I think it depends on your age.

It goes up every October. The rates that apply from 1 October 2009 are as follows:

•for workers aged 22 years or more: £5.80 per hour
•for workers aged 18 to 21 inclusive: £4.83 per hour
•for workers aged under 18 (but above compulsory school age): £3.57 per hour

Maybe you should go to places like India where the wage is £1 per day (if they're lucky).

but they rent probly aint half as high as ours.. TBH unless your earning £6+ an hour and have more than £200 a week pay less than 3600rent and 72 tax a month your better off not working...

Everyone has to start somewhere. People that start off on basic wages end up working their way up through the ranks. My first job was £2.50 an hour.

Watch something like 'Blood, Sweat and....' on BBC Three, where they send people from the UK to work abroad producing products for the UK. They have to live on the wage. Without being specific it works out £7 a week with £5 a week on rent, leaving £2 for food.

They have it hard, but its all relative. I've worked for effectively less when I were 8.

And you see kids in Yorkshire doing similar work for pocket money.
