Hello everyone

For the past 2 or 3 days, my rabbits havent been drinking. Or so it seems! When ive gone out to change their water/hay etc theres hardly any gone. Ive changed their bottle, to a spare one I had incase it wasnt coming out but even so, theyre still not drinking.

Theres tiny bits going at a time and I think that this is just leaks! Ive tonight tried to hold the bottle myself with each rabbit in my arms, and squeezing it a little so drops are coming out but neither are interested?! Its not frozen up or anything, and its getting changed daily, as usual. So its my rabbits.. Not the actual waterbottle.

Theyre eating as normal, but Maisy feels abit thin. Bones sticking out a little, can feel her ribs perfectly. Theyre not pooping as much as usual either! Usually, when cleaning it out every morning theres slightly less than normal poos there. And usually, there shavings are wet ish but they havent been that wet lately. I think, this is because theyre not drinking water; therefore not peeing.

Im going to try and get them into the vets tomorrow and then see where that takes me. But just want abit of help/advice as to what anyone might think is up with them? Theyve both lost a considerable amount of weight over the last week or so aswell.

Any help? I just cannot think properly..

are your bunnies eating alot of fresh veg?
mind you it can'r hurt tom take them to a rabbit savvy vet! to check over.

I would see what the vet thinks to be honest rather than guessing if you can get some pure pineapple juice in a shringe and see if they will take that.

They do eat a considerable amount of veg, not as much fruit though - barely touching there apples. They are eating as normal really, just not drinking. ??

Are there any vets that are really good, S5/Shiregreen side of Sheffield? Im currently at Springfield and im not 100% if they are any good with bunnys :)

I'd definitely get them to the vets as sudden weight loss in a rabbit isn't a good sign Gina. Good luck,I hope they'll both be fine and back to their usual selves soon :)

springfield's are perfectly reliable with care of rabbits,

I'll call up the vets tomorrow and see what they say, ive been lucky previously with the vets as theyve always managed to get me in straight away. So, fingers crossed they get me in tomorrow. Im hoping its nothing too serious, I got all worked up over a dewlap a few months ago so this time im kind of just 'acting' calm.. But worrying inside!

Have you dealt with them before berlingo, with rabbits? What were they like? :)

are you sure thay are rabbit Savvy? its very important to know as some vets arn't .

Thing is teeny, I never had my rabbits registered with any vet, until the dewlap incident. They got booked into one and ive never seen service like it - in a bad way. Money orientated rather than animals if you know what I mean. Then, I heard springfield were good and theyre very close to me, so I registered all my animals there. They do rabbits injections, spay/neuter and loads of other things because I asked about them and they gave me a load of info etc so im presuming they'll see rabbits but I dont know if theyre any good with them!

My rabbits are drinking a lot less as well now the cooler weather is here, it would be a bad sign if they were not eating, but if the weight loss is sudden then perhaps they do need to be looked over by the vet.

Their eating is as good as ever but Maisy especially has lost weight, I picked her up and thought what the.. and brought her in the house and she was just sat on the kitchen floor while I was prodding her and she has lost alot, she used to be i'd say average. Not fat, not thin. And Daisy has always been a fat one, and shes looking like what Maisy used too!

Go to the vet asap.

Mine died after she stopped eating and drinking. Apparently she had a problem where her stomach stopped moving/working, which is quite common in rabbits. Very upsetting, so please, get them checked asap by the vet. Hope it goes well.

Well that doesn't sound so good Gina, strange them losing weight like that, makes me think of worms :confused:
Do let us know what the problem is won't you? so we will then know if our bunnies have the same symptoms.

Oh deffo! Will post if I manage to get in the vets. Will call them up in the morning.

Im not sure, they seem so normal. But dont look normal. Both of them are acting really drowsy, I usually hear them kicking their hutch at night, but I havent heard them for past few nights. Its starting to worry me now.

Just a thought, are they going through a moult? Rabbits I've had in the past I've found eat less and go a little thin when they moult, but the weight soon comes back once its done

I've had problems like this with my bunny in the past and can sometimes be a tooth problem where they can't drink out of the water bottles as a result. Hope you're bunnies are ok and can get them sorted!!!

Well, I couldnt get them in today at the vets, and theyve asked me to call back up first thing - and they'll try to fit me in or get me a cancellation. :(

Well if you are still worried,m ring back and insist they are seen, rabbits become very ill very quickly.. If they won't fit you in threaten to ring moorgate road and complain. They will get you in then I'm sure! :-))) although you won't be popular with the receptionist!! LOL

springfield are great with bunnys when i used to have loads they ALWAYS went there for many years, maybe its the fireworks thrown them off a little?
