View Full Version : Getting married in a field?
claiireee 08-11-2009, 16:11 I really like the idea of getting some big teepees and getting married in a field?. Failing that, getting married somewhere then having the reception/evening do in the teepee. I just wondered if anyone had done this and could offer any advice, or does anyone know of any nice places to pitch some tents!?
Thanks, Claire x
you can't actually get married in a field/tent unless you get married in Scotland, as venues in England must be licenced to hold weddings. You can get married anywhere you like in Scotland - weather permitting :P
Now the teepee thing... you've got me wondering!
claiireee 08-11-2009, 16:23 Ah, but we could get married indoors somewhere then have a big party in a tent somewhere after? The teepees look amazing.
That's viable, yep. Do you have a link for these teepees that you could share?
claiireee 08-11-2009, 16:30 I just saw them on someone's wedding pictures, I'd imagine a search on google would bring them up.
I've googled them, and found 3 companies that do them - all in the south west of the country though, and they don't erect them outside of that area according to their websites

This is west yorkshire-my friends recently went to a wedding here. You can get married in a field here, and they have scandanvian tipi's. :)
claiireee 08-11-2009, 20:39 Wow that looks amazing, thank you for sharing the link :)

which seems to suggest that a building is the only venue that can be licenced
Classic Rock 09-11-2009, 09:50 Just be aware that if you use a generator for your power, most DJs with knowledge of generators will refuse to DJ there. If the power fluctuates or drops, it can quite easily damage the electronic equipment used. Surge protection won't help if the power drops. I've known this happen to someone who is a DJ and wouldn't risk it myself.
weddingdaze 11-11-2009, 10:56 http://www.papakata.co.uk/ try this company, we went along to their open day last month - stunning interior and exterior! You could always get married indoors and then have a blessing in the teepee! I know of a field too near Bradfield if you need it! :)
Moonbird 15-11-2009, 13:36 What a shame that you can only get married in a building what does it really matter?
My dream wedding (if I ever dared do it at all  ) would be a gathering in a pretty place in spring or summer, then a happy picnic there with family and friends, somewhere that kids can play, people be loud and just have a good time without pressures of a conventional wedding.
SweetBride20 15-11-2009, 14:32 I love the idea... i can just imagine a wedding on the field with white tents and white chiffon drapes with lovely columns (Roman style). :P It's too much , I know.

Not sure about Roman columns :hihi: but why not the rest? sometimes we needlessly complicate our lives with what convention dictates, when the simplest of things would be so much more enjoyable, meaningful and relaxing :D
I have been married (and divorced) before, proper church wedding and reception but it was so stressful and exhausting...never again, and it was all to easy to lose sight of what was important and what the day was about I think.
Not that I would decry anyone for wanting a big church wedding at all personal choice is everything and a couples big day should be everything that they want it to be so far as I'm concerned.
