Does anyone know which parts are being demolished?
IMHO they're some of the nicest buildings in Sheffield... is this 'progress'?
As far as I know Firth Hall (the one on Leopold Street with the wonderful facade and carvings) is listed, so I think that one's safe. I do like the art deco style building opposite the City Hall tram stop (platform direction towards town), and the building opposite the entrance to the Memorial Hall, on Holly Lane.
Anyone know any more?

Aren't there arguments about them ripping out the inside of Firth Hall or have I got the wrong building? I should know more about this one...

I'm not sure, any info is appreciated as I don't really know what's happening. I've not read anything about it, and couldn't find info on the council website. They've got fences on the West Street entrances saying Danger Demolition though, and a sign on Orchard Lane (the parallel street to West St, between the buildings and Fountain Precint) has a sign saying no parking nearby because of the cranes coming in.
Digging this thread up (not demolishing it just yet though)
It seems the hotel company (can't remember the name) has pulled out of the deal to build their hotel on the Firth hall site but the council seem desperate to get a hotel on it.
I love the buildings and would like to see something happen in the area, but does it need a hotel when we are having a 5 star hotel built next to the peace gardens and enough 'value' hotels around the centre?
Surley there are plenty of good ideas for the place that don't include hotels?
It looks like a case of one rule for the Council's pet projects, another for everyone else.
Some digging around the council website has come up with the following decisions about planning applications for the buildings made by ASK Property Development and Gleeson.
