I live in Halway and I'm having a problem with wierd Flies in my back garden.

They come out around 11am, when the fly their tails curl round and then alot of them join togethr by their tails (I presume to mate)

Cant undersatnd it and dont know what they are.

Does anyone else have this problem at the moment and can anyone clear up what they are and if anyone know how to get rid.

Just for the record I'm not a scrubber with a burnt out Ford escort and a huge pile of rubbish rotting in the back garden.

Someone HELP :)

Damselflies perhaps? Like these ...

If it's them, they're harmless and a bit of a treat to see IMO.

Not them, they are a bit too exotic. They just look like black small flies but the tails curl then they fly and they also join tails and fly together.

Make my bloody skin creap!!!! and they are tres anoyin

Thanks for your suggestion Captain swing

Hmm ... rove (staphylinid) beetles maybe? They look a bit like flies and have a habit of curling their tails round. Again nowt to worry about as far as I know.

I know there are people on the forum who know lots about insects, with luck one of them will look in on this thread ...
