Hello

I have a Spanish student with me and I need to explain to her how to get from my house to the College on Psalter Lane.

Now, she can get the 52 into town, that's no problem. But I have no idea which bus is best for her to get from town to college or where it goes from.

Can anyone help please (I tried calling the travel number but the office is closed, and don't know enough to find out what I need from the SYPTE website)

the 3 and 4 go on psalter lane, from town to millhouses.they could also get a bus to Banner cross up Ecclesall Rd and just walk around the corner to Psalter lane.I think the bus numbers that go there are the 50, and maybe 82/84.I can't quite remember, it's a while since I lived around there.

The bus stop is just before the Psalter Lane campus. 3 or 4 is simpler than going to Banner Cross. It leaves from the bus station Platform D2 every 30 minutes at about 7 and 37 past the hour. By the Moor it is usually about 10/15 past the hour and 40/45 minutes to the hour. After 6.15pm it is an hourly service. I havent heard many good words said about it from most regular users.

or you could get the 30 bus and get off at banner cross or the 74 and gett off and walk up.

Tiniest little bar you ever saw :)

Regarding getting to the college (and because the 80 buses are more frequent) - get the 80/1/2/3/4 and be sure to get off at The Banner Cross Hotel. at the side of The Banner Cross, there is a gennel. Go up that, turn left at the top and the college is staring you in the face (on the right and side of the road) :)

Well my student is catching the 52 (from Woodhouse), getting off on West Street and walking down to the bottom of the Moor and getting either the 3 or 4 to Psalter Lane.

It's taking the poor lass 2hrs just about!

Now if I were to take her in the car, it would probably take 20-30 mins (depending on traffic).

So could someone tell me how on earth public transport can be a suitable alternative for using one's own car :loopy:

Think 3/4 is easier and simpler than going up to Banner Cross if your student doesnt know this area. It's also a sad fact that gone are the days when the 3/4 ran every 15 minutes from Millhouses to Firth Park and could claim to be a reliable bus service. Perhaps if there were fewer cars and more buses public transport might then be a more suitable alternative

Farookes sake. She got here from Spain, didn't she :loopy:
If she can't follow this:
.....get off at The Banner Cross Hotel. At the side of The Banner Cross, there is a gennel. Go up that, turn left at the top and the college is staring you in the face.........

As you say:

That's why I recommend the 80s to Banner Cross - they are every few minutes in the daytime.

Oh Draggletail! I wish I could be as hard-faced as you :hihi:

She's only 17, she speaks some (but not fluent) English and she's here to develop her English skills. To be honest, I think she's done brilliantly so far. I'm not sure i'd have done as well when I was 17 if I was in Spain and having to find my way around all on my own.

The instructions/directions I gave her were what I thought would be the easiest for her given she doesn't know her way around Sheffield at all. Now she's had a couple of days to get her bearings, I will suggest other bus routes (thank you for your info btw)

Anyway, I thought I might bring her along to the meet on Sunday so she can practice speaking English with some of the forummers, you popping in Draggletail?

I quite agree with Hels which is the reason I thought the 3/4 was the best option because it can be very confusing and frightening to be in a strange country with little or no knowledge of the language. I can still remember what it was like to find myself in Koln station at that age with very little German, no-one to meet me at the station and the family I was going to lived at least a good hour away in the middle of nowheere. It wasnt much fun waiting around for them to turn up. I didnt understand their phone system and when I finally found someone to explain things to me in English I was totally distressed because there were lots of really seedy looking men wandering around being extremely unnice.

I said the 30 went there from here

You catch it on Market street and it goes past hunter's bar to knowle lane. Only takes about 45 mins :suspect:

its best to get the 3 or the 4 from the bus station. it stops right outside the campus on Psalter lane. Leaves normally at 10 past and 20 to the hour
