CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 16:46 Good article to be fair, i don't think he means anything derogatory towards the wednesday fan's, i think he's merely pointing out that one minute you can be on top of the world and the next your well stuffed. ukdobby 11-11-2009, 17:37 www.metro.co.uk/spot/football/article.html?football_fans_must_be_more_realistic&in_article_id=765596&in_page_ic . From one of your own. Looks like he's saying sometimes stick with what you have cos you are not going to improve just by sacking your manager. swervin 11-11-2009, 17:39 He talks quite a bit of sense ,At the Lane you hear the young un's screaming get rid of him ,spend money on this that and whoever, when we got promoted under basset ,It was a blessing really getting relegated ,fighting for our lifes every game with little money its worse now. Its not an even playing field anymore especially the premier league CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 17:41 He talks quite a bit of sense ,At the Lane you hear the young un's screaming get rid of him ,spend money on this that and whoever, when we got promoted under basset ,It was a blessing really getting relegated ,fighting for our lifes every game with little money its worse now. Its not an even playing field anymore especially the premier league I agree mate, when the likes of Wigan can outmuscle you financially then it's time to worry. It was only a few years ago people used to know them as a rugby town. Grandad.Malky 11-11-2009, 18:03 The article started of well “Sheffield Wednesday fans also had delusions of grandeur” then it went down hill, “the biggest club in Sheffield” CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 18:06 I can't believe it took a blade so long to mention that point lol ukdobby 11-11-2009, 18:06 Well he got 1/2 right:D CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 18:11 There were quite a few spelling mistakes in that article in all fairness lol. alex3659 11-11-2009, 18:22 Well he got 1/2 right:D He certainly did. ukdobby 11-11-2009, 19:08 He certainly did. Exactly, can't lose on that one,red or blue. kieroni 11-11-2009, 20:03 I totally agree with brighty good honest fair points of view.Oh and what a lovly header he scored against united in the semi that made mr cork shave his beard off! Top man brighty!! CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 20:05 Yep Mark Bright to me anyway is a Wednesday legend, and not just for that goal he was a good player and goalscorer in his heyday told Brighty. kieroni 11-11-2009, 20:10 Dya remember Danny williams he was a tidy player? kieroni 11-11-2009, 20:12 Infact i loved Marc Degryse and i think he was only there a season he was a top player. CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 20:12 Dya remember Danny williams he was a tidy player? I remember Paul Williams if that's who your on about m8. Another top striker for Wednesday. CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 20:14 Infact i loved Marc Degryse and i think he was only there a season he was a top player. My favorite player from those day's was Des Walker, i even had his name and 17 on the back of my shirt lol. kieroni 11-11-2009, 20:18 Thats the one paul williams danny williams is the boxer he was a good young player wonder where he went to? ukdobby 11-11-2009, 20:48 Thats the one paul williams danny williams is the boxer he was a good young player wonder where he went to? Under rated, great sidekick for Hirsty. CorkerSWFC 11-11-2009, 20:55 Under rated, great sidekick for Hirsty. Too true, him and Hirsty were a really menacing partnership, i thought Williams was a very good finisher aswell, a bit Defoe like almost. mack69 11-11-2009, 21:45 www.metroig.co.uk/spot/football/article.html?football_fans_must_be_more_realistic&in_article_id=765596&in_page_ic MISS SPELLED GRANDEUR. From one of your own. It works both ways, Maybe some players of limited ability should be a bit more realistic about their wage demands. geocol 12-11-2009, 11:30 Too true, him and Hirsty were a really menacing partnership, i thought Williams was a very good finisher aswell, a bit Defoe like almost. Williams was the better partner for Hirsty. They really complimented each other, and had a great understanding. Trouble was, he couldn't last 90 minutes, especially in those days when referees offered less protection. I remember a game against Liverpool when two MArk Wright tackles went straight through him as well as the ball, and he was off before half time. Snook 12-11-2009, 11:38 I think it is true that fans need to be more realistic, however I think more United fans are guilty of this at the moment than Wednesday fans. I think Wednesday have been a poor Championship side for long enough to now feel happy with being a mid-table team. Some United fans fail to see that we don't have a very good side, maybe playoffs at best, and that with the form we are in we could soon be in danger of playing League One football soon. I've heard fellow blades saying we are too good to be relegated and it wouldn't happen, but I'm sure lots of Newcastle fans were saying the same last season, and i'm sure Charlton fans thought the same, as did Leeds fans a few years ago. Just a shame we never know which team will turn up. Tipex 13-11-2009, 08:46 Infact i loved Marc Degryse and i think he was only there a season he was a top player. What Brighty didn't say was that Francis failed to match Atkinsons feel good factor at Hillsborough. Francis had some great players at Hillsborough, and couldn't manage 'em, he mismanaged players at his previous clubs as well. We didn't have aspirations of being a top Premiership club, WE WERE ONE. Something United, Barnsley, Donny and Rotherham can only dream of. So there! CorkerSWFC 13-11-2009, 15:05 The side Francis had was took apart too early, there was a couple more years left in that squad, everything went pear shaped after that. crookesey 13-11-2009, 15:06 That's the way, look for the slightest mistake, and ram it down the posters throat. Something United, Barnsley, Donny and Rotherham can only dream of. So there! I have few qualms about his first three seasons, however his actions during his fourth perplexed me somewhat, but we still came 13th. Atkinson was a fool not to realise that he had found his ideal club, Richards was a fool to sack him on his second tenure after he had saved our season. All water under the bridge now flower (await daft post about the flood), we commited footballs verion of Hari Kari. Danny Wilson did more damage to SWFC than rust has done to the Titanic, at least Pleat had one good season, Wilson was a complete disaster. alex3659 13-11-2009, 15:07 That's the way, look for the slightest mistake, and ram it down the posters throat. Agree with you about Francis not being very good at man management, I knew a lot of footballers down there at the time and they said his wife was on the phone to him all the time during training sessions giving him grief. Also he bought one of the best prospects of the time and destroyed his career, "Jemson", just because he didn't like him. When Atkinson was there he had a great carry on with the lads and got stuck in during training. Must dissagree with you on one thing, you were never a TOP premiership club, with the players you had at the time you came close but never quite got there. Earwiggo 13-11-2009, 15:10 Yes, we should have kept Atkinson ...... full stop. If we ever had the slightest chance of winning the Prem, then he, and the nucleus of that team, and the money available at that time, was the time. We'll never know. I'm fed up Alice, no work, no money, no future, but thanks for asking. Good post from you that kid, apart from the name change, not one dig. You must have found that difficult. I'd call 3rd in the Premiership a TOP club, although we didn't finish TOP. We were TOP once during the season, so at that time, we were THE top club in the Prem, not one of 'em ..... THE top one. alex3659 13-11-2009, 15:23 I'm fed up Alice, no work, no money, no future, but thanks for asking. Good post from you that kid, apart from the name change, not one dig. It was Wilson who majorly messed up with his over paid pile of crap..such as De Bilde. We would never have been relegated if Richards the idiot, hadn't sacked Big Ron. Billy Casper 15-11-2009, 17:09 Very good article indeed and very true! I was one of the people shouting for Francis's head, i remember going down and watching us get stuffed 7-1 at home to Forest...We were bad that day, but 100 times better than what we are now! As for being the biggest club in Sheffield, i think 'outsiders' or other fans look at clubs and see their history, pedigree etc and unfortunately in the past 35 years or so United have only spent 5 seasons in the top division, that is the way people probably look at it, unlike the present time where United are the biggest club because we have 17 points and they have 18! |
