lottie_s 01-11-2009, 20:20 Hi I am in need of newspapers that you no longer need. I use them to line the floor of my hutches but am running low.
Also needed if anyone has any to spare is:
Bubble Wrap
Elastic Bands
Newspapers
Water Bottles
Dishes
Tarpaulin
Snugglesafe heat pads
Please ring or PM for details of were to bring them or I may be able to collect. (I am in Heeley)
Thanks in advance donations are very grateful. I am asking for these item as I know some people may just have them lying around and they are no longer needed. The rescue piggies would make good use of them
I am not to sure that using newspapers is good hun , a vet was telling me that the ink in the print isn't good if they eat it! I don't use newspapers for that reason.
terminator 01-11-2009, 21:03 I am not to sure that using newspapers is good hun , a vet was telling me that the ink in the print isn't good if they eat it! I don't use newspapers for that reason.I think the ink used in news papers is none toxic but dont quote me on that never known any small fury suffer from it being digested might change colour though :hihi:
lottie_s 01-11-2009, 21:34 Iv used it since i started keeping pig early on in the year. I find it really easy to just roll all the woodshaving up in it when cleaning. They have never eaten it though and I always thought as Terminator said that they use none toxic ink. i will double chack though just to be on the safe side. Even thought my current piggies dont eat it doesnt mean to say future piggies wont.
How many bowls and bottles do you need?
lottie_s 01-11-2009, 22:05 Teeny its mainly the metal things that hold them on the hutches that im struggling for. I could do with a couple more bottles and a couple more dishes really. I usually have money in the pig fund but it has all gone on a new run and food etc. I am willing to buy the things myself but I just wondered if anyone had anything lying around that they dont want.
newspaper print used to be toxic but its vegetable based now so isnt a problem...ive always used it , when i had my rabbits as a kid up to now with my guinea pig
LitleMermaid 02-11-2009, 08:56 I use newspaper and have done for four years. My pigs are still alive and kicking :D I've got a tip for you lottie_s-do you ever use the bus? We always nick metros near the end of the day. They only get chucked out anyway!
*Peaches* 02-11-2009, 09:00 Have you tried asking on Freecycle?
for newspapers ask a local cafe to save them for you !
MARY POPPINS 03-11-2009, 11:08 I could save you ours, my nieghbour has two papers every day, and just puts them in the blue bag, but I live at Aughton
littleshef 03-11-2009, 11:24 I'll start saving mine up and see if I can help next weekend when next in Shef- my housemates read broadsheets so plenty of paper lying around at the moment, will be glad to get rid of it!
bogwoppit 03-11-2009, 11:49 Garden wire or even bits of string does great for metal fasteners for bottles and much cheaper or free if you;ve got some kicking about. Got lots of bailing twine (thick string for tying up straw/hay) if you want some of that.
Good luck xx
littleshef 03-11-2009, 11:51 That's a good idea! Come to think of it my dad used some thick gardening twine for our water bottles when we thought we'd lost the white stuff that normally comes with them.
whitebull 03-11-2009, 11:52 Hia,
I've sent you a pm.
haddockman 03-11-2009, 15:25 I picked up a wedge of about 20 Metros on the bus on the way home the other day, definately the best way of collecting papers!
Would anyone who works on the tram be able to save them up? They collect them up during the day and presumably recycle them, might be worth asking!
lottie_s 03-11-2009, 17:02 Hi thanks for all the kind replies etc. I dont use public transport so I have no chance of gettting the metro. I will come to the station whitebull and pick up the newspapers you have offered. Thanks think im sorted for newspapers for now. I keep thining of hunting through peoples paper bins which is a good idea except I keep missing the days that they are put out.
haddockman 03-11-2009, 19:01 Actually, the railway station often have HUGE piles of Metros left over at the end of the day.
One thing with Metros though is they are stapled, so we usually take those out so they can't be eaten.
