I'm sure you take every precaution, but underage people have always been able to get into clubs, I did when I was 16/17/18, I was just suggesting that the guy who wanted an under 21's night just goes down and tries to get in, if he looks 21 or over he should have no problem.

i dont think you will recieve your membership card b4 saturday, but if you tell them at the entrance that you have applied online for membership..they should be ok about it. The guys are pretty laid back.. esp if you look gay =)

Erm Nick I am deffo a she and unfortunately well past 21!!! The reason I was asking was actually for my son. He does not look over 21 - well I don't think so anyway :) He will be 18 later this year and will just have to wait, it would just be nice for him to have somewhere to go that he feels safe and accepted.

If he is 18 I am sure he will get into Fuel, some of the bar men dont even look 18, lol, and as long as he got some ID.

Damo if you are a student you can use a student card if not the cinema at centertainment do proof of age passes. You will need your birth certificate and a photo. I think that is all you need, you can ring them and ask.

Went last night and had a really good time. Haven't been in a club since last May and altho I don't miss clubbing at all (prices appear to have gone thru the roof everywhere!) I enjoyed myself. One of our group got ID'd and she's 31, but she's also quite small.

Well I'm getting a big sick of Fuel now. I loved it when it first opened but it now plays dance music all friday and saturday nights from half 11 which isn't what everyone wants. I agree, the music in there gets on my nerves... To be honest there should be more of a variety. I don't like the stereotypical gay attitude in there anymore. Just coz you're gay doesn't mean you want to dance to Cher, Kylie, Madonna and Rachel Stevens all night.

Yes I agree Amanda was amazing! What a great voice, I hope Fuel have more Dance/House PA's on rather than pop they are so much better just look at the LSL incident. They did play quite a bit of 70's but they should have played it all night and dropped the current pop and moved on into house music as the norm. Just a note to let you know that our refurbishment is going ahead slowly but surely!
we are currently waiting for legal documentation etc.
however when all the paperwork has been pushed we will have an awesome venue for you!

to allow us time to complete works connected with the refurbishment we will have to close some days over the next few months. this is to allow for flooring to be ripped up, paint and finishes to dry etc etc.

therefore we have decided to close monday, tuesday and wednesday nights every week from the 1st of march, until the refurbishment is completed.
we apologise for any inconvenience caused and suggest that anyone out on those nights use either lions lair, dempseys or Xcess as an alternative.

as i am sure you will agree, this is a small price worth paying for a high quality club with a choice of music styles and atmospheres!

Danny can never win. He tries to keep Sheffield Forum guys up to date, and asks for opinions and gets told off for not mentioning other clubs enough. Fuel has a right and should only have to worry about advertising itself. Dempsies, Lions Lair, Climax etc.. all have the ability to post here. For Danny to say try other bars is just to point out that they are other bars and to stop complaints about the closure..

I don`t think its rude at all, he is mearly stating that while Fuel is closed on Mon-->Wed there are other alternatives to go to, would be nice if Sheffield Gay Scene could unite as one. But thats unlikely to happen.

Danny does a great job informing this Forum of what is happening, shame Dempseys and Xes don`t keep us upto date on what they are doing, although I am sure they both know about this Forum.

I totally agree with you..that Dempseys and xcess are capable of promoting their venues..but they dont seem to be motivated enough.. which is a shame

I feel, and this is my opinion, that Xes and Dempseys feel they don`t need to promote themselves as they know they rely on the usual "regulars" turning up.

Which is a shame, as I am sure both could do alot better, although Xes does have "Themed Nights" on Fridays, they don`t seem to do much during the rest of the week.

I have no idea what Dempseys does anymore, not been for ages, I tried to contact them, but they haven`t replied.

Yes you can sign in on the door, it cost a few quid, on thier website you can join for free.

went to Fuel for the first time last night and LOVED it, had such a brill night, apart from when some lady squared up to me looking for some aggro over a gross- and grossly amusing-misunderstanding! My friends were asked their sexuality and not even given the option of signing up on the door...to me it puts across the wrong image and segregates the gay community even further.

Neither I nor my friends have been asked about our sexuality and i've always found the door staff there to be the friendliest in sheff always smilin and up for a laugh, as anyone on this forum so much as seen em scowl?

That is the biggest load of rubbish I have heard in a long time. I work on 'the scene' and know so many different, interesting gay people, from really intelligent students, artisits, DJ's, Policemen, A doctor, Nurses and yes mincing hairdressers. It always amazes me the eclectic mix of people in Fuel, from Chavvy scum to middle class boys. In no way what so ever are they all the same - open your eyes.

I've enjoyed my nights in Fuel, I'm straight, had no hassle getting in, getting served, or getting out. And hopefully I'll be celebrating my birthday there next month :D

This toilet thing really doesnt surprise me, but as a gay man it does make me feel disappointed, and actually a bit embarassed. Why do some gay places have to focus on cheap, dirty sex? There are 2 sets of urinals in the gents toilets so if you are embarrassed about the size of your todger, then use the urinals that aren't under the tilted mirrors. It's really not such a problem is it?

There has been great feedback about the toilets in the club and let's face it, you can't please everyone all of the time, but we do our best. Also, it's not all finished yet so on the launch party on 26th, you'll see the finished product and I think you'll love it!

I have been a few times recently and more when it first opened and imo i think it has got a lot worse than when it first started. The prices have increased quite dramatically once they had a decent crowd in, now £6 after 11. We went last Friday the music selection was ok but the DJ ing was at best awful, there was no mixing as such and could probably have been done by somebody with 2 cassestte tape players! I am not sure what happened to the old drag queen DJ (Rusty) i think? but she was ok, the one last week whether we are not meant to be able to tell the difference? was horrendous, i would rather have a DJ hired because of their abilities not the dresses and make up they wear!

As for the toilets they have obviously been down to xes and copied them, it does not help gay image when open minded stright people do visit venues like this and find things as stereo typical as the mirrors, unfortunately all this does is confirm gay stereotypes and show that all we are interested in is d1ck,which though true for some people, I do not all believe it is necessary to act like Graham Norton and dress like Julian Clary just because u r gay.

Unfortuantely Fuel has obviously decided under the new management that seedier is better, all i can suggest is that they spend a few nights in Manchester and see that nice none seedy gay bars can not only survive but do well.

I would now rather spend £15 on a train ticket and pay £6 somewhere it is worth paying to go in to and come home at 11.30 than spend another 'average' night in Sheffield for a few quid less.

What Sheffield needs is quality Gay or gay friendly venues that don't feel the need to completely take over a community and then slowly eek up prices after draining the venues around them, I just hope that places like Dempseys and xes continue to survive so as people aren't forced in to one place.

i dont claim to be a DJ, i have heard DJ's from around the world in different cities and am stating an opinion that this particular DJ is not good by anybodys standard. And i am surprised that you or others haven't noticed as far as i am aware mixing is a basic DJ skill. Just beacause she has been there a few weeks doesn't mean that she is good it probably just means they haven't found anybody else. Unfortunately in all jobs there are people that aren't good at their chosen profession and i am suggesting that she is one, not that i personally could do better but a nightclub that employs her should notice as that is their business.

can i just say that musically the main room at fuel @ the re-lauch and therafter will be equally on a par with the leeds and manchester scene's and quite cutting edge !!!!!

Funkymonkey and markpark there is no need to take it personally, obviously you have some type of vested interest as all of your posts only relate to fuel. This is a website designed for sharing opinions and that is what I am doing. As far as I am aware that is not the only type of music played at fuel currently and it also plays commercial dance and house that can easily be mixed from what i have heard elsewhere and it isn't done by the current dj, relating that to what it will be in the future is irrelevant, i am stating an opinion on the 'current' DJ.

I agree with some of what James wrote. When Fuel first opened last year I thought it was great - regular entertainers, good music, cheaper entrance, generally quite trendy. Recently I think it has gone downhill, and hope that after the relaunch (which will no doubt be very spectacular) the same doesn't happen again.

Why do you think its gone down hill? It's the same price as any city club £6 hardly breaks the bank and no other club has entertainers on. I love the fact that Fuel has regular entertainers you end up getting to know them...Gayham is my favourite, he is such a freak, but hilarious! I don`t think Fuel has gone downhill at all, yes the price of drinks have gone up, but thats not exactly gonna break the bank. Its certainly a better place than any other gay venue, and we do get artists on as well, which I imagine dont come free to Fuel............

Different people like different things FACT! some people may prefer the cheese and general campness of climax and some may prefer the kind of night that fuel puts on.

I don't prefer either to be quite honest i'm an all rounder but after all the times i've been to fuel i've never found a can enjoy myself like i have elsewhere e.g heaven (london) g-a-y (london) fibre (leeds) queens court (leeds) NG1 (nottingham) for example.

But you can't say i havent tried i've been to fuel many times now and each time i've been disappointed so to imply i'm biased is wrong spiderpete as i'm not

It has been a long time since I have posted on here, but I have been keeping up with everything that you have all been saying.
What a read Sheffield forum is! lol.

On behalf of fuel, I would like the opportunity to wipe the slate clean with all of you. We opened a club with very little money in a very tatty old venue that wasn't ideal for what we wanted. We have tried to make the best of it but have faced various setbacks and have made our fair share of mistakes.
Mistakes that have been made because we have continually strived to improve and change, some changes have been good and some haven't.
We will make loads more mistakes and we will make loads more improvements because we are dead set on getting fuel spot on.
Anyway, we are now in a position to open a venue that will be second to none and cannot wait to do so. Thanks to your support, we have been able to invest the money you have spent with us back in, and relaunch a completely different club this Friday 26th May.

We appreciate all of the things you have slagged us off for or commented on and want to assure all of you that we take everything seriously and will do something about all of our short comings as soon as we possibly can.
For instance the mirrors in the gents, this was meant to be a tounge in cheek bit of fun, not a sleaze pit, but we appreciate all of your feedback. We understand it has been taken that way and are adjusting things accordingly. I could list various things but there is no point because it will all be a completely different story by friday.
And yes, I am sure there will be plenty of faults with the new club but we will continue to strive towards our goal of getting the club spot on and we will sort those problems too.

We genuinely want to make a good job of our venue and we want to contribute towards making Sheffield's gay scene better.
It doesn't seem that it is very often that someone has succeeded in doing this in Sheffield before, and if you take this forum as an example of opinions in Sheffield then to be honest it isn't a surprise. It is a daunting challenge trying to please you guys.
But we are up to that challenge and want to do as well as we can for you, and for us.
So how about we all start again with the new venue and you give us a break and a chance to prove that we are going to make an effort for you and we are going to provide you a quality, community-minded club with excellent services?
I know we won't please all of you but I hope that you will see that we are trying and we are genuine.

To get the ball rolling I want to make you all an offer....

I am asking our office manager to contact all of the people that have been in the recent debate on here to offer them VIP entry to our launch party.
We are not to trying to buy you or any other sinister idea that someone may come up with.
We want to say thank you for those of you that have supported us, as well as give those that haven't had a good experience with us before the chance to try us again for free to see if we can do better this time round.

We look forward to showing you what we are really about.

can i just say that musically the main room at fuel @ the re-lauch and therafter will be equally on a par with the leeds and manchester scene's and quite cutting edge !!!!!

Can I ask, when will fuel be sorting out the access problem to the club, please?

I've been on a couple of occasions, and enjoyed myself, and enjoyed the general atmosphere, but haven't been more often because it's a real struggle using sticks, rather than my chair. ( I was under the impression that you were going to ramp the top end of the "verandeh" towards the roundabout?)

I'm not criticising, ducks, just trying to chase it up. I think you've done well with the premises you had, and what you had to work with at the time. however, I can't enjoy the club as I'd like and that's a disappointment to me, and lost revenue/custom for yourselves.

We should be grateful that a forward thinking, intelligent, creative and inspirational group of people want to develop the pitiful scene we had here pre-fuel.

We should be admiring their work, their dedication to their customers and their communication with those they are trying to please. have you ever had any interaction with the brains behind the leadmill, or gatecrasher.... or even climax.

Carlton, Pete, Danny and others are regularly in Fuel listening to what people have to say, there and then, watching people's reactions and responding to what the gay scene of sheffield project that they want. Above all, they CARE and are not doing this to make money.

Unlike any other club in England (that i have been to), Fuel is a welcoming family of diverse individuls who all have one thing in common... and it is not, believe it or not, being GAY. It is the univeral unconditional acceptance of others regardless of sexual orientation, race, sex, social status, fiancial status, age, disability....

Fuel represents a philosophy and that is what so many of you are missing.
It is a philosophy of freedom and respect.

Fuel have made something pretty remarkable from a seriously knackered club called purple, berlins, whatever...and have done this extremely well. they are continuing to develop and expand inside and outside.

Yes really...with two L's. To all of those who don't like it...don't go to it...but you will still find them there every friday and saturday..pathetic. The DJ box looks amazing and it still isnt finished! I went in on Saturday and cant believe what they have done to the dance floor! It looks so different! It nice now the DJ box will be more central cos I didnt like it where it was before. I wonder how the sound will work with having two rooms? Where the heck is Gayham on saturdays now? we all genuinely started working at fuel because...

1. we wanted to give people a great party and make people smile.
2. we wanted to do our bit to make our community better

we have had to learn that we live in a capitalist world and money makes the world go round. however, making money is far from our primary goal, it is a neccasary evil that we all have to work our asses off for. our genuine motivation is as stated above.

actions speak louder than words so watch how we keep on coming back to you with better and better things, not just when we have too but all of the time.

well guys.. you are ALL right... i checked the mirrors last night.. OMG they are worse than i imagined... i wasnt brave enough to pee in the urinals.. altho, even if i had tried.. i think i would have experienced stage fright. I have to agree totally about Fuel. I first went in December and had a wicked time. Not liking it half as much now and definitely think it's turning sleeeeeeezy too. The two room thingy they have going on is awful too, I prefered the open plan look. Will they be having two lots of music too, because if so, I can't see it working...!

I went to the Pink Pounder the other week and from about 11:30pm it was like being in Banus... it was all r'n'b music and I was surrounded by a lot of chavs. I headed to the ladies and was paddling in and out of the lavs.. it was absolutely hiddious! Lots of wires sticking out of the walls too and a terrible dusty floor from all the drilling they must be doing in there no doubt. Why on earth didn't they just close it for 2 weeks or something and get it all done properly instead of opening up at the same time as doing the 'make over'..!?!

Dempsy's.... been there once, had fun and danced in the cage but I have to say it does seem to need a make over doesn't it. I know these things cost a great deal of cash but, it does need it.

I'm not gay but most of my friends are and I love the enviroment, so flamboyant and wonderful. Everytime I go out with them I have an amazing time... so I think we need some nicer, more stylish gay venues!

Im not sure how the two rooms with two different types of music is going to work.. the rooms are very close together.. hopefully its great.. and the atmosphere improves. We have faith in FUEL to make it a club to be proud of :)

I won't deny fuel has it's good points it's the best thing to happen to sheffields gay scene for a while.

We finally have a full time gay venue we wouldn't be ashamed to take our friends to (unlike dempseys) but it has it's bad points in my opinion as anything will.

Take climax for example it's annoys me that you have to be a confident swimmer just to goto the toilet! (they're constantly flooded!)

The point i was making is that you come on here day in day out and big up fuel at every available oppurtunity i can only assume this is because you haven't experienced what else there is out there.
