View Full Version : Policeman dies on duty! Internetowl 14-12-2003, 18:32 yesterday whilst dealing with football hooligans at the Barnsley v Sheff Wed game. No more details, but it seems it was natural causes. MARTINO 1 14-12-2003, 19:03 Have heard on news it was a heart attack my heart goes out to his wife and children cannot be a worse time for someone to die what with christmas just around the corner so sad. james spader 15-12-2003, 09:58 Its very upsetting to hear about the policeman. They do a fantastic job yet get little thanks. My condolences to his family. spoonz 15-12-2003, 10:26 :loopy: :loopy: :loopy: :loopy: fnkysknky 15-12-2003, 10:46 why is it upsetting - did you know him personally? unlucky but **** happens Martin_s 15-12-2003, 11:02 At the risk of starting a flame here... Someone died... irrespective of affiliations, opinions or otherwise.. it's not something to start an arguement over.. Have a little respect eh? :( fnkysknky 15-12-2003, 11:17 I'm not trying to start anything it just strikes me as absurd when people react like they knew the person or something - if I greaved for everyone who ever died I'd never get anything done. Someone has died, for their family & friends yes it will be very upsetting - to the rest of us it means nothing, why people pretend it does is beyond me. Martin_s 15-12-2003, 11:22 Ok, well perhaps it's worth starting a seperate thread to discuss that aspect of things.. Right now it comes across as disrespect for someone who died.. fnkysknky 15-12-2003, 11:27 It's not disrespect at all. When I die I wouldn't expect or want for that matter people who didn't know me to comment on how sad my death was etc. I didn't know the man and I'm not acting like I did unlike some people. Anyway I'll be quiet now in case I upset any more of you ;) james spader 15-12-2003, 16:32 How disrespectful you have been Fnkysknky. The Police risk their lives everyday for complete stranges. Its terible when an offices while carrying out theire dutys. This country has got the best police in the world and always will. You should be ashamed of yourself Fnkyskny. fnkysknky 15-12-2003, 16:59 Hold on a minute the guy died of natural causes - what the hell has him being a copper got to do with it? I haven't even mentioned the police in this thread up to this point. He just happened to be working when he died which is unfortunate but happens. I didn't know the guy, why would I be upset? P.S. I think the 'r' key on your keyboard is knackered ;) Jamie 15-12-2003, 16:59 I don't think he should be ashamed at all. A *LOT* of people die every day all over the world ... should we also be smypathising with their families too? Of course ... that doens't mean to say it's good to go around disrespecting people who have just passed away ... or upsetting their families. But how is the death of this person (who you don't know) at all special or any different to the many other people who die every day world wide ? Easy to say 'oooh how terrible' ... but when you have no personal connection with that person ... how can you have even an ounce of grief ? Having respect and sensetivity for the feelings of other people who are grieving for loved ones ... now there's a thing. I can see this thread getting quite heated now ... so that's all I will say on this ... Life is for the living ... that's my opinion. fnkysknky 15-12-2003, 17:13 That's my point exactly Jamie - sure the family and friends will be devastated like I would be if I knew him but I don't and I'm not. When people who didn't know him say they are sorry etc. it's just fake - how can you possibly feel grief for someone you don't know? jayjay03 15-12-2003, 18:30 It's a little ironic but a bloke on row in front of me at the Owls - Barnsley game on Saturday also had a heart attack during the first half (seriously). I have to give credit to St John's ambulance and the on duty paramedics as they got to him very quick and got him out of the ground with minimum fuss. Although it may have been a lot harder had it have been further back in the stand. |
