There are lots of teams around for this age group, which part of Sheffield are you in?

As an aside, if he fancies a game then my lad goes to Hillsborough on a Friday, Concord Mondays and Goals Saturday mornings for coaching.

There's a couple of teams that play around there, Eccclesfield Red Rose, Hillsborough Pumas, Earl Marshall, Millmoor Juniors (off Droppingwell) are four that spring to mind.

Regarding the training!

My little lad plays at Concord Mondays and Thursday but numbers have dropped off, I think it is under 8's and the coaches are decent. Hillsborough Leisure Centre for under 8's is 4.45-5.30 on a Friday and this is really busy with the kids all seeming to enjoy it.

The Goals is on a Saturday morning and there's about 15 kids that turn up, this is 10.30-12.

The cost for them all is about £3 per session, kids on the "Unlimited" scheme can do the ones at Concord and HIllsborough as part of the scheme.

Good luck, hope he enjoys it as I know mine does (even if it means going all over the place at weekends).
