes some of the things that we get as we get older - humans as well as dogs, is bloody painful and bloody horrible. I don't know if a bad liver is painful? is it?

That is one VERY LUCKY miss Tilly to have found you all - someone was smiling on her went u went to Thornberry eh?
xx

Whippee to Peak - yet again.

Sorry to see that Tilly isn't well Adz, they are such a worry at that age, my Meg is 16 in February and she is now getting wobbly on her old pins and falls down sometimes although doesn't seem in pain....I really can empathise with how you must be feeling because it is all very hard to come to terms with.
As Rain says keep her warm and comfortable and I will keep my fingers crossed that her tests come back better than expected.
Give Tilly a gentle Cuddle from me :)

I'm looking after my friend's boxer while they're on holiday next week. She's been quite poorly for the past couple of weeks, heart problems, incontinence and she's blundered round and knocked everything over a couple of times, which the vet said could be strokes or a brain tumour.

I popped round to get the instructions for her meds this afternoon, and she came bouncing out of the living room to see if I had a treat for her! She's acting exactly the same as usual. The heart meds have sorted out the irregular heartbeat, the liquid has sorted out the incontinence and she's alert and knows what's going on!!!

It's amazing how much difference the right treatment can make, like Mina with her arthritis pills, she's so much livelier now, and can positively bounce on occasion!!!

Dozy i am hoping the same happens to Tilly.

She has been much more with it today and i even heard Adam at one point telling her to get her head out of my bag and to stop being naughty hehe!!
She is still very stiff but not so lame, she has certainly found her voice as well i did not sleep well last night i swear she is punishing me for leaving her at the vets and not picking her up!!

Had to take Albert in this morning though as he had managed to virtually pull a nail out so that needed removing dressing, pain meds and AB's. Am sick of the vets as nice as they are so far that is every day this week we have been in!! So am hoping for a vet free day tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone it means alot to now you are rooting for little Tilly she really is one lucky little dog and i do rather adore her.
