Hi, im hopefully applying for the police at Easter 2006.

A few people have told me that i should try and find out the differences between different regions for the requirements etc.

For example a friend of a friend applied for newcastle and said it was really tough and didnt get in, then came here to south yorkshire and got in first time easy.

I just think its awkward because its quite hearsay almost, so do i really believe it? Im hopefully going to apply for South Yorkshire, because thats where i live.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

Also, has anyone else had any experience of the recruitment process?

Im leaving uni in May 2006, so i thought if i applied at Easter 2006 then this would get the ball rolling so to speak, wasnt sure how fast moving the process would be? Obviously dont want to have too much on at once, but as the applucations are opened up new at Easter then i wanted to be first in!

Thaks in advance. x

The earlier you apply the better, at the present time very few forces are recruiting, and those that are usually have such an enormous amount of applications that it's taking months to process them.

This web site may be of some use to you.

Good luck.

Call in at Snig Hill Police Station and ask them if there are any open days coming up. They'll also give you a pack that tells you exactly waht to expect during the tests and interviews.

I would assume your friend was more prepared 2nd time and it was down to knowing what the reqs would be 2nd time around thats all.

Good luck anyhow:thumbsup:

Yes don't give up if you are not succesful 1st time-a friend of mine failed the fitness test twice and passed on her third time; one of her first 'assignmets' was the policing for the G8 event in sheffield last month.

you should give SYP a ring as they have a open day soon (their number is on the website), but the lines were very busy yesterday, you will be lucky to get a place on the open day now i reckon.]

good luck anyway!

Hi, I'm interested in working for the police as well if anyone can help me please.

Do you still need to do a fitness test even for a desk job?
And are there such things as just desk jobs in the police force?

Thanks.

You need to speak to Recruting at police HQ, Snig Hill, on 2202020.

All applicants have to take a fitness tests.

"Desk" jobs are, where ever possible, civilianised. Any officers that are in desk jobs (other than specialised departments such as CID etc) would probably only be there due to, say, medical problems that keep them from being operational. But they are far and few between now. So you can't really aim for that, as such.

You would need to complete 2 years probationary period anyway in uniform before you applied for any other postings.

So. Get fit! :)

i started to apply for south yorkshire police force back in may this year, and im still waiting for a place on a recruitment presentation day before they will take my application further.

My advice to you would be apply as soon as you can as it can be a long process. My last letter from SY Police asked me to call a number in August to book a place on an open day, i rang August 1st and it was engaged all day, by 2pm all 360 places were gone and i'm now on a waiting list for a cancellation!

hope this helps

steve

To join as a uniformed officer you will be required to pass all the selection stages including fitness. You require a full UK driving licence.

For the fitness the sooner you start to ttrain the better.

For civiial jobs you dont need the fitness test, but will still unergo the vetting process.

Desk jobs are given to either officers on sick / injured or CID

Hey there wattsy! Thanks for the reply as well by the way.

The civilian jobs, is it voluntary work or is there a paid job- and whats the pay like if there is please?

Also: I looked on the police force website and I saw that they dont take on people with crap credit history, is this true all throughout the force?

Thanks.

Special Constables are voluntary
The pay scale for new appoiinted probationers i think now starts in the region of Approx £18000pa you then get a pay rise after your 15 weeks training with further increments each September and once you have completed your 2 year probation.

Civilain jobs are usuallly advertised in the star or website and payscales are according to Pay band scale and what the job
is.

Each individual will have their application looked at and treated as such in realtion to your credit history so i obviously cannot comment on your case. Submit your application anyway if your are serious, they can say two words YES or NO.

Don't worry about the fitness test really, I serious think my 82 year old grandad would stand a chance, doing that test was one of the most relaxing days ever.

Cheers for the replies everyone..

What does the fitness test entail exactly?
A long run or summat?
