We have our house up for sale and we have a problem. No matter how clean and tidy it is it still looks fairly cluttered as there are 6 of us living here, I have 3 beds in one room plus wardrobes so you can imagine how small this makes the room look. Does anyone have any idea on how I could make more space but by still keeping a bed etc for everyone (I already use bunk beds to save room) Any other tips on selling would be appreciated too.

Could you get one bed removed and use a futon or a camp bed for a temporary measure until you get your sold. Obviously remove the camp bed when you have viewings !
Could you also remove a wardrobe which means everyone having less clothing and only essentials for the time being but you'll have to pack the stuff away soonish...

Are your rooms painted bright colours (eg. lemon, white, pastels)? I've heard that dark colours can make a room look cramped. Perhaps you might want to try brightening it up or, for the purpose of staging the viewing, remove a bed when necessary.

Dear me! My partner really does subject me to watching too many property programmes. I'm starting to sound like Sarah Beeny....

not much u can do in the bedroom department unfortunately. u could reaarange storage so that a wardrobe could be removed - but that may not be practical .
pale colours open up a room, stick the ineveitable mirror on the wall to create the illusion of space.
most importantly shift everything that is not crucial. ie move out spare chairs, kids toys should beput away & up off the floor.
cut down on ornaments, cut flower arrangements & 14 types of cereal boxes on the windowsill. then when you have done that give yourself a day or 2 then do it again.

i'm not selling my house but i have gone through the process numerous times to get an uncluttered home.

Kick some of the tenants out and get rid of the beds...

Its your house you are selling right? If its not selling because of the situation, change the situation.

Thank you both for your replies. The room is fairly light in colour so I think its more of a question of too many beds etc. I think one way or another the bunkbeds are going to have to go and be replaced by a futon or something as suggested, it is just so difficult with there being 6 of us making a house that is too small for us look bigger!

Thanks again

Who are the 6?

Are they tenants or joint owners of the property...

I agree with Corleone..

Whoops! there were a few more replies in between my 1st and 2nd postings, so thanks to everyone. Can I just point out that I can't kick the tenents out as they are my kids and one is only 6, although the idea does appeal to me sometimes especially during the long holidays .

don't take this the wrong way but when people come to view try to "remove" as many offspring a spossible. send the to granny's or let somone tke them for stroll.
it just free's up a bit of space during viewing - this advice was previously given regarding dogs running around the house.

You could always use the fact that uve got 3 beds and storage in one room as an advantage?

'Look how much we can fit in this room' etc etc

Other than that, keep toys and clothes (on the floor and beds) to a minimum, mirrors reflect light so make spaces look larger and as other people have said, light colours are good.

Good luck.
