I rarely print stuff except receipts and holiday tickets etc so i do not need colour as such.
My question is...I have just replaced the empty BLACK ink with new one and noticed that my other 3 colours are about 1/3rd full. Can I replace them with black ink so that i only get black type etc.....thanks.
It must be nearly a year since i replaced the black so it shows how much i use.
You could probably refill the colour cartridges with black ink if you really wanted to. There might be warranty and print quality issues though. Depending on the printer model I suspect it's unlikely you'd be able to insert new black cartridges in the colour slot(s).
A better approach might be to only send documents to the printer as black & white or greyscale (should be an option when you hit the Print button).

Thankyou very much, I will do the latter!!!

Modern printer cartridges are chipped so just swapping wouldn't work, as suggested, you could refil but you'd get a pretty murky multi-coloured print out, unless you flushed everything through first.
A more practicle method, apart from printing in grayscale, would be a buy one of the low cost mono laserjet printers available nowadays.
