View Full Version : Back to work interview - Job Centre
gina2007 21-11-2009, 22:01 Hi everyone
Just after a little advice/help.
Has anyone had a 'back to work interview' at JC? Just wanting to know what theyre like / what happens etc
:) Thanks
Gothic_Angel 21-11-2009, 22:06 It's a more in-depth version of the signing on date. They go through the computer at the jobs on their system, make suggestions on how to create/update CVs, ask what you've been doing to look for work etc, etc. Lasts around an hour, I think.
Is it for you?
Edit: Might have misunderstood the original question - if so, sorry! They change the names of these things so often, I can't keep up!

Gothic_Angel 21-11-2009, 22:30 Ah, I see! I did wonder if I'd misunderstood and it was an interview because you'd got a job because of those schemes where they pay you a bit extra for a year or something. I've never had one of those, I just got a job and posted the book back and promptly forgot all about them.
If you're not claiming, I'm not sure why you would be called in. Unless your partner is claiming, as he would be classed as claiming for you also, so you would both be expected to be looking for work. I think they changed the rules recently around one person being expected to seek a job while the other looked after the child/ren. So that could be the reason why you have been called in.
Just a guess, though, as I don't know your circumstances!

Gothic_Angel 21-11-2009, 22:41 Well if your partner is working FT, I don't think there's an obligation for you to attend, as you wouldn't be losing benefit by not doing so. But, as you say, you would like to work, so no harm in attending and seeing if they can help you.
Re the tax credits - they are atrocious at times. You could try checking on this site (www.entitledto.co.uk) to see if you should be eligible, and re-applying if so. I've heard a few horror stories of people being wrongly told they're not entitled and the tax credits people demanding money back, so it's worth finding out if they were wrong. Every little helps when you've got a little one to care for (Gawd, I've turned into an advert for Tesco  :hihi:)
Good luck, anyway :)

grafikhaus74 22-11-2009, 07:15 Shouldn't this thread be re-titled 'This is what's wrong with Britain' and moved to General Discussions?
Nope I havent got a job. Although, I really do want something - even part time in maccy D's would suit me. Stuck in the house all day everyday with my son isn't all its cracked up to be!!
Hopefully, they'll get me back into work. One can only hope. Then again, 'back into work' doesnt fit me either - I left school pregnant, and have only done volunteering work but hey.. I aint complaining! :hihi:
and then...
Woah! Thanks for the website - ive just put in estimates at the minute, dont have his wage slips/P60 etc to hand but from the estimates we could qualify for over £80 more a week, doesnt sound much but it'll pay our rent and council tax with about £1 leftover to play with :D They can only say no, so to hell with it all im applying again.
I am going to attend - even if I just get a CV built up for me its worth it. Maybe left school pregnant and worked in a charity shop wont go down too well but maccy D's like I say haha!
This from:
"Mummy to Charlie (21 Months) aka house wrecker!
My beautiful cats; Minnie (5yrs), Mickie (1yr) And my lovely rabbits Maisy (8 months) and Daisy (8months)!
And wanting to add more to our brood of animals :)"
Jee-sus.

grafikhaus74 22-11-2009, 09:15 I'd have thought it was pretty self-explanatory.
You've been put on this earth to build a nest and breed. Fine. Except that, is usual with people like you, someone else is expected to pick up the tab.
Then again, 'back into work' doesnt fit me either - I left school pregnant, and have only done volunteering work but hey.. I aint complaining! :hihi:
So why the half-arsed claims that 'you want a job, any job'?
And your smug 'I ain't complaining:hihi:' and
but from the estimates we could qualify for over £80 more a week, doesnt sound much but it'll pay our rent and council tax with about £1 leftover to play with :D
Won't go down very well with many on here.
What, exactly do you expect 'them' to put on your CV? Job: A bit of time in a charity shop. Nothing else.
Hobbies: Breeding and expecting my lifestyle to be paid for by everybody else.

grafikhaus74 22-11-2009, 10:33 You need to come down a peg or two and step into the real world.
Now on that we can agree.
Trouble is, I've worked for decades, since I was 17 in fact and your 'real world' is increasingly populated by people who think they can put a few days work in a lifetime and claim for taxes you simply haven't paid in.

missflirtuk 22-11-2009, 10:50 Right first off all Mr Troll get back under your bridge. Gina is a god damn good mother and her boyfriend is great. Who else would have stuck by their pregnant teenage girlfriend and got a job to support her AND the child? Not many. I envy her so much because her boyfriend goes out to work and actually comes home and helps with the child when he gets in from a long days work. She doesn't claim benefits so shut your mouth and start having a go at the lazy chavvy muvvas with their bottle of white lightning under the pram while their kid sits there munching on a chocolate bar calling it dinner? :loopy:. So why don't you get lost and go and bug someone else. Gina came on here for help and advice not to be laid into by some idiot just because she doesn't claim benefits :loopy:. Grow up little boy  over..
