There is also a book by Paul License (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sheffield-Blitz-Words-Pictures-Memories/dp/0953975002/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258478389&sr=1-2) and one by Alistair Lofthouse (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Then-Sheffield-Blitz-Operation-Crucible/dp/1901587096/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258478389&sr=1-1). Sure is. The Marples closed as a pub about 2002 and stood empty for some time.

One stick of bombsfell on and around St Philips church, and scored a direct hit on my fathers 18 month old Morris 8 which was parked at the bottom of Henry St. The engine (peppered with shrapnel) ended up in someone's outside toilet and a mudguard wrapped itself round a chimney stack. Of course, the church was a write-off.
In Lower Walkley, (mostly demolished in 1971), I remember there were the odd gaps in the houses where bombs had fallen. I think a parachute bomb landed in Whitehouse lane.

Look on an older thread, How Many Bombs Dropped On Sheffield. There's lots of stuff on there and some maps showing where the bombs fell.
wallytof 19-11-2009, 22:17 Hi,
When I was 5 I lived in Fowler Place, this was off Fowler Street in Pitsmoor, on the night of the blitze, our house had a direct hit and we were trapped in the cellar, later I was evacuated to Wales. I hope this info helps you.
