I've just been diagnosed with chronic fatigue so all my usual very active hobbies have gone out the window. I'm looking for something alternative to fill my time and also maybe a club so I can get out and meet new people. Any ideas? All suggestions very welcome!

Something creative - a craft of some description?

At the bottom of this page (http://www.sheffieldhelpyourself.org.uk/) there's an option to search the Sheffield Help Yourself Database by post code, so you could find out what's happening in your area.

If you've got any community centres near you, they often have posters up about what's going on in the area.

There are a couple of threads looking for people to get together for board games evenings - they would be low-energy events and if there are weeks when you can't even get to them, you won't be letting the others down because there's no continuity of the games.

Sorry to hear that. My son has had CF for the last 2 years, however, he is now getting back to something of what he used to be, in fact, yesterday he went climbing, albeit for a short time, but he still felt able to...Good Sign! He's been taking vitamins & supliments etc and he's got a program of self help from the internet. Getting back to what you were asking(!) There are yoga classes for CF sufferers, I think if you look in the ads in the Star or look on Google you'll find a class in Sheffield. Hope this is useful!!

Thanks for all your suggestions. Music and art are out the question due to a complete lack of talent (believe me, I've tried before). I'm going to start with making xmas cards and take it form there

Ging to be a dificult one, you either do a sport with others or you play with yourself on your own.

Why not try amateur dramatics, if you want to be part of a group?

Ant7 - of course I don't mind you asking. I used to do a lot of dancing as well as gym/running/aerobics and the odd spot of hiking. I'm still going to yoga and dance when I can summon the energy (even though the doctors have told me not to so I pace myself better but i need to for my sanity!). Amateur dramatics would be fun but I couldn't really commit myself to a performance in case I was too ill. I'll do it when i start to get better!

I was going to suggest dance, but you already do it! I'd say nearly half of the serious dancers (meaning they came out to all the events and never missed a class, not necessarily that they were competing seriously!) in the ballroom dance club I used to belong to were 50+, just doing it for a bit of exercise. If you were doing something more strenuous (Jazz, ballet, tap?) before, maybe look into beginners ballroom classes when you're feeling better. Its really quite low key for an activity when you do it socially. :)

Aside from that... pottery? Or Perhaps scrapbooking?
