It has been a long time since I have posted on here, but I have been keeping up with everything that you have all been saying.
What a read Sheffield forum is! lol.

On behalf of fuel, I would like the opportunity to wipe the slate clean with all of you. We opened a club with very little money in a very tatty old venue that wasn't ideal for what we wanted. We have tried to make the best of it but have faced various setbacks and have made our fair share of mistakes.
Mistakes that have been made because we have continually strived to improve and change, some changes have been good and some haven't.
We will make loads more mistakes and we will make loads more improvements because we are dead set on getting fuel spot on.
Anyway, we are now in a position to open a venue that will be second to none and cannot wait to do so. Thanks to your support, we have been able to invest the money you have spent with us back in, and relaunch a completely different club this Friday 26th May.

We appreciate all of the things you have slagged us off for or commented on and want to assure all of you that we take everything seriously and will do something about all of our short comings as soon as we possibly can.
For instance the mirrors in the gents, this was meant to be a tounge in cheek bit of fun, not a sleaze pit, but we appreciate all of your feedback. We understand it has been taken that way and are adjusting things accordingly. I could list various things but there is no point because it will all be a completely different story by friday.
And yes, I am sure there will be plenty of faults with the new club but we will continue to strive towards our goal of getting the club spot on and we will sort those problems too.

We genuinely want to make a good job of our venue and we want to contribute towards making Sheffield's gay scene better.
It doesn't seem that it is very often that someone has succeeded in doing this in Sheffield before, and if you take this forum as an example of opinions in Sheffield then to be honest it isn't a surprise. It is a daunting challenge trying to please you guys.
But we are up to that challenge and want to do as well as we can for you, and for us.
So how about we all start again with the new venue and you give us a break and a chance to prove that we are going to make an effort for you and we are going to provide you a quality, community-minded club with excellent services?
I know we won't please all of you but I hope that you will see that we are trying and we are genuine.

To get the ball rolling I want to make you all an offer....

I am asking our office manager to contact all of the people that have been in the recent debate on here to offer them VIP entry to our launch party.
We are not to trying to buy you or any other sinister idea that someone may come up with.
We want to say thank you for those of you that have supported us, as well as give those that haven't had a good experience with us before the chance to try us again for free to see if we can do better this time round.

We look forward to showing you what we are really about.

Couldn`t agree more, has anyone else noticed the ones complaining/winging most are Climax people, as on the Fuel vs Climax poll, you can see who voted for who.......... or maybe its just me who notice this :suspect:

I don`t think Fuel has gone downhill at all, yes the price of drinks have gone up, but thats not exactly gonna break the bank. Its certainly a better place than any other gay venue, and we do get artists on as well, which I imagine dont come free to Fuel............

As I also mentioed before, if you don`t want to pay £6, get in before 11pm, then its only £4.......... or if thats not good enough for you, then don`t bother going .......... simple really isn`t it..... :thumbsup:

there will be indie / alternative stuff in the near future. it has just been a massive job improving what we have already without trying to add more to that at the same time. we are looking for quality alternative djs to work with on this project as we speak.

Oh its a Friday ritual at work, we go straight out and stay out for as long as possible, I have been struggling of late, and try to slow down drinking to start with, but it never works , lol........... Well I was right, I was wrecked, lol............. but didn`t make Fuel, as I ended up with no one to go with and went home :( .......... so then, what was it like ? Did it live upto your expectations ?, or was it crap ?

I was impressed. Although there are a few finishing touches needed, it looks a lot bigger than before.
The main dance dance arena (to the right as you enter) is much more open as they have got rid of the raised stage and seating areas. The DJ booth is also a more prominent feature on the far right hand side.
The 'Trash Palace' side is pretty much the same as before, but with a lot of the seating removed to leave room for a dance floor.
The urinal mirrors in the male toilets have been partially frosted, but you can still see a lot of what is going on down below. I prefer the female toilets, with their mosaique mirrors and disco ball.

I think that rather than have hard house/trancey crap in the main room on both Friday and Saturday they should do a 'flip' like Essential and play pop in there one of the nights. The pop room was certainly the busier of the 2 last night, suggesting that is the music most people (including myself) prefer.

hiya SF bloggggers.. just a little about my visit to Fuel last night. On arriving.. at aprox 11pm.. people were still queueing to get in.. there where many drag queens on stilts, entertaining us while we were waiting to get in.

Must have got in just b4 11 cos it only cost me 4 quid.. unless they didnt realize it had past 11 haha Some bloke in a wedding dress took my money.. who thort i was a lesbian :hihi: s/he realised i wasnt.. but had a feel at my groin to make sure :love:

We followed the pathway..which led to a huge dance room.. it was pretty amazing.. there was this huge erection of a Dj box..painted in white emulsion.. i went over and touched it.. the music was a mix of dance and funky house.

It was difficult finding the entrance to the Trash room... its a very dark corridor.. that leads to black velvet material.. which you pull aside and enter into DRAG HAVEN and poofs in hotpants.. its amazing.. if you like glitter and Cheeezy classics :thumbsup: This room was very busy.. not alot of room to mince :huh:

I wondered into the gents.. wow the mirrors have changed a little.. they have glued white fancy transfers on the lower edging of each mirror..so you cant easily spy on willies...altho if you really want to.. with effort..you can still spot the odd knob or two. Glancing into the ladies... it seems very glittery..more suited for the gay men.. i think we deserve a glitter ball.. more than the Lesbains.. maybe we would appreciate it :P

i only stayed about half an hour.. but i can imagine when i organise my next night out.. ill be having alot of fun here. Look out for me :D

Judging by the huge queues both on Friday and last night, I wonder if they will have both rooms open tonight? As its a bank holiday I imagine there will be loads of people going out (myself included).

I'm very dissapointed by the two rooms. I thought one was for bumming and one was for fisting. I walk in there to find trendy decor, lighting, visuals, and an eclectic mix of people. Honestly, I thought it was supposed to be gay. Bring back the good old days of the blue oyster bar with chains and swings and leather chaps. Thats gay. www.gayham.com

My sister went for the relaunch last week and said she's never been anywhere where she has experienced such a negataive attitude.Her husband was stopped by bouncers and asked if he was on drugs as he was looking dodgy (may i add my sister is a drugs officer with south yorkshire police as are nearly everyone in the group with them lol)

She was made to feel uncomfortable my a bitchy drag queen (the comments the dq made weren't your usual banter) The bar staff were pretty much the same and she generally felt the place had a bad atmosphere after how they had been treat. My sister and her husband have many gay friends and often go out to gay bars/clubs with them and say they have never felt this way about anywhere they've been not even in leeds!

Before everyone jumps on this post stating im bitching about fuel again i'm not i'm just passing on what happened. I feel v dissapointed that they were made to feel like this as my straight friends who went to fuel with me a few times were treat the same.

What hope have we got of everyone gay and straight being able to mix and be as one when time and time again straight people are made to feel like this in a gay venue.

I shall leave it with this...

Gay people want to be accepted for what they are and not feel as a seperate part of society so why do we make gay bars/clubs feel unwelcome to straight people that aren't the stereotypical fag hag or "metrosexual" In my opinion we are only making it harder to intergrate ourselves into society and to be seen as something acceptable if anything we are segregating ourselves further.

This is my 1st post but i have been checking this page for a while, I used to live in Sheffield but now live in London but often come back to visit. I have been to Fuel a few times now and have to say that it is a breath of fresh air for the scene in Sheffield and about time there was a good gay venue in the city centre.

I do have to agree with the previous post, I went to Fuel a few weeks ago and the drag queens were horrendous! I know that part of being a drag queen is to have "attitude" but they were completely rude all night, dishing out dirty looks, only serving customers when they could be bothered and generally being self obsessed and annoying.

I still had a good night but left thinking that maybe hiring efficient bar staff with customer service training might be an option!

I remember posting months ago, in the early days of this thread, and being right impressed by the bar staff at fuel, friendly and all. I have to say that i do agree with the comments made above on the Drags behind bar. I went there a month ago with some friends and, as my mate went to his boyfriend to ask for a pound afetr we had ordered at the bar, that blonde drag shouted abuse at him, treating him as if he was about to go away without paying! Things like this make you feel unwelcomed and i have not been since! Shame because there are still some decent people working there (Dawn and Tony at the door are good examples), but i am fed up with the attitude of some of them, nobody's impressed because you work behind the bar at fuel, you know, so drop the attitude!

I've been going to Fuel more or less on a weekly basis since it opened and I remember being disheartened with there being a mix of dance and pop in the same room with pop finishing at roughly half 11 then having to stand dance for the rest of the night. I think the seperation of the two types of music is great but i feel that the quality of the two rooms is severely unequal, with the dance room being much superior in size and the pop room being much smaller and cramped and more appropriate for a chill out lounge rather than an actual room. I dont want to moan after the change because it is really good that Fuel have listened and seperated the music so we can have our favourite types all night, however it could be an idea to switch the rooms and have pop in one room one night then swap it over the next, particularly with Fridays and Saturdays. Saying this, i think i remember seeing on a flyer that the bigger room has pop on a Thursday night? I haven't been yet so I cant be sure. The drag queens do have a slight attitude and they do seem to favour the regulars which gets slightly annoying.

I actually find the drag queens hilarious and they really make an effort with their make up and hair and outfits. I like the cheeky jibes I get from them, you just have to have whats called a sense of humour. If you are intimidated by the drag quuens then don't go to their bar!

P.S. Gayham is hilarious, its good to have him back.

I was there and shuddering to think back, I actually attempted to sit in the trolley with the drag queen! Instead, I sat in a Waitrose one and was wheeled home by my friend. Honestly, nights at fuel transform into a big end of week ridiculous drunken embarassment lol.

i must admit the Drag queens can be a little frightening... esp when your shy and fridged like me... but once you get use to it..you except its just part of the entertainment.. you learn not to take it all serious.. and just laugh at them.

i think Demo made a brillient point about the gay scene segregating its self..from the straights.. maybe we should welcome them with open arms.. unless they have gay basher written on their forheads.. maybe Fuel should be encouraging a mix of gay and straight... or at least try it..to see if it works.

Because I'm an empty human being inside lol. Nah, I dont know, I just enjoy a big full atmosphere that's from weekends. Plus I have no one to go with tonight which would be slightly scary. I'm going again on Friday. I might try the Rusty night on Thursday as well.

On a more serious note knowing the issues that *niche* has had before think i'd be a bit scared stumbling out of fuel on a drunken friday night.

I'm not saying that everyone that goes to niche is out to cause trouble but unfortunatly as with anything theres a small minority that do.

I guess only time will tell as to wether the two can work side by side without any trouble

the Forum is a safe place to air our views.. it would be pretty boring in here..if we were all feeding back positive comments.. there wouldnt be much of a discussion lol Fuel are happy to ehar the complaints.. that way..they can keep improving the service and venue..making it better and better :D

niche does promote a bad impression.. with the large metal detectors outside.. and the extra large bouncers :| scares me a little bit.. so i tend to make a detour and approach Fuel from the opposite direction.. like a big pansey haha

I am a poster on this forum, and [u]I [/i]haven't been critical about Fuel... In fact I had a fantastic time on the relaunch night, and said so, quite enthusiastically. I hope you don't think I should be barred!

and yes, re the metal detector thingies at niche .. the night of fuel's relaunch, I saw the machine that folks had to walk through to get into niche, and I thought.. "jeez! thanks but no-thanks!" it was daunting. H-S:- the trouble you refer to was when niche was at its "old" venue.

I heard that they have just used the name and actually all the Niche DJ's and the loyal crowd have gone to the Adelphi. Still you wouldn't catch me going into Niche EVER. However I have never seen any trouble outside...I asked the doormen at Fuel about this the other week and they said they get on really well with Niche's doorstaff...so it's nice to know they work together to avoid trouble...although I have noticed more of a police presence than ever before outside both clubs

a few of my mates went to niche where it was and they've said that all that's niche about the new niche is the name and they now goto adelphi hence the trouble a couple of weeks ago

Just wanted to thank you all for coming and making the opening party amazing. we still know we have changes to make and improvements will continue to happen indefinately.
we are watching the balance between pop and funky at the weekend and will certainly consider a room swap on one night if that is what will make people happy. however we need to give all of the nights some time to bed in to be able to make a educated choice.
it will still take us a good while to get fuel to where we want it but i am sure you will agree that we are moving in the right direction.

i shouldnt worry about Niche moving anywhere.. u know people go to a club to spend time inside the venue. so, bearing that in mind, i dont think it will affect fuel at all... and also, Niche has historically stayed open way later than fuel is licensed to do... so people from both clubs, shouldnt be clashing while waiting for cabs etc.

ive been... its alot different... wen you enter in the main door.. it leads into the dance, R&B room.. the bar is directly in front of you.... then you go through a dodgy tunnel.. to the outside..which is the Cheezy room..there is a whole in the wall.. where the DJ stands.. there is a huge pole in the center... where the girls or the queens can pole dance..

Oh its even camper, esp in the Trashy Palace, with chandaliers and all.

Well here we go, my first visit to the new re-furbished Fuel was last Monday, 29th May, I for some unknown reason, decided to go on a Monday, just one of those crazy things I do, maybe it was just to see what the place looked like empty, or to see what Scotty looked like, anyway I went ..........

The 2 rooms idea well when i walked in it was like, OMG whats happened here.

The Trash Palace Oh dear, that name has to go, its awful, anyway the place sectioned off looked quite good, there was a lot of red about, so if ya dont like red, ya stuck really, the dance floor looked a bit small, nice idea about the dj box, at least you can see who is spinning the tunes.

The Monday music Not my cup of tea, but then I wasnt drunk at the time.

The toilets I have heard so much about these toilets from this thread, and when I walked in, thankfully it was empty, my first reaction was OMG whats this, although they have frosted the bottom part up, you can still see if you stand in the corners, they are very sleezy.

Monday night Gawd the place was a bit empty, i was chatting to 2 guys in Lions Lair, and they were visiting Fuel for the first time, they could have picked a better night, but I suppose Monday isnt everyone`s taste, so glad in a way the place is split into 2, or it would have looked really bad with a large one room with hardly any people.

Drinks priceThe worst thing about Fuel, is the price of lager, does put me off a bit. I know some queens can make a half a coke last all night, but not this one.

Overall opinion I think I am gonna have to try it on a busy night, but wont be in a rush to do it, that will happen on the 17th June. Was a bit disapointed to be honest.

I have a friend who is coming over from Stockton on Tees on Saturday and to be honest I would probably take him to Dempseys........... that about says it all :) ... but remember these are only my opinions, and I know everyone has their own opinion about the place.

well i rememebered my last experience of Dempseys... id forgotten my membership card..so asked the door man if he had a record of members in the book.. he said.. nooo you will have to pay full price...has a none member... so i decided to take myself and my 7 friends else where (ie Fuel)

Well I went to fuel on Friday and it was relitavely busy but it hasn't quite seen the same crowds since the re-launch night, or even before when there was one room. I wonder if Saturday nights are the busiest or if some people have gone elsewhere?

please be aware there is ample security at fuel to ensure your safety both inside and outside of the venue...

Well fuEL was fun last night, we were in the Trash Palace all night, apart from one visit to the other side, which I must say looks completely different and was quite empty.

The Trash Palace was the place to be last night, was a bit more fuller, and got a bit drunk as usual, and some queen made me spill some drink on my top.

But all in all it was fun.

Soz didn`t see u Happysherpa there.

Yea, last night was a good night. Me and my friend got a bit drunk and excited and laid down on the dancefloor during Born to Handjive, kicking our legs in the air at each other.

Well I finally made it to the new fuEL, and have to say I was impressed.

Didn't really spend much time in the main room (which was looking good if not a bit loud), but found the Trash Palace to be extremely camp and mincing so had a good laugh! It seemed far busier in there even though its the smaller room. Gayham was, of course, on form and the place seemd to have a fun atmosphere.
Oh and the 'mirrors' in the bogs are a lot of fuss about nothing. Some queens..! :D
