View Full Version : Search for Dianne Quixall
0ctopussy009 19-11-2009, 17:36 Im trying to trace Dianne Quixall from Sheffield .As far as I know she was from Alexandra Road .Her father was Fred Quixall .She was born in 1946 and trained as a nurse in London .Last contact in 1969.Anybody have any news ???
A very quick search shows a Dianna Quixall born in 1946 - I can find no marriage or death.
I have also searched the Nursing Registers and can find no one of that name although she is likely to be retired by now ?
May she have emigrated.

0ctopussy009 19-11-2009, 18:07 Thanks Daven .She lived in London.Possibly retired by now ,but could have emigrated ,married or even could be departed from us .I tried calling every Quixall family in Sheffield but came up empty .I got her birth certificate(born 18/9/1946 ).
She trained in Whipps Cross Hospital London ,but they have no records going back that far .
Thank you .Joe

She was my OH's best friend at Grange from 58 to 64.
She was in the same year as Elizabeth Rorison, Linda Cooley, Christine Charlsworth, Laura Herrett and Margaret Bower.
OH thinks Dianne went to Australia to do nursing, and married a Danish bricklayer called Carsten.
0ctopussy009 21-11-2009, 12:50 Thanks so much for the prompt reply .At least now we have an idea where she went to .We were trying to trace her for a long time .Maybe some of her relations may have an Australian address for her ?
Many thanks .
HK Escape 21-01-2010, 19:57 Hi - just found this - I'm looking for Fred Quixall - so hoping if you find Dianne she might be able to confirm whether her father was the Fred Quixall who took part in the MTB escape from Hong Kong in 1941?
He would have been the stoker on one of the Motor Torpedo Boats but I know nothing more about him...
0ctopussy009 22-01-2010, 17:49 Hello HK Escape .As far as I could find out Fred Quixall died in Blackpool some years ago .I havent had any luck with Dianne .Some people think she emigrated to Australia and married a Norwegian man .I didnt have any contact with her since 1969 .Who knows we may get lucky yet .??
HK Escape 22-01-2010, 19:29 Fingers crossed!
There were 68 men on this WW2 escape (my Pop was one) and we've tracked down descendants of 27 - still hoping we'll find one of them still alive! - but I know if Dianne's father is 'our' Fred he is dead, and would have been one of the older men of the escape.
Let's hope you hear from her one of these days!
0ctopussy009 23-01-2010, 11:38 Ive being trying for the past few years and contacted all knowm Quixalls in Sheffield area ,but drew a blank .I met Dianne in London ,but never got her home address .We actually met again in Dublin in 1969 and parted without exchanging addresses .I got a lead on some of her school chums ,but again a blank .I dont know if she has brothers or sisters .Why not get on to Sheffield Radio or some of the local papers ,as your story is one of human interest ?Im sure that some enterprising reporter would love to follow up on it . Joe
Another quick search reveals she was the daughter of Fred and Kathleen Quixall (nee Watson).

0ctopussy009 02-02-2010, 19:08 Hi again Daven. Is there any way to find out if Fred and Kathleen Quixall had other children besides Dianne .If she has a brother I might be able to get a lead from that .Joe
pattricia 02-02-2010, 19:17 Wasnt there a famous footballer called Albert Quixall ?
hillsbro 02-02-2010, 19:25 Wasnt there a famous footballer called Albert Quixall ?Yes - a Southey Green man, he was one of Wednesday's star players in the 1950s. He joined Manchester United in 1958 when Matt Busby was rebuilding his team team after Munich, but he never quite achieved as much for Man U as he had for Wednesday. After retiring from football he became a scrap metal dealer and still lives in Manchester, now aged 76. See here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Quixall) for more details.

hillsbro 27-05-2010, 11:45 Octopussy009 somehow cannot log-in to the Forum so he asked me to thank everyone for their help. The Sheffield Telegraph came to his aid and published a letter, as a result of which he has located Dianne Quixall - she is alive and well and living in Perth, Australia.
