Looks like he's saying sometimes stick with what you have cos you are not going to improve just by sacking your manager.

He talks quite a bit of sense ,At the Lane you hear the young un's screaming get rid of him ,spend money on this that and whoever,when we got promoted under basset ,It was a blessing really getting relegated ,fighting for our lifes every game with little money its worse now. Its not an even playing field anymore especially the premier league

It works both ways,
Maybe some players of limited ability should be a bit more realistic about their wage demands.

Too true, him and Hirsty were a really menacing partnership, i thought Williams was a very good finisher aswell, a bit Defoe like almost.

Williams was the better partner for Hirsty. They really complimented each other, and had a great understanding.
Trouble was, he couldn't last 90 minutes, especially in those days when referees offered less protection.
I remember a game against Liverpool when two MArk Wright tackles went straight through him as well as the ball, and he was off before half time.

I think it is true that fans need to be more realistic, however I think more United fans are guilty of this at the moment than Wednesday fans. I think Wednesday have been a poor Championship side for long enough to now feel happy with being a mid-table team. Some United fans fail to see that we don't have a very good side, maybe playoffs at best, and that with the form we are in we could soon be in danger of playing League One football soon. I've heard fellow blades saying we are too good to be relegated and it wouldn't happen, but I'm sure lots of Newcastle fans were saying the same last season, and i'm sure Charlton fans thought the same, as did Leeds fans a few years ago.

More like relegation if they carry on like that, however if they play like they did against Newcastle then it'll be playoffs. Just a shame we never know which team will turn up.

I have few qualms about his first three seasons, however his actions during his fourth perplexed me somewhat, but we still came 13th. Atkinson was a fool not to realise that he had found his ideal club, Richards was a fool to sack him on his second tenure after he had saved our season.

All water under the bridge now flower (await daft post about the flood), we commited footballs verion of Hari Kari. Danny Wilson did more damage to SWFC than rust has done to the Titanic, at least Pleat had one good season, Wilson was a complete disaster.

Agree with you about Francis not being very good at man management, I knew a lot of footballers down there at the time and they said his wife was on the phone to him all the time during training sessions giving him grief. Also he bought one of the best prospects of the time and destroyed his career, "Jemson", just because he didn't like him. When Atkinson was there he had a great carry on with the lads and got stuck in during training.
Must dissagree with you on one thing, you were never a TOP premiership club, with the players you had at the time you came close but never quite got there.

Yes, we should have kept Atkinson ...... full stop.
If we ever had the slightest chance of winning the Prem, then he, and the nucleus of that team, and the money available at that time, was the time.
We'll never know.

remember the 74/75 season just missed out on finishing in a european place so we were one of the top clubs in the country. and 71/72 season topped the top league for a month so at that time we were the top team in the country. not one of em the top one that was'nt a dream. have that rammed down yer throat. so there.

No he's not. David Pleat stripped the good team...but fair to him he did sign some quality as well. It was Wilson who majorly messed up with his over paid pile of crap..such as De Bilde. We would never have been relegated if Richards the idiot, hadn't sacked Big Ron.

Very good article indeed and very true! I was one of the people shouting for Francis's head, i remember going down and watching us get stuffed 7-1 at home to Forest...We were bad that day, but 100 times better than what we are now! As for being the biggest club in Sheffield, i think 'outsiders' or other fans look at clubs and see their history, pedigree etc and unfortunately in the past 35 years or so United have only spent 5 seasons in the top division, that is the way people probably look at it, unlike the present time where United are the biggest club because we have 17 points and they have 18! :roll:
