View Full Version : Paid Parking in City Centre?
Up until now, I have always had the convenience of a car park at work, but after a recent change in job I now find myself working in the centre of town!
I would like to know where there is paid parking at a reasonable rate in Sheffield town center? Have been advised Coles car park is possibly the cheapest - anyone have any prices for all day parking in the area?
Also interested in NCP season ticket if anyone has any info as the NCP website is completely useless!
Thanks all ...
youwhatref 03-08-2005, 09:19 Not too sure on partking in the City Centre, someone informed me the on Blast Lane (i think) is the cheapest.
A good option is the Nunnery Square park & ride although this depends on where you are coming from. £3 a day, £12 a week or £40 a month, £100 quarter.
Thanks for the info ...
Coming from Frecheville way so yes, that would be an option ... was hoping for somewhere a little closer though (near to the Coles one) as I am lazy like that! ;)
NCP opposite Hallam Uni would be a good one for me (fairly secure too) but I have no idea on prices ...
Anyone use any of the NCP's ?

Yes, our place gets discount so not really much help for you there.
Unfortunately parking in town isn't cheap so I would suggest the park and rides :)
Not a lot ... no ;p
I've been advised Coles is £4 / day ... true or false ?

Yep, had a scout round on the web and came across that info thanks. Nothing on season ticket prices though - just a referral to the NCP site which is of no use.
Still wondering if John Lewis might be the best bet too at £4 a day (if it's correct).
Can anyone confirm?
lalaland 03-08-2005, 14:33 You can park for free if you ride a motorbike or scooter in any of the council's car parks.
Why not buy yourself a cheap scooter if not a biker, some very cheap ones about second hand, and park for free?
Insurance is very cheap on those buzzing things as well as tax (£15 per year) and as for petrol you can run them for a year on a thimble full :D
So it's cheap transport to and from work, no traffic problems (just filter, it's legal) and free parking.
Or you can get a real bike, but that may not be a cheap solution (but it's the best idea). I love going to work on my bike when the weather's nice, although changing from leathers in to office gear by the photocopier is a pain :hihi:
You could park in the little multi storey at the Hilton Hotel - it's £3 a day. Very safe and I have parked there for nearly 4 years now without a single problem.
Thanks, good suggestions ...
Not sure I would trust myself on a scooter / bike though - or should I say not sure I can trust the other drivers! Prefer to travel by car if at all possible - much safer :)
I used to park in the Hilton a while ago when it was £2.50 / day ... but then I worked in the area. Trekking up to Fargate / Barkers Pool from there wouldn't be much fun in a morning.
Still looking for anyone who uses John Lewis' carpark who can confirm prices. Any takers?
Cheers.

According to the lady on 0114 276 8511:
Up to 8 hours with discount (by buying something in store) £7.80.
arrrrrgh, sorry - confusion all round here. Just realsied you want ALL DAY so thats not much good to you.
Thanks for finding that out cg. But it's not what I wanted to hear!
So my options look like :
1) Park and ride / walk
2) Bus / Tram (which to me defeats the point in having a car)!
3) Pay NCP £407 / quarter for parking. £1200 / year seems crazy!
The joy of public transport - guess I have been spoiled!
MuteWitness 04-08-2005, 10:21 I agree with lalaland, when i worked at subway in town i had a little scooter, free parkings 2 mins away from where i worked which was great!
