Does anyone know of anywhere in Sheffield or the Peaks where it is possible to watch the sunset?

THere's a nice flat rock jutting out from the top of the hill right here - http://tinyurl.com/cmlet , where you can watch the sun set over Ughill moors. Lovely spot - bring insect repellent for sunset excursions.

I'll second the insect repellent point. Went up to stanage edge last night and ended up with lots of bites; even in my ears

Bit of a tangent here, but does anyone know what the big building is that can be seen SW (ish) from Stanage edge? It's got a big chimney.

Andy78- Not sure which building you mean but if we end up there tonight I will have a look.

Could well be. Actually, you could tell me anything and would believe you. :)

For the time being, i will believe it's a concrete plant untill someone tells me otherwise.

Burbage South, just behind Fox House!

It's best when it's snowy, and the sun's setting.

And it's not a concrete factory, it's a cement factory! Apparently they've started using old tyres as fuel there now. That might, however, be a lie.

My favourite places are:

Mother Cap, Over Owler Tor (near Toad's Mouth)
Robin Hood's Cave, Stanage Edge
Hail Mary Hill, Treeton Dyke, Treeton
Boston Castle, Rotherham
Rivington Pike, Rivington, near Bolton
Carn Fadryn, Lleyn Peninsula, Wales
Whistling Sands, Lleyn Peninsula, Wales

I take a lot of sunset photographs and these places have given some astounding shots.

Building is La Farge Cement Works.
It's like Draculas castle overlooking the villages.

I've just been up to the stone circle by Strines Moor and watched the sunset. It was very pretty indeed. You get a lovely view across Ladybower reservoir. :)

Its well nice there. Straight up Eccy Rd/Hathersage rd, turn left 1/2 mile b4 Fox house, then left then right down froggatt, then follow signs to Bakewell. Theres a roundabout b4 bakewell, turn right to Ashford in the water, then its sign posted. Not that ive been there much or anything.. (cheeky mares charge all day everyday for parking)

I second that one.I seen it from up there too when in my cb days going on mobile eye balls with other people that could not sleep.. and it is a great place to see the sunset very open and can see far away.

Just been up to Bole hill and checked the sunset out. It was jolly nice. I think I was at Bole hill anyway. Does it have a lovely view over the ladybower Damn and reservoir? I then wandered over the damn to the woods beyond and enjoyed a night time stroll through the trees. :)

Hmm, I appear to have found another Bole Hill that's nowhere near Crookes; it's out by Ladybower. It's def called Bole Hill, according to my map. :)
