View Full Version : Anyone like Frank Sinatra like me ?
pattricia 02-08-2005, 21:08 Im 67 now and have liked him from being about 17yrs of age.Hes terrific, what a voice.Still gives me the shivers to listen to him. Theres a programme on telly about him this week, something about his cold side(his temper & the Mafia I guess) and his warm side(his singing I guess) When I die I hope his voice will be the last one I hear.Unless of course someone playsthe Mommas and Poppas singing"California Dreaming" Which comes second best.
I quite like Frank Sinatra - I don't know whether you saw the biopic about him and the Rat Pack that starred Ray Liotta, but that was very good in terms of 'warts and all'.
My parents were late in having me so I guess that that coloured a lot of my early musical tastes - bought up on a diet of Radio 2.... :)
I enjoy Sinatra and the big band sound in general - as well as lots of other types of music!
He was also a better than expected actor!
Joe
What day is this programm on?
And erm, what channel
I am a Frank Sinatra fan
One of the fiirst records I bought was Songs for Swingiing Lovers.
I went to watch him in all his films. Joe's right he was a good actor.

His albums are good to relax and chill out too :)
Stick on a bit of Frank...
'I won't dance.. Don't ask me'
BoppinBruce 08-08-2005, 08:56 Best Sinatra track, in my opinion of course, is 'Summer Wind' one of the last compositions by the late Johnny Mercer.

I like Sinatra, though I don't listen to his music very often. I think he had a great, characterful voice and his phrasing was superb. I particularly like his versions of 'Girl from Ipanema', 'How Insensitive' and 'Witchcraft' from the collection, 'Old Blue Eyes is Back'.
According to the rumours, he was allegedly a Mafia 'soldier', drug addict, alchoholic, and rapist. I prefer my singers to have 'lived' a little more, like Will Young.
CaptainSwing 08-08-2005, 17:55 A pretty good actor - Manchurian Candidate, Man with the Golden Arm, even the Tony Rome films. Didn't really rate him as a singer, but won't invite opprobrium by explaining why ...

I'd like to dissagree with you if i knew what opprobrium meant
I watched the Sinatra programme it was great,I think Sinatra was a bit nieve to think nobody thought he was involved with the Mafia, even when I was a kid my Dad talked about him in the 60s regarding his involvment with the Mafia,it was a smashing documentary & I thouroughly enjoyed every minute of it .I liked it when Sinatra said that he came from a rough background & he was telling porky's but he would not be the first celebrity to do that.Love Sinatra he was a great entertainer.
Frankie was the freatest.
No all day recording with Frank, he walked in sang his numbers and walked out.
His timing was perfect and he never missed a word or a beat.
As far as his so called mafia connections, how can anyone brought up in Little Italy New York not know a lot of them?
I know one thing for certain people will still be listening to Ol Blue Eyes when the rest are forgotten.
As you can see, I'm a big fan.
Happy Days!
