Yes. Mine is shocking. I was thinking of giving them a call to complain, but I'm not sure that I can face the call centre.

My OH used to work for the Sky technical department... I will ask him if this is common when he gets home as there may be something simple you can do...

The older boxes seem to struggle a bit with the new guide, unfortunately, not much you can do except ask for a replacement box, but the chances are the replacement box will be just as old as your current box...

edit: Actually, if you got it a week ago, your box shouldn't be that old - I'd give Sky a ring, they might be able to go through a few things with you.

I had mine upgraded on Monday, and I lost everything. All the channels just said no satellite signal received.

Phoned the call centre up last night and within 15 minutes everything was working. Apparently down to a known fault with the software upgrade that can also slow it down.

They tell you how to go into a secret menu to do a reboot. Was pretty painless and the service was really good.

He said to call the technical department, they can check things there for you and talk you through all the set ups... pretty quick! He does it on ours sometimes and its amazing to see and these menus I didnt know existed!!

If you have a Thomson HD box (the manufacturer is on the back) then there is a common fault which seems highlighted by the new EPG software. The capacitors in the power supply are very low quality and more often than not they start to leak. This results in picture break up, failed recordings, no satellite signal messages and sometimes sluggish performance.

You can have them replaced fairly cheaply, but not by sky. I did this and so far it seems to have cured the problems I was having. Sky should really rectify the problem themselves but getting them to do anything is impossible.

You can sometimes get an improvement by doing the following.

Press one after another - Services - 0 - 0 - 1 - Select, then choose option 7 "Planner Rebuild".

It is a bit like a defragmentation on a PC and can speed things up. You shouldn't loose any recordings.

My partner got a call from Sky the other day saying that the warranty is about to expire on our Sky+HD box as we've had it about a year. They explained what it was and how much, but then before even asking her if we wanted to extend the warranty, proceeded to ask for credit card details!

The extended warranties are a waste of money. If the box breaks I'll tell them I'll cancel and move to Virgin Media, I'm sure they'll find us a new box free of charge.
