why cant fuel open on tues for all those students

went to fuel last night had a great night! Afew things I'd like to get some feedback on though.....

I have got ask whats the point in having 2-rooms with so called different music policies if the djs are just going to play the same stuff?

We spent around 80% of our time in the Big room (on our right as we walked in) boogie-ing down to a very decent mix of todays as well as yesteryears pop and dance Music (The Dj guy was a bit too keen on using the smoke machine though!!! :confused: )!!! But we all enjoyed the atmosphere in here throughout the night Thanks x :thumbsup:

In our group a couple of our friends enjoy Indie Music so were dead excited about what was apparently on offer in the other room (the side where the toilets are!!) Im also a fan of this other room normally (more intimate/cosy/easier to chat to your friends in) but really didn't like what was happening in here tonight... :gag:

The Dj (the so-called Indie Dj I gather):rolleyes: albeit a relatively decent Dj on the whole doesnt really seem to have the slightest idea of what Indie and Alternative music is.... :loopy: She was using the better quality sound system in this room to her advantage over the other room and played to name a few - Cascada Truly Madly Deeply, Pink U&Ur Hand, Scissor Sisters I Dont Feel like Dancing, Girls Aloud Something Kinda ooh, Madonna Hung Up, Booty Luv Boogie Tonight, Bodyrox Yeah Yeah........... I could go on all day!! :cool: - none of which my Indie buddies would ever dream of getting down to some head banging and crazy dancing on the Dancefloor to! The Drag queens were also in this side most of the night either congregated on the Dj podium or standing around doing nothing (what is their purpose in life??)
:loopy: : :rolleyes: I have got no idea what the politics are at Fuel at the moment, but it seemed that everything last night was geared to making the trash room the success of the night! The better quality Speaker System, The Higher number of Bar Staff, all the Drag Queens being in here all night, the Manager being in here all Night etc! are some reasons on which my judgement is made. We take our Hats off to the Hard working Friendly bar Staff in the Main room and the Dj guy too who even though was a bit too OTTwith his Smoke!!! together Created a fun atmosphere for all of us to enjoy, and by the looks of things we werent the only ones! :love: :thumbsup: Thank You!x

Fantastic comments. I really enjoyFuel when I do go, but know what you mean about the music and smoke machine. I love Indie and was really excited when Fuel started a Gay Indie night, but sometimes the music is a real let down. I prefer the smaller room (toilet side) as I keep falling over the podiums in the bigger room because of the smoke !!!

I checked their website - it looks really great, but no admission prices. I'll give them a call or email.

I'm sure it used to have prices on the web page but I looked too and couldn't find any.

It varies by night and time.
From memory I reckon it used to be £5 / £6 on Saturday's.

Yes another charge from us, although you would think they would let the people in for free who went to Fuel.

So is Lions Lair now officailly a club or just a pub with longer opening hours, do they shut at Midnight and open at 2am ?, if people are in Lions Lair early in the evening and wish to return at 2am are they going to be charged for this although they probably spent all night in there already ?

I'd say that £2 is very reasonable for admission to an ALL-NIGHT club (i. e. until the buses and trains start running again the following morning), and Nocturnal does just what it says on the tin! I honestly can't think of any other club which charges only £2 to get in from 2am onwards (Although there are plenty of ones where it is free to get in before 10 or 11, and might go on until about 4 or 5am)


BTW, how's the new opening hours going at Fuel? How many were at Skint last Monday, as I don't ever go out on Mondays meself, unless it is to perform, and I was doing a cabaret abroad last weekend.

you get a leaflet u tke it to the bar get a bottle with it and then every time u go to the bar u take your empty bottle back and they replace it. drinks on offer are bottles of VS and Fosters and certain spirits

Fridays it is Indie and new wave in the smaller room. In the main room it is Pop and retro dance anthems.

Saturdays it is Pop and kitsch music in the smaller room. In the main room it is Funky House and Electro (with a few classic house anthems at the begining of the night).

Fuel try to cater for everyone's style of music, however it is difficult to please all musical tastes. This is why we have two rooms. Hopefully in the future we may be able to host a rock night. 'All about the staff' I dont really understand. The staff although an integral part to the business and very friendly and extremley hardworking, we cater our music/theme nights/PA's etc for the customers not for the staff.

I am no big fan of Fuel, but your comments seem a bit strong. Fuel do play pop, infact the DJ's at Fuel are quite good. I know what you mean about the staff (Official and Non offcial). Most only deliver excellent customer service,

Most of the staff at Fuel are OK, you get standard service BUT if you are young and pretty you get excellent customer service, try talking to any of the young dancers and they look at you like **** on their shoe. Having said that I do like the music in Fuel and the DJ's are really good, plenty of POP and chart. I especially like Fridays.

Just want to say a massive thinks to the lads at fuel for letting us move Alchemy over there halfway through the night last Friday! Without their help we'd have had to end the night early which would have left alot of people dissapointed. Everyone who came down to Fuel had nothing but positive things to say about the venue (that includes Jon O'Bir one of the UK's leading trance DJs)...we all agreed the layout of the main room was perfect for trance! are you guys open to the idea of an OCCASIONAL trance night at fuel? (we're talking top european dj's here...not the stuff you hear on hallam fm!)

i did hear about alchemy and i thought it was a shame what happened. it would be excellent if you could take it to fuel, i've thought for a long time that fuel really doesn't contribute enough (anything really) to sheffs clubbing scene as a whole and it really should

hmmm:confused:it doesn't. as a club fuel should be a viable option for a night out for everyone who goes clubbing but it simply isn't. you can't claim its homophobia its more a case of it isn't known as a venue that plays good music. i'm not saying it doesn't play good music i'm saying that its fairly anonymous on the clubbing scene

There are more straight people there now than ever, its become a very unsafe place!

The venue is good and the DJ's play some good music it's just the attitude of some of the people who go there that spoil it. Fuel is FANTASTIC if you are young, slim and bitch about people.

The whole scene was not there last night at least 15 gay men (friends) and me were not there !!!

I love the music in Fuel, especially on a Friday. The DJ's make the place for me, it;s just the bitching and dirty looks from the younger people that put me off. Clubbing and enjoying clubbing dosn't end when you turn 40. We have enough enemies without being horrid to each other in a GAY club.

we were there last night, and so was the rest of the entire sheffield gay scene so it would appear... in the big room, there was an amazing (yet somewhat smoke-filled) atmosphere ALL night from 10pm... the stage, the podiums, the dancefloor, the bar, the sofas on either side of the room were all full of happy party loving people and the music policy fitted the night perfectly in our opinion.

we love fridays at fuel, where else can u hear charlotte church being expertly mixed into sandstorm by darude on the sheffield clubbing scene? exactly. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

As far as I know, Fuel is still not open as yet on Sundays.

A very big hand to Pete and all the rest of you who have raised the issue of catering for the Over 40's -however, I'm not the only one who parties like someone less than half my age-. It shouldn't be too hard for Fuel to cater for the older crowd, considering how many of their staff and entertainers are indeed past the big 4-0, compared to, say Dempseys or Club Xes...
The Monday night Skint, by all accounts, has been a great success, probably most likely with students. However, anything on a Monday is not the kind of night I would ever attend in a million years, unless I got A JOB there... LOL!:hihi:

Well, I've met some silly old queens in my time but never such a daft old king - well done JoeP!!

I have to say that I popped into Fuel on Friday night after midnight with my gf we had been on a drive and decided to end the night there. Needless to say we were both sober as my other half was driving and I was very shocked!

I have been to Fuel approx 5 times before and always enjoyed it. It's never been packed to the rafters, and if I'm honest seemed a bit quiet. Friday was crazy, full of pill heads, and these people weren't just drunk, they were off their tits! I' m all for people having a good time, but oh my god! I have never seen such a large room full of sweaty E'd up skinny men jigging about!

To make matters worse, we were charged £12 for entry for 2 on the door, all because we didn't have our membership cards. I told the guy I had never ever been asekd for it before, and he said I had to have it or £12! I got my friends card, who had already been admitted and the guy said he had seen it so £12!
I was quite put off, and asked the guy why we had to have a card when we had never been asked before, he just looked at me! I asked if it's because it was expensive tonight and they have to make their money! He still just looked at me!

Then the toilets were absolutely swimming in ****, no lights, and some security woman shoved my cubicle door open as I had just whacked my kegs up saying she needed bog roll! Apparently some half- cut wench had fell arse-over-tit.

I'm ****** off about the whole cash thing as I got told by someone who used to work there that they may be shutting Fuel as they can't cover the rent due to profits not doing great, so they rob their customers?

I have a good mind to write to Head Office and complain! I payed £12 and they didn't even have adequate plumbing! and I had to shake( as yes you guessed it, there was no toilet roll for the security woman, neither was there any in the other cubicles!)Mind you I would probably just get free vouchers, and lets face it, I don't want them!!

The drug thing can't be helped as let's face it , the scene is full of it, but I must say I'm dissapointed by everything else!

As a person that usually goes to Fuel and usually has good nights i can see where you're coming from. I really enjoy the music on Saturday nights but i can honestly say the staff there aren't very professional and the place could be so much better and an asset to the scene. At the minute i think it's just a place to go where i can be myself and have a dance to the music i enjoy, nothing more.

For me I'm very innocent (and usually drunk) when in fuel and have never seen any drugs. But I have been acused of being on them, (even after just a couple of drinks). Just because I like to dance and can dance for ages.
But anyway fuel has always had it's good and bad points, but you don't have to pay if you don't want to get in.
If you read back on my posts here you see I've complained but generally they take up the complaints. E-mail them and let them know about the toilets, they always ask us to let them know about any problems.
But otherwise I can't see any problem with the rest of the problems.. skinny people dancing not really a crime (maybe offer them a burger)...:hihi:

DJ Mark Park is on Saturdays 10pm - 12am then Full Phil takes over 12am - 3am and thats every weekend.

Reading all the commets on this thread makes me sad. Fuel could be such a fantastic venue, but judging by what people are saying it really is not serving the whole LGB community.

The story someone posted about their visit on the 23rd really dosn't sound good. Why £12, I have never paid that to go in Fuel and on the odd occassions I do go I have never been asked for my membership card. The toilets in Fuel can be a total mess, and judging by the description of the ladies loos no wonder most women use the gents !!!

£2.50 before 11pm £5 after. If you do not have a membership card then you will be charged an £1 as a non member (the same as most nightclubs who operate a membership system). I have contacted the venue manager regarding the issue with the toilets so hopefully this will be sorted asap. It is difficult to cater for the entire LGBT community, as we are all so different and diverse, however Fuel tries to offer something as in we have different music on different nights; Indie, Pop, Funky House/Electro. Fuel is not for everyone's taste and we dont expect it to be, for example I dont like Gatecrasher. However Fuel does take your comments on board and it is good that the club causes this much discussion!

The new legislation that has come in is that you cant describe a place as 'Gay' or 'Straight' now (in answer to the comments of Fuel being to straight). Fuel is open to all and welcomes people who are up for a good night without any 'issues' or 'problems' with our gay clients. The door staff are experts in being aware of who is sound and who isnt. To be honest I just dont see the bitching and I'm out in the club all the time. I know SO many lovely people that come in regularly and there is always so much positivity and everyone gets together for a laugh and parties away. It does end up being like a social event as the gay scene in Sheffield is so small. I can always go to work and know I'll see people I know and have a good laugh with them. I want to thank all that come to Fuel and make it the fun place it is and thank people for their contiuned support. I am 39 years old, not much hair and have a few extra pounds and often I am made to feel very unwelcome by the younger, thinner more "in with it crowd" at Fuel, something I don't get in Essential or NRG. And it's not just me, my 40+ year old friends feel the same. The worst ones for bitching and dirty looks and being unfriendly are the Podium dancers, surely ALL staff at Fuel should be making ALL paying customers feel welcome. I thaught it was an attitude free space !!!

I am no expert but I think it is becoming more and more standard that clubs have membership as part of their licence. This will become even more stricter when the smoking ban comes in as I think members only clubs can apply for an exemption from the law/ban.

Perhaps "smack them" was a bit harsh, but you wouldn't put-up with a checkout person in ASDA taking the p*ss, so why should you have to take it froma go-go boy in a club ?

Complain to the owners, and if they actualy care about their customers they will do something about it, if not you know how much they value your custom.

The membership database is in place so we can have a database so we can send mail outs to inform everyone of what is happening at the club and what we are doing, PA's, theme nights etc for in the next few months. It also keeps people who would not respect our space out (for example people walking passed the club randomly who the door staff feel would not respect our space, they can then say it is members only). It is not about 'screwing' anyone out of money. Non members get charged more just like anywhere else, I got charged for non member when I went to the Gym the other day! Dempseys keep a member system and they dont even send mail outs.

They do yes, and thats their worst point about not mailing their members, I find it extremely annoying that they hold a Cabaret event and only find out by them advertising it inside Dempseys.

And the last time i went they had no lager on tap and i was driving so i only wanted the one and didnt want the vodka as i wasn't sure how much i could have (legally) to drive home.

I used to go once or twice a week but have recently chosen the go to Bungalows and Bears where i can have equally as good of a time.

Might be best to go in the week and ask for a membership card. I know they are quite strict sometimes as they only let people in with membership cards. You can always give it a try i suppose!

We went to Lions Lair on Saturday and left after one drink because of the smoke, went to Weatherspoons (no smoking).

Gayham is fighting the cause to save the two big erections of the twin towers aka the Tinsley cooling towers. I cant believe they were going to get rid of them. It's part of Sheffield's past and herritage, yes they look ugly but lets do something with them to create a significant land mark! (oooh you can tell she's been on one today..oooh the passion) They are part of Channel 4's Big Art Project and are going to be transformed into something, as of yet nobody knows!

That's no surprise; there was a cover feature in the Star about my Drag career last year, and about my Wuthering Heights single. However, they spelt the website name wrong ('Babydeltric' when it should have been www.babydeltic.com )...


BTW, I have a friend who recently signed up for the 'text message' service from Fuel, and he says his pay-as-you-go credit has gone down considerably and he has not used the phone except for incoming calls, a few outgoing local ones, and receiving about 3 messages from Fuel about events and the like.

Is there a charge for receiving Fuel texts, because if there is, I don't think it has been made abundantly clear to everyone!


Finally, the Urban splash launch party for the Parkhill Redevelopment was fantastic, with meself giving out prizes at Bingo, and singing some songs before the main comedy act came on! Unmissable!:thumbsup:

DJ Mark Park is on Saturdays 10pm - 12am then Full Phil takes over 12am - 3am and thats every weekend.

Well they shouldnt do it, as its bad Customer Service, their job description obviously needs changing, they are on the front-line so they need to create a good impression, or people will comment, eg - Bensonhedges.
