If you look at Googles newish maps page

http://www.google.co.uk/maps

you'll see Sheffield standing proudly as the norths premier city - no Leeds, Manchester etc in sight.

Confirmed my belief that Google is by far and away the best search engine!

No Manchester perhaps but Leeds is clear enough even with my eyesight ;)

No Leicester or Nottinham either, but Burton-upon-Trent must be a pretty important place !!

That's odd - no Leeds or Burton - on - Trent on mine - though I'd say Burton is a very important place being the home of Bass and Marstons.

he's looking at the one i'm looking at... i see sheffield, leeds and burton.

i'm guessing it attempts to locate where you are and show an appropriate map. clever.

That is pretty clever then if it does that.

And don't forget Marmite.
Bass is Coors now though.

Can't understand why it would be showing me a different map to you - I live S6 as well. And Greybeard ain't that far away in Bradfield.

Hmmm... interesting in a googlewacky sort of way.

Might be how zoomed in you are Leeds on the 100 mile scale map on mine but not the 200 mile.

Just Sheffield and prob York closest on the 200 mile one.

Yep, that's it - just remember to set the map to 200 miles folks, and you too can obliterate Leeds!

it wont be localising you to that extent. for some people their IP address will give away their location (mine does), for others it wont. so it will depend on their ISP. and whether they are using a proxy.
