View Full Version : Young black cat, owner found!

There has been a young black cat with no collar hanging around for the past few weeks. I thought it belonged to someone on my road, but today someone from the top of my road knocked on my door. They had heard I fostered cats and wondered if this one was one of mine, or if I'd be able to take it in.

She has apparently been feeding it for quite some time, but isn't able to keep it as it is petrified of her dog. She says she's noticed that it's stomach is quite fat but the rest of it is really thin, so is wondering if it is a pregnant queen. It could be that it just has a fat tummy though as we aren't even sure it is female.

Unfortunately I'm full with Thomas the "broken" cat staying in my only spare room. Even if I had room, it won't actually let me approach it at all as it is very nervous. And obviously it may actually have a home but just prefers to wander the streets.

So is anyone missing a young black cat from the Cookson Road area? He/ she is a lovely looking thing and I hope she has somewhere she calls home :)

Hi all. Further to the above, I've now had the black cat brought to me by the people at the top of the road who have been feeding her. She is definitely a girl, and I'm not sure if she is pregnant, but her tummy is hard and a little bit round. She certainly isn't heavily pregnant.

Due to the cat I already have here plus my three who won't tolerate intruders in their space, I really have nowhere to put her and just can't keep her inside. She's eaten like a horse since she got here with that urgency that strays have when they think they may not get another meal very soon. She is super friendly to humans, not so to other cats.

She doesn't seem to belong to anyone as she has definitely been living rough for the last few weeks.

Is there anyone who would be able to look after her until we can find who she belongs to or find her another home?

Thanks Sez, I would bring her to you, I wouldn't expect you to come here.

She's snoring loudly on my sofa at the minute. I think she's decided that the more cute she can be the less likely it is that she'll have to go. :(

I hope someone else can help as she would have to tollerate other cats here too as #I have 2 fosters plus my own. Saz is there no way you could take her for a night? I could try and sort something tomorrow after work then?

edit to add - just read that this little one doesnt like dogs either so mine may not be the best place as I have two

If it's awkward for you don't worry. I'll try keeping her in my front room for tonight. I have to take the foster cat to the vet tomorrow so I'll take her with me and see if the vet will scan her for a chip.

If she doesn't have one and we can't find who she belongs to, then I really am going to have to find somewhere for her - my house is tiny and I really can't keep her in the front room indefinitely.

Is it okay if I contact you tomorrow Sezbetz?

Edit - just seen your edit. No worries, I'll have a rethink.

I know she is scared of my neighbour's dog, but I'm not sure what kind of dog it is - they live quite a way from me and I don't really know them.

If it comes to it I'd be happy to bring her to either of you to see if she is okay and bring her back if she isn't. I just don't want her to end up out on the street if there is another choice.

Joey
15-11-2009, 19:44
Lol! I know, I'm the same. I'd keep them all if I could.

If she doesn't have a chip, and one of you is good enough to take her, I would obviously do all I can to find her a home. I wouldn't just leave you to it. I have some food here that I'll bring with her and would be happy to keep supplying it if necessary. I've taken the problem on and won't just pass the buck to someone else.

Joey
15-11-2009, 19:51
yes, she's here in my front room with me. I'm just a tiny bit concerned as i have the foster cat scratching at one door to get to her and my cats scratching at the other door. She's really calm and happy though, so we'll be fine as long as they don't all keep me up all night meowing at each other

I'd try and talk your bro-in-law into having her for the night for you, but we have no doors at the moment, so she would just be walking from room to room!!

She is a very cute cat by the way! I had a little cuddle with her earlier!!

Just a bit of an update - I took the cat to the vet with me this morning and they were kind enough to check for a chip and give her a quick look over. She doesn't have a chip unfortunately, but he doesn't think she is pregnant. He couldn't listen to her heart as she was purring so loudly!!

The RSPCA have agreed to put her on their waiting list for a space in the shelter and will take responsibility for her, and I'm hoping we will have her sorted with a temporary home by tonight. Thanks ladies at the RSPCA shelter if you are reading

Mummy & Sez, I'll pm you shortly. Thanks :)

Here's a pic of her this morning - Sleepy head (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg90/JoeyGrey_photos/049.jpg)

Yay!! Thank goodness - I was driving away waiting for my phone to ring - I was sure she would have a total hissy fit when she met the dogs.

Chloe suits her really well - she's a dainty little lady.

Thank you so much for looking after her, it's a weight off my mind, and I can actually move from room to room again!

Things haven't worked out too well for Chloe. Unfortunately she is a little rough and Mummysaz and myself feel she would be better somewhere without children, just for safety's sake.

Sezbetz, I was going to ask if you could try with her, but from your pm I see you have a child as well, so maybe it wouldn't be a good idea.

Is there anyone else that would be willing to take her on just for a week or so till the RSPCA have a space for her? We've discovered today that she is fine with Mummysaz's kitten and two big dogs. I'll provide the food and the RSCPA will sort the vacs and rehoming out.

Please help!!!

ahh what a shame - we have had lucy the killer cat here who has done really well and now tollerates dogs cats and my 4 kids but Im not sure it would be fair on my kids to bring in another tempramental cat to the house - they have been sooo good with lucy! However if things get really tough and there really is nowhere else she is welcome here - my kids are used to a scratch or two - but it really does sound like she would be better off somewhere a little calmer and quieter than my mad house!!!

Cats can sometimes take a while to get used to kids - It has taken Lucy almost 4 months!!!

thanks Seadog - I just looked through his/her post quickly and it looks as though she has the cat back she was looking for. I'm in a bit of a quandry at the moment as I've had to put her in my kitchen while Thomas is in the front room. Now my cats are getting upset, with Fudge having a bit of an accident on the stairs last night. They are used to having other cats around but not used to being shut out of so many rooms. I feel like I'm living in a prison as I can't get from room to room without planning for escapees.

Chloe is crying and crying to go out, and I'm really tempted to let her go. I'm hoping she will come back when she gets hungry. It just seems such a shame that I have her here safe and there is nowhere to keep her.

Even if its generally good with cats though, wouldn't be such a good idea to introduce them both to a new home at once would it? Or am I just being over precautious? lol

Joey I feel terrible now that you are having such trouble. I know the feeling though - we are a small house with lots of cats coming in and out aswell as our other animals. If she came here she would have to tollerate both cats and dogs and kids... would she cope? Also I cannot do anything tonight (wont be in) but could collect her tomorrow - would you manage till then??

PM me if you need mex

Hi Sez, please don't feel bad, I get myself into these pickles

I let her go out today as I just couldn't deal with the upset the other cats were getting themselves into - who'd have thought that one cat could cause all this trouble! I've spent the rest of the day worrying about her - and she's just this minute come back! That means that hopefully I can just keep her in over each night if necessary until the RSPCA find her a space. I just hope it isn't too long as I'm back to work next week so won't be able to spend all this time messing about with her.

Obviously it would be much easier if I could find her a proper foster home, but I know you have a full house already so it would be just as difficult for you as it is for me. So if anyone else out there is reading this and can lend a helping hand it would be really appreciated.

Great news - took Chloe to the RSPCA this morning to get a vaccination and they had a look through lost and found. Long and short of it is they found her owners!!! They only live a few streets away from me and haven't seen her since September.

Her actual name is Misty and it sounds as though she is going to be thoroughly spoiled for a long while. They had her microchipped before they left and apparently tears were shed as they had given up on seeing her again.

I'm so relieved and it's great to have a happy ending!
