Hi

I am looking for a pure gray kitten. If anyone has one or knows where I can get one can you please let me know. I am willing to pay but am not bothered whether it is pedigree (i.e. british blue) or not.

It is to go with a three year old (soon to be four in February) female cat, who has recently lost her brother; so I want it to be a kitten so that it does not threaten her position in the house (advice from an RSPCA officer).

It would be very well looked after and loved, and would receive everything it needs i.e. would be neutered, injected etc.

Thanks

Surely the animals personality/temrement should be more important than its colour?

Ive never seen a pure grey kitten that wasn't a pedigree. I have a british shorthair and they are beautiful friendly cats but do come at a cost. Try this site http://www.britishshorthair-breedersgroup.com/Kitens%20Available%202.htm if you decide on one.

Thanks for that Cuddly Cat - I have had a look at BSH but they all seem a long way away. As said I am willing to pay if I need to get a pedigree.

Yes Chini Chins the temprament is important but I am not sure you can judge what temprement they will have until they get a bit older and do very strongly believe that cats are a product of their envionment. If you are very loving with them, they will be with you. As stated I have looked into this and just because I want this kind of cat specifically; I do not see why this should be such an issue to you! It will have a really good home and will be looked after well, just because I want a certain colour does not mean that I am sacrificing anything else for that!

I hung out for a grey one to come along for years and years and didn't want any other coloured cat..
Delphi finally popped out literally next door to me, part of a mixed litter and is pure grey (mum is grey striped).. All I can say is well worth the wait cos I could eat him he's so darn lovely (probably even better with chilli sauce)...

I've had two- one was a mostly blue Burmese boy called Tico- he was very much a special needs cat because he was very far down the oriental 'take your house to pieces' scale. He was almost perfectly blue, although in sunlight you could see tabby markings in the finish of the coat down his tail (matt and glossy stripes, rather than a change in colour).

The other was a complete moggy called Sophie who was found starving in a skip on the Manor and who pood all over the house if we were out for more than an hour at a time (it was a protest, not separation anxiety) and who was a generally stroppy madam. She was a completely perfect blue though, with mauve nose leather and pads.

Both were utter gits on occasion and yet everyone cooed over them because they were grey. In terms of lovable cats with bomb proof gorgeous natures, Merlin was ginger and white, Tiffy is long haired and black and Arthur is very probably purebred British White- but none of them were chosen on colour.

My advice to the OP is to consider this- if you can have 'a lovely cat' or 'a grey cat' which one do you choose? Very few grey cats turn up in rescue and with many that do there's a reason why they're there.

The Shelter has had great problems with people only wanting to adopt grey ones or silver tabbies and I'm afraid that coat colour is just not a good reason on which to choose an animal that may cost you thousands of pounds and you may spend upwards of 20 years with as a companion.

If you meet a lovely cat which is also fortuitously grey then that's one thing, but what if you got a total (grey) monster which shredded you, your other cat and your house? How long before you begin to regret choosing on appearance rather than temperament?

My first moggie was a silver tabby & white, he was beautiful. I've always loved that coat colouring, hence my choice of a silver tabby maine coon :)

I would have gone for any colour cat but a white one! I wasnt particularly wanting another cat but when i went to my friends who fosters for cats protection alfie a pure white siamese x wouldnt leave me alone he chose me and his personality was great and knew he would fit in now i couldnt imagine life without the naughty boy who keeps me and the other cats on our toes such a lovable little rogue he is personality before colour for me :)

I didn't want a white one either, mainly because their hair is so obvious on the carpet. Now I have two! Billy's not completely white- he has 3 little grey patches on his head (spilled oil I think!) and his tail belongs to another cat who's also grey. Still I suppose his tail and splodges match- the rest of him is plain white though.

All of my lot are like the monochrome cat show actually. I used to have Merlin with her glorious bright orange and Tizzy with her lovely shimmering tortie mix (with one orange eyebrow) but my 4 could all have been shot with a black and white camera. 1 black with no white, 1 black with white patches, 1 white with no black, 1 white with grey bits.

Maybe I'll go for technicolour with my next one? I suppose it depends on what they have in their pussynality ;)

I waited for years for mine too - sorry Cooljules!! - and I'm so glad I did.

These are mine when they were kittens: -
Scribble and Fudge (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg90/JoeyGrey_photos/Photo-0068-1.jpg)

Fudge had kittens and I was really really hoping she would have some grey ones, but they were all black or black and white. I still fell in love with them though and ended up keeping Georgie who is just as cute and naughty and lovable: -

Georgie (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg90/JoeyGrey_photos/002.jpg)

And then I ended up adopting my foster cat Oblee who is ginger and white - not a colour I'd ever have chosen. But his personality is the best you could ever wish for in a cat - he gives me so much love back.

So I've seen it from both sides. If you really want a grey one then you should wait. But if you got a different coloured one you'll still fall in love with it.

I wasn't bothered about the colour when I was looking for a cat, I just wanted a cat and called a lady in the ad-mag she said the hers had gone but her friends cat had just had 2 kittens and they were to be ready soon, when I called her she promised to give me one once they were old enough. But when she emailed me pictures and I saw William I fell in love with his greyness! Then when I went to meet them he was by far the most friendly and playful.

OOooooh- he looks just like my Tico. Poor lad, he died for no apparent reason when he was 3.
