Jeremy Vine has just been on asking for gifts of money to Niger Crisis Appeal. This will help, although I wonder how much 'Spotty' Vine, as he is known in the trade due to his schoolboy face, will give himself, or in fact the rest of the radio Two presenters, or Radio two and BBC itself.
I watched Live 8. I saw people in the background, backstage, we are talking household names here, coming to the plentiful food tables time and time again while others were being interviewed in the foreground. I watched while eating a TESCO salad and I earn money. Only Dave Gilmore stood up to be counted.
I have involvement in the charitable sector. I feel that there is much abuse and creaming off going on, I have mentioned this on other threads.
Perhaps the people that should be approached are those multinationals that persuaded the farmers to change crops for a few pence more to satisfy Western, so called, needs. Coffee, kiwi fruit etc. etc.
In the old days, families made provisions for bad harvests, locusts, etc. They had a 7 year rotation program. Always enough food in store for one lean year in 7, the average.
Please dont get me wrong, I will give, but I think the problem is much deeper than my £10 per month.
