You only need a Fuel membership card, and they're easy to get. dannyfuel 25-01-2006, 02:48 PM You only need a Fuel membership card, and they're easy to get. Thats not stictly true. Fuel doorstaff ID (passport / driving license) people who appear under 21. I have brought this coversation to the managers attention and he will be checking it out. fuel has an extremely strict policy against under age drinking. :) SpiderPete 25-01-2006, 02:53 PM Yes I have been ID`d a few times going to Fuel, my black and white slate board complete with original chalk birth certificate comes in handy  :P mimicraze 25-01-2006, 03:19 PM heya, going on saturday night with a few people, not been before and I cannot wait, just not sure what to wear?! Whats the music like on sat nights?? If i apply for membership will i get a card before saturday?? nick2 25-01-2006, 04:58 PM Thats not stictly true. Fuel doorstaff ID (passport / driving license) people who appear under 21. I have brought this coversation to the managers attention and he will be checking it out. fuel has an extremely strict policy against under age drinking. :) I'm sure you take every precaution, but underage people have always been able to get into clubs, I did when I was 16/17/18, I was just suggesting that the guy who wanted an under 21's night just goes down and tries to get in, if he looks 21 or over he should have no problem. happysherpa 25-01-2006, 05:23 PM i dont think you will recieve your membership card b4 saturday, but if you tell them at the entrance that you have applied online for membership..they should be ok about it. The guys are pretty laid back.. esp if you look gay =) Ill be out on Friday =P strutting my stuff on the podum.. like a poof lol Also my birthday friday after.. my friends have organised something special..im getting slightly nervous about.. they whisper far to much amongst each other =/ mimicraze 25-01-2006, 05:26 PM well im not exactly a butch laydee so I guess i dont look gay, I sit on the fence ;) there will be 4 of us, 4 women, all waiting on cards except for one. Reckon theyll be cool about it? also what about the outfit dilemna, yes im being very girly about this!! Marber 25-01-2006, 06:26 PM Erm Nick I am deffo a she and unfortunately well past 21!!! The reason I was asking was actually for my son. He does not look over 21 - well I don't think so anyway :) He will be 18 later this year and will just have to wait, it would just be nice for him to have somewhere to go that he feels safe and accepted. SpiderPete 25-01-2006, 06:29 PM If he is 18 I am sure he will get into Fuel, some of the bar men dont even look 18, lol, and as long as he got some ID. Go to Fuel`s website and apply for membership for him online, it dont cost anything. damo 26-01-2006, 12:11 AM Thats all very well and good for those who both drive and hold a passport..... I have neither (reasons stated below) I'm never alllowed to drive due to my poor vision so me thinks that's a drivers licence out the window and i'm terrified of flying and therefore have no need at present for a passport redrobbo 26-01-2006, 12:39 AM .....and i'm terrified of flying and therefore have no need at present for a passport There are ferries to Ireland, France, Spain, Belguim, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and then there is also the Channel Tunnel! You don't have to fly to go abroad. But then again, there is also Fuel to go to instead! nick2 26-01-2006, 10:37 AM You don't have to fly to go abroad. But then again, there is also Fuel to go to instead! It's a difficult decision, a weekend in Paris/Amsterdam/Berlin or a night in Fuel, ooooh, let me think, it's difficult :) Marber 26-01-2006, 11:06 AM Damo if you are a student you can use a student card if not the cinema at centertainment do proof of age passes. You will need your birth certificate and a photo. I think that is all you need, you can ring them and ask. Shazbat 29-01-2006, 02:31 PM Went last night and had a really good time. Haven't been in a club since last May and altho I don't miss clubbing at all (prices appear to have gone thru the roof everywhere!) I enjoyed myself. One of our group got ID'd and she's 31, but she's also quite small. SpiderPete 29-01-2006, 03:09 PM I was busy typin away on this thread and my pc decided to re-boot, so here goes again I am gonna be in Fu-EL on this Friday coming (3rd Feb), some work colleagues and I are off to try and play bowls and then we are off into town (can they cope with us), and no doubt when I am a bit tispy (about 9pm) I will have the urge to go clubbin to Fu-EL, and this Friday it is DISCO INFERNO 70`s theme party, and boy I am up for this, I love 70`s disco music, for me the best era, and I am a bit of a disco bunny, roll on the bee gees et all. Anyone else fancy this or shall I do a meet thread ? If there are 3 peeps coming then a thread will be started. Meaks 29-01-2006, 08:10 PM some work colleagues and I are off to try and play bowls Is that Lawn or Crown Green? :hihi: SpiderPete 29-01-2006, 08:12 PM no its the one where u knock down skittles, :P :P :P :P I havent quite got the lawn/crown green yet :D Rich 29-01-2006, 08:18 PM no its the one where u knock down skittles, :P :P :P :P I havent quite got the lawn/crown green yet :D They're called pins actually, not skittles... :P Hence the name 10 Pin Bowling... SpiderPete 29-01-2006, 08:24 PM I know what they are called, me and Meaks were having what is called gay fun. I loved it when it first opened but it now plays dance music all friday and saturday nights from half 11 which isn't what everyone wants. It gets all the pop out of the way before the place even livens up. I'm looking forward to the new room being opened but until then (or until Rusty comes back on weekends) I'm gonna go elsewhere. skyfitsboy 30-01-2006, 07:32 PM Well I'm getting a big sick of Fuel now. Yeah the music after 11pm really gets on my nerves its just back to back dance/funky house, great if your into that but if you want to dance to 70s/80s/90s stuff and current pop you may as well take ipod with you lol! Hossy 31-01-2006, 04:47 AM Yeah the music after 11pm really gets on my nerves its just back to back dance/funky house, great if your into that but if you want to dance to 70s/80s/90s stuff and current pop you may as well take ipod with you lol! I wouldn't take your iPod - Someone nabbed mine in there the other week... nick2 31-01-2006, 12:25 PM Yeah the music after 11pm really gets on my nerves its just back to back dance/funky house, great if your into that but if you want to dance to 70s/80s/90s stuff and current pop you may as well take ipod with you lol! You can't please everyone, 70's/80's/90's pop makes my bile rise. Hossy 31-01-2006, 02:42 PM SkyFitsBoy I agree, the music in there gets on my nerves... To be honest there should be more of a variety. I don't like the stereotypical gay attitude in there anymore. Just coz you're gay doesn't mean you want to dance to Cher, Kylie, Madonna and Rachel Stevens all night. I went to Limit last night, :hihi: and had an amazing night! isis 02-02-2006, 12:31 AM Off to fuel friday for birthday do, 70's night should be great, anybody welcome to join us all for drinking, dancing and general great night out.Allthough i am not a great lover of 70's music who cares its the people you are out with and the atmosphere that make a good night wherever you go.We are a mixed bunch some gay some straight which is why fuel is going to be a good venue for us. happysherpa 02-02-2006, 01:35 AM Hey its my Birthday on Friday the 10th.. what will be happening at fuel. My friends have organised a BIG surprise.. and im sure we will all end up at Fuel. Look out for me... come give me kisses lol SpiderPete 02-02-2006, 08:34 AM This Friday is 70`s Disco night, look for the large letters on the last page form me, I got carried away. I am hoping to be there providing I am not too tipsy from my bowling eforts and a trip round town  I am looking forward to saturday in there, Freemason is on :) SimonS 03-02-2006, 05:38 PM Some of you Fuelettes as I know you will like to be called might recognise the star of this video.... www.babydeltic.com/video/tiana.wmv I love Sheffield. SimonS 04-02-2006, 01:13 PM BAH! FUEL! The 70's night lasted four songs then it was back to cheese so the "dancers" in bad underpants could dance on the bar and kick our drinks over. AND! One of the bar men ripped me off for £10! SpiderPete 04-02-2006, 01:14 PM oh I am glad I didn`t go then last night.... only 4 songs :o :o Cannot wait for tonight for Freemasons skyfitsboy 04-02-2006, 09:34 PM The carpet in Fuel ate a one pound coin I accidently dropped on it last night!:gag: Be afraid be very AFRAID! What a great voice, I hope Fuel have more Dance/House PA's on rather than pop they are so much better just look at the LSL incident. They did play quite a bit of 70's but they should have played it all night and dropped the current pop and moved on into house music as the norm. But Gayham fufilled his dream of playing peter sutcliffe. Hurray for the carpet going! (however Gaynor is worried about heels sans carpet) BLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEACH happysherpa 09-02-2006, 10:41 PM hope my night at fuel tomoro is a night to remember..Its my birthday =) damo 11-02-2006, 05:55 AM Guess who we found in Fuel last night, Damo, ... Has the music changed at all on the weekends? dannyfuel 22-02-2006, 01:46 PM Hi Guys, Just a note to let you know that our refurbishment is going ahead slowly but surely! we are currently waiting for legal documentation etc. however when all the paperwork has been pushed we will have an awesome venue for you! to allow us time to complete works connected with the refurbishment we will have to close some days over the next few months. this is to allow for flooring to be ripped up, paint and finishes to dry etc etc. therefore we have decided to close monday, tuesday and wednesday nights every week from the 1st of march, until the refurbishment is completed. we apologise for any inconvenience caused and suggest that anyone out on those nights use either lions lair, dempseys or Xcess as an alternative. as i am sure you will agree, this is a small price worth paying for a high quality club with a choice of music styles and atmospheres! take care all :) mossdog 22-02-2006, 05:57 PM more places needed in Sheffield where there are no GOBBY Hallam shtuuudents...Yes? happysherpa 22-02-2006, 07:24 PM lol your suggestion dannyfuel to use dempseys or Xcess as an alternative is a little rude... its the 1st time i have ever heard Fuel promote Dempseys.. im sure they are over the mooon... deepcarsteve 23-02-2006, 09:23 AM Danny can never win. He tries to keep Sheffield Forum guys up to date, and asks for opinions and gets told off for not mentioning other clubs enough. Fuel has a right and should only have to worry about advertising itself. Dempsies, Lions Lair, Climax etc.. all have the ability to post here. For Danny to say try other bars is just to point out that they are other bars and to stop complaints about the closure.. Thank you Danny and keep up the good work.. thanks for bringing Fuel to Sheffield.. SpiderPete 23-02-2006, 01:11 PM posted by happysherpa lol your suggestion dannyfuel to use dempseys or Xcess as an alternative is a little rude... its the 1st time i have ever heard Fuel promote Dempseys.. im sure they are over the mooon... I don`t think its rude at all, he is mearly stating that while Fuel is closed on Mon-->Wed there are other alternatives to go to, would be nice if Sheffield Gay Scene could unite as one. But thats unlikely to happen. Danny does a great job informing this Forum of what is happening, shame Dempseys and Xes don`t keep us upto date on what they are doing, although I am sure they both know about this Forum. Cannot wait for this 2nd room, and new floor should be well kewl. happysherpa 23-02-2006, 06:01 PM well thats told me =) thanx guys..i sometimes need a kicking lol I totally agree with you..that Dempseys and xcess are capable of promoting their venues..but they dont seem to be motivated enough.. which is a shame Im looking forwards to seeing Fuel when the refurbishment is complete. SpiderPete 23-02-2006, 06:46 PM I feel, and this is my opinion, that Xes and Dempseys feel they don`t need to promote themselves as they know they rely on the usual "regulars" turning up. Which is a shame, as I am sure both could do alot better, although Xes does have "Themed Nights" on Fridays, they don`t seem to do much during the rest of the week. I have no idea what Dempseys does anymore, not been for ages, I tried to contact them, but they haven`t replied. 367squadron 01-03-2006, 10:11 PM Hi Guys, Just a note to let you know that our refurbishment is going ahead slowly but surely! we are currently waiting for legal documentation etc. however when all the paperwork has been pushed we will have an awesome venue for you! to allow us time to complete works connected with the refurbishment we will have to close some days over the next few months. this is to allow for flooring to be ripped up, paint and finishes to dry etc etc. therefore we have decided to close monday, tuesday and wednesday nights every week from the 1st of march, until the refurbishment is completed. we apologise for any inconvenience caused and suggest that anyone out on those nights use either lions lair, dempseys or Xcess as an alternative. as i am sure you will agree, this is a small price worth paying for a high quality club with a choice of music styles and atmospheres! take care all :) Hopefully goin to Fuel tomorrow for my birthday, is it definetly open?? Thank you ole1 01-04-2006, 11:07 PM I think it depends how busy they are and how gay you look. I've been a few times on forum meets and we've usually managed to get in ok. Not sure how late you can get in though. SpiderPete 02-04-2006, 04:17 AM I'm thinking about goin to Fuel tonight, but I'm not a member...can I just sign up on the door? Is it much hassle? What time do they stop letting people in? Thank you Yes you can sign in on the door, it cost a few quid, on thier website you can join for free. We were in their tonight, and must say Angie brown was brrrrrrrrrrrriilll. nick2 02-04-2006, 12:46 PM I think it depends how busy they are and how gay you look. Expect grief from the B-list drag acts on the door if you don't look gay enough. SpiderPete 02-04-2006, 12:49 PM Well was in there last night, had a fab time, lovely to see the A-List drag acts on the door, they, as always, looked fab........... Angie Brown was FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABBBBBBBBBBBBB as well, she went down a storm, I managed to spill some lager on some bloke`s arm :o I couldnt see the black guy who is usually in the toilets, wonder if he has gone :suspect: Meaks 02-04-2006, 01:24 PM Peter, what were you doing lookin for black men in the toilets? :o SpiderPete 02-04-2006, 01:26 PM Peter, what were you doing lookin for black men in the toilets? :o There is always one in, or are you usually too drunk to notice, lol :P :P Meaks 02-04-2006, 01:39 PM Freshen up! bensonhedges 02-04-2006, 03:40 PM I'm confused - is Spiderpete Peter41 in disguise (or drag?). If so, wh'appen? SpiderPete 02-04-2006, 04:19 PM I'm confused - is Spiderpete Peter41 in disguise (or drag?). If so, wh'appen? Yes I am the same person as Peter41, had a name change, its was that time of year........... me drag ...... erm nope, lol. well not while I am sober ;) KookyKoo 02-04-2006, 10:30 PM went to Fuel for the first time last night and LOVED it, had such a brill night, apart from when some lady squared up to me looking for some aggro over a gross- and grossly amusing-misunderstanding! Apart from that, was so much fun, can't wait to come back to Sheff and go again! I'd not been drunk in over 2 months, so my hangover today is hugely enjoyable  SpiderPete 14-04-2006, 03:26 PM Gawd I know how to punish my body .... anyway ... went to Fuel last night with some people.... we had to queue up to get in at 10.30 :o :o it was kinda busy, but expected that, I love Thursdays in there .. had a wicked time. saw Gayham in ....... Left sometime around 1.00ish and decided to go to Xes and that was kinda busy as well, left there at 4.00, and just woke up and I feel :gag: :gag: :gag: I know what I will be doing today...... bugger all :D damo 17-04-2006, 05:34 AM Once again my friends got turned away from fuel for not being members and being straight! I've given it a try quite a few times now and can't say as i like it that much just in sheffield the options are limited so ya have to try every now and then. Maybe it's because i've been spoiled with the worlds biggest gay club (heaven) in london i dunno climaxchick 17-04-2006, 05:38 AM London's biggest gay club is called 'Heaven'? I might think about paying em a visit! Need some entertainment outside of Sheffield!!! tonton_mac 17-04-2006, 09:21 AM Heaven? Christ, you DONT want to go there. Why on earth do you want to go to Fuel anyway? Does it re-affirm your gayness in some way? Everyone in there looks the same, speaks the same and acts the same. Go here instead http://duckie.co.uk "The problem with freedom is that it makes people imitate each other" tonton_mac 17-04-2006, 09:23 AM Gay Shame is the most fun you will ever have... Last year it featured 'twelve spectacular murders' which had twelve people being shot through the head, blood everywhere, people screaming and then they played the Sugababes... SpiderPete 17-04-2006, 12:22 PM Once again my friends got turned away from fuel for not being members and being straight! Oh thats wierd, we were in there last night with a few forum people, and some were straight and not members and they got in..... you could always go to Dempseys or Xes, we do have 3 choices. ;) posted by tonton_mac Everyone in there looks the same, speaks the same and acts the same. Crikey that did make me laugh, what a load of troddle. lol;) damo 17-04-2006, 04:35 PM oops double posted damo 17-04-2006, 04:38 PM I could goto dempseys or xces but i have class! tonton_mac whats wrong with heaven? it's great, huge place, great atmosphere and the departure lounge (vip suite) is v nice too. In fairness you are right on one thing fuel is full of queens who all looks the same ole1 17-04-2006, 04:45 PM Loads of forummers congregate at fuel often... very few are gay. Most do have membership cards tho, you dont have to be gay to get em just fill in the form on their website. About 20 forumers went last night, only about 3 were gay and we all had a good laugh in what is just a very relaxed club free from the usual idiots. About 20 forumers went last night, only about 3 were gay and we all had a good laugh in what is just a very relaxed club free from the usual idiots. Couldn`t have put it better myself, its incredibly relaxed, and no one we take feels intimidated by the place........ but some are not gonna like it ......... but everyone has choices (some wish to moan about it though, maybe they are Climax people :suspect: )............. didn`t realise there was about 20 of us there last night, maybe I had too much to drink. :gag: damo 17-04-2006, 06:42 PM My friends were asked their sexuality and not even given the option of signing up on the door...to me it puts across the wrong image and segregates the gay community even further. Personally i don't completley agree with the term gay bar/club as it should be a place for everyone to be themselves but at the same time i understand why we have them as society as a whole is not that accepting yet Neither I nor my friends have been asked about our sexuality and i've always found the door staff there to be the friendliest in sheff always smilin and up for a laugh, as anyone on this forum so much as seen em scowl? Really cant understand why ur mates got such a bad reception damo... do they have a history of trouble or display any kinda attitude? nick2 18-04-2006, 12:16 AM In fairness you are right on one thing fuel is full of queens who all looks the same Thats "the scene" for you. nick2 18-04-2006, 12:18 AM do they have a history of trouble or display any kinda attitude? like the drag acts on the door would know their personal history, the attitude is more likely the reason, anyone acting "too straight" gets grief. To quote Tracy Turnblad - "Segregation never, integration now." ole1 18-04-2006, 12:31 AM like the drag acts on the door would know their personal history, the attitude is more likely the reason, anyone acting "too straight" gets grief. To quote Tracy Turnblad - "Segregation never, integration now." Do you know/think they got as far as the drag acts on the door? I think its more likely the doormen refused them entry so history is a valid question... i'm sure those fellas have worked other doors too and doormen have a tendency to remember anyone who gives em grief. I'm not sayin thats the case, merely asking. damo 18-04-2006, 01:47 AM they wouldnt know how to cause trouble! lol most of them hardly ever go out in sheffield richynomates 18-04-2006, 02:23 PM Really cant understand why ur mates got such a bad reception damo... do they have a history of trouble or display any kinda attitude? Like you - I managed to get in with three straight friends on Thursday, with no problems whatsoever! I think that Damo is the only person that has trouble trying to enter fuel! Then again - I suspect that this may just answer the question of why he has difficulty in getting in: fuel is everything i hate about the gay scene and as for the clientelle shan't even go there I think it's their 'attitude free' ethos that's to blame there.... damo 18-04-2006, 02:41 PM I think it's their 'attitude free' ethos that's to blame there.... I was allowed in it was my freinds who weren't p.s attitude free? fuel? I think not! Go here instead http://duckie.co.uk "The problem with freedom is that it makes people imitate each other" That is the biggest load of rubbish I have heard in a long time. I work on 'the scene' and know so many different, interesting gay people, from really intelligent students, artisits, DJ's, Policemen, A doctor, Nurses and yes mincing hairdressers. It always amazes me the eclectic mix of people in Fuel, from Chavvy scum to middle class boys. In no way what so ever are they all the same - open your eyes. Shazbat 21-04-2006, 02:01 PM I've enjoyed my nights in Fuel, I'm straight, had no hassle getting in, getting served, or getting out. I'm intrigued by the mirrors in the toilets, though; I'll probably miss them, as I generally use the Powder Room (The Ladies')! spamhead 13-05-2006, 11:05 AM Ha ha ha!!! Yeah, I went to Wembley during the week and it looked like a building site!! LOL orangejim 13-05-2006, 03:37 PM you wouldnt get mirrors like that in straight clubs or in any decent gay clubs so why in fuel. damo 13-05-2006, 04:25 PM just what i was thinking the idea seemed somewhat seedy to me SpiderPete 13-05-2006, 04:45 PM just what i was thinking the idea seemed somewhat seedy to me maybe they are trying to copy what Xes does......... observer 14-05-2006, 01:37 PM This toilet thing really doesnt surprise me, but as a gay man it does make me feel disappointed, and actually a bit embarassed. Why do some gay places have to focus on cheap, dirty sex? From a business point of view they must think that it will bring in more customers. Surely there must be some laws or something about mirrors in toilets, especially ones that are there to deliberately peek at people? happysherpa 14-05-2006, 01:43 PM well guys.. you are ALL right... i checked the mirrors last night.. OMG they are worse than i imagined... i wasnt brave enough to pee in the urinals.. altho, even if i had tried.. i think i would have experienced stage fright. I was a weed and joined the queue for the cubicals lol Fuel has definitly changed from classy..to very very sleeeeeeezy. Altho i dont think... anything we say will change the situation. What does everyone think about the two rooms... my opinion .. not liking it... i really liked the open plan and all the space.. now it seems closterphobic. Think we need a new venue in Sheffield.. something trendy.. what about dempseys lol happysherpa 14-05-2006, 01:47 PM on the other hand... at least we have mirrors over the sinks =o) KAOS 15-05-2006, 02:14 AM There are 2 sets of urinals in the gents toilets so if you are embarrassed about the size of your todger, then use the urinals that aren't under the tilted mirrors. It's really not such a problem is it? There has been great feedback about the toilets in the club and let's face it, you can't please everyone all of the time, but we do our best. Also, it's not all finished yet so on the launch party on 26th, you'll see the finished product and I think you'll love it! Do you work there? The 'size of your todger' isn't an issue, most people just don't want their private bits to be stared at by the more lecherous types when they use the urinals. And the ones with the flat mirror aren't much better. Why are they making Fuel more sleazy? I thought it was supposed to be a trendy place. nick2 15-05-2006, 10:38 AM Why do some gay places have to focus on cheap, dirty sex? From a business point of view they must think that it will bring in more customers. I guess because thats their main purpose in life, a place to meet and get off with someone, once you've got a partner you don't realy need to go to gay clubs anymore. deepcarsteve 15-05-2006, 10:53 AM Well I have a partner but we still like to go out. Think I'll start having to arrange my nights out on a climax night. Don't like idea of mirrors at all. Oh well obviously I'm just not gay enough according to fuel. Gayham 15-05-2006, 03:57 PM What are you all going on about!? They are not finished yet!!! wait till the 26th before you pass judgement! SpiderPete 15-05-2006, 06:35 PM What are you all going on about!? They are not finished yet!!! wait till the 26th before you pass judgement! So are you saying on the 26th the mirrors will go .......... I hope so, I wonder how the str8 men feel about having gay men staring at their todger..... maybe we should all start using the womens toilets ... more privacy there it seems ....... funkymunky 16-05-2006, 02:34 PM I think what gayham means is that there is (if you haven't already noticed) quite a lot left to be done to the club!? So why not wait until the launch date (FRIDAY 26TH MAY) before slating what they have done? I'm sure they have put quite a lot of work into what they are doing! :loopy: nick2 16-05-2006, 05:06 PM I think what gayham means is that there is (if you haven't already noticed) quite a lot left to be done to the club!? I think what you've missed is that people obviously don't like the mirrors and no amount of other changes will get rid of that. funkymunky 16-05-2006, 05:18 PM I think what you've missed is that people obviously don't like the mirrors and no amount of other changes will get rid of that. I can feel it in my old bones. and yeah we are a crazy bunch Gayham....... :hihi: I`ve deleted a full paragraph out about the toilets as i`ve not seen "the finished product" so I shall save my comemnts until that day. PS - I want to know where have al the gay peeps just come from on this thread ...... nice to get more input about Sheffield scene etc etc blah blah jamesogt 18-05-2006, 12:36 PM I have been a few times recently and more when it first opened and imo i think it has got a lot worse than when it first started. The prices have increased quite dramatically once they had a decent crowd in, now £6 after 11. We went last Friday the music selection was ok but the DJ ing was at best awful, there was no mixing as such and could probably have been done by somebody with 2 cassestte tape players! I am not sure what happened to the old drag queen DJ (Rusty) i think? but she was ok, the one last week whether we are not meant to be able to tell the difference? was horrendous, i would rather have a DJ hired because of their abilities not the dresses and make up they wear! As for the toilets they have obviously been down to xes and copied them, it does not help gay image when open minded stright people do visit venues like this and find things as stereo typical as the mirrors, unfortunately all this does is confirm gay stereotypes and show that all we are interested in is d1ck,which though true for some people, I do not all believe it is necessary to act like Graham Norton and dress like Julian Clary just because u r gay. Unfortuantely Fuel has obviously decided under the new management that seedier is better, all i can suggest is that they spend a few nights in Manchester and see that nice none seedy gay bars can not only survive but do well. I would now rather spend £15 on a train ticket and pay £6 somewhere it is worth paying to go in to and come home at 11.30 than spend another 'average' night in Sheffield for a few quid less. What Sheffield needs is quality Gay or gay friendly venues that don't feel the need to completely take over a community and then slowly eek up prices after draining the venues around them, I just hope that places like Dempseys and xes continue to survive so as people aren't forced in to one place. observer 18-05-2006, 12:43 PM Well said jamesogt ! Agree with you completely funkymunky 18-05-2006, 12:47 PM Well I think we should all just wait until it's finished before we comment to be fair! I think the amount of entertainment they put on compared to anywhere else is incomparible really. The only place's I've seen spend so much money on entertainment are places like Federation!!! So if you do truly want to get ripped off try paying £4 for a bottle of Smirnoff Ice like I did last time I went to Federation!!! Is anybody going down to fuel tonight? I'm going down with a load of mates I wanna see what else they have changed!! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: funkymunky 18-05-2006, 04:58 PM I am not sure what happened to the old drag queen DJ (Rusty) i think? but she was ok, the one last week whether we are not meant to be able to tell the difference? was horrendous, i would rather have a DJ hired because of their abilities not the dresses and make up they wear! you know I never even noticed the difference? I thought the music sounded exactly like Rusty's(the thurs night dj)??? And the drag dj has been on at weekends for quite a few weeks now??? :loopy: Oh well maybe you think you can do a better job.....why don't you apply for the position? lol :gag: :gag: :gag: jamesogt 18-05-2006, 06:03 PM i dont claim to be a DJ, i have heard DJ's from around the world in different cities and am stating an opinion that this particular DJ is not good by anybodys standard. And i am surprised that you or others haven't noticed as far as i am aware mixing is a basic DJ skill. Just beacause she has been there a few weeks doesn't mean that she is good it probably just means they haven't found anybody else. Unfortunately in all jobs there are people that aren't good at their chosen profession and i am suggesting that she is one, not that i personally could do better but a nightclub that employs her should notice as that is their business. markpark 18-05-2006, 06:08 PM can i just say that musically the main room at fuel @ the re-lauch and therafter will be equally on a par with the leeds and manchester scene's and quite cutting edge !!!!! This is a website designed for sharing opinions and that is what I am doing. As far as I am aware that is not the only type of music played at fuel currently and it also plays commercial dance and house that can easily be mixed from what i have heard elsewhere and it isn't done by the current dj, relating that to what it will be in the future is irrelevant, i am stating an opinion on the 'current' DJ. Thanks ;) funkymunky 18-05-2006, 09:40 PM I actually have quite a lot of close friends at fuel and don't like the way that a certain click enjoy slating them. As you said this is a site for opinions and I'm asserting mine!  SpiderPete 18-05-2006, 09:46 PM To be honest I dont find the music a problem, after all when you have had a few pints you dance to anything, and its certainly more upto date than some places on the music........... best solution ....... if you dont like the music .......... don`t go ........ simple as that discodown 18-05-2006, 09:50 PM i want to dj at fuel. how do i go about getting a set? When Fuel first opened last year I thought it was great - regular entertainers, good music, cheaper entrance, generally quite trendy. Recently I think it has gone downhill, and hope that after the relaunch (which will no doubt be very spectacular) the same doesn't happen again. sparkymalark 19-05-2006, 11:35 AM Why do you think its gone down hill? It's the same price as any city club £6 hardly breaks the bank and no other club has entertainers on. I love the fact that Fuel has regular entertainers you end up getting to know them...Gayham is my favourite, he is such a freak, but hilarious! I really dont like the negativity that prevails these forums. I only joined recently to air and share opinions but it looks like you are all just arguing about something that really is not worth while, perhaps you should put your passion, arguments and words into something worthwhile like homophobia, the AIDS crisis or I dont bloody know animal rights! Not winge on about some club that you probably visit once a month! happysherpa 19-05-2006, 11:54 AM everyone as their own opinions... sparkymalark, your opinions are positive and so are many other peoples... the negative response are obviously from people who arnt that interested in going to fuel anyway..therefore, im sure they will get fed up and find some other places to go. Couldn`t agree more, has anyone else noticed the ones complaining/winging most are Climax people, as on the Fuel vs Climax poll, you can see who voted for who.......... or maybe its just me who notice this :suspect: I don`t think Fuel has gone downhill at all, yes the price of drinks have gone up, but thats not exactly gonna break the bank. Its certainly a better place than any other gay venue, and we do get artists on as well, which I imagine dont come free to Fuel............ As I also mentioed before, if you don`t want to pay £6, get in before 11pm, then its only £4.......... or if thats not good enough for you, then don`t bother going .......... simple really isn`t it..... Peaches 19-05-2006, 07:56 PM To be honest I dont find the music a problem, after all when you have had a few pints you dance to anything, Speak for yourself. happysherpa 19-05-2006, 09:13 PM im off to climax tonight... its been along time sice i went.. because fuel as taken over my clubbing life. Time for a change funkymunky 19-05-2006, 09:21 PM Has anybody seen the new DJ box at fuel?? It's proper immense!!!! happysherpa 19-05-2006, 09:22 PM immense... in what sense??? funkymunky 19-05-2006, 09:25 PM It's just huge!! Looks really good was talking to carlton the designer last night and he's said it's going to be white when it's done can't wait to see it finished! It's a very dominant feature of the club now! :P SpiderPete 19-05-2006, 09:26 PM immense... in what sense??? immense = marked by greatness especially in size or degree well that could mean anything, depends how dirty ya mind is, LOL :P but I would imagine its big :o  happysherpa 19-05-2006, 10:14 PM big is always better.. not sure about white tho... my experience with white is very 'little' lol now 'BLACK' .. you never go back!!! damo 20-05-2006, 12:04 AM Couldn`t agree more, has anyone else noticed the ones complaining/winging most are Climax people, as on the Fuel vs Climax poll, you can see who voted for who.......... or maybe its just me who notice this :suspect: Different people like different things FACT! some people may prefer the cheese and general campness of climax and some may prefer the kind of night that fuel puts on. I don't prefer either to be quite honest i'm an all rounder but after all the times i've been to fuel i've never found a can enjoy myself like i have elsewhere e.g heaven (london) g-a-y (london) fibre (leeds) queens court (leeds) NG1 (nottingham) for example. But you can't say i havent tried i've been to fuel many times now and each time i've been disappointed so to imply i'm biased is wrong spiderpete as i'm not dannyfuel 20-05-2006, 06:11 PM It has been a long time since I have posted on here, but I have been keeping up with everything that you have all been saying. What a read Sheffield forum is! lol. On behalf of fuel, I would like the opportunity to wipe the slate clean with all of you. We opened a club with very little money in a very tatty old venue that wasn't ideal for what we wanted. We have tried to make the best of it but have faced various setbacks and have made our fair share of mistakes. Mistakes that have been made because we have continually strived to improve and change, some changes have been good and some haven't. We will make loads more mistakes and we will make loads more improvements because we are dead set on getting fuel spot on. Anyway, we are now in a position to open a venue that will be second to none and cannot wait to do so. Thanks to your support, we have been able to invest the money you have spent with us back in, and relaunch a completely different club this Friday 26th May. We appreciate all of the things you have slagged us off for or commented on and want to assure all of you that we take everything seriously and will do something about all of our short comings as soon as we possibly can. For instance the mirrors in the gents, this was meant to be a tounge in cheek bit of fun, not a sleaze pit, but we appreciate all of your feedback. We understand it has been taken that way and are adjusting things accordingly. I could list various things but there is no point because it will all be a completely different story by friday. And yes, I am sure there will be plenty of faults with the new club but we will continue to strive towards our goal of getting the club spot on and we will sort those problems too. We genuinely want to make a good job of our venue and we want to contribute towards making Sheffield's gay scene better. It doesn't seem that it is very often that someone has succeeded in doing this in Sheffield before, and if you take this forum as an example of opinions in Sheffield then to be honest it isn't a surprise. It is a daunting challenge trying to please you guys. But we are up to that challenge and want to do as well as we can for you, and for us. So how about we all start again with the new venue and you give us a break and a chance to prove that we are going to make an effort for you and we are going to provide you a quality, community-minded club with excellent services? I know we won't please all of you but I hope that you will see that we are trying and we are genuine. To get the ball rolling I want to make you all an offer.... I am asking our office manager to contact all of the people that have been in the recent debate on here to offer them VIP entry to our launch party. We are not to trying to buy you or any other sinister idea that someone may come up with. We want to say thank you for those of you that have supported us, as well as give those that haven't had a good experience with us before the chance to try us again for free to see if we can do better this time round. We look forward to showing you what we are really about. A final thought... We are always responsive to constructive critiscm so please let us have it directly so we can change things for the better. Call 0114 2753999 or email info@fuel-sheffield.co.uk It doesn't matter what it is about or how trivial the issue may be, we need your feedback to improve. We will take it seriously if you give us the chance to. Thanks for taking the time to read. I hope to see you all on Friday. bensonhedges 20-05-2006, 06:38 PM Nice post Danny! I like Fuel a lot. You will never be all things to all (wo)men - just keep doing what you are doing and I'm sure the majority will be pleased. djscottk 20-05-2006, 06:59 PM can i just say that musically the main room at fuel @ the re-lauch and therafter will be equally on a par with the leeds and manchester scene's and quite cutting edge !!!!! I've been on a couple of occasions, and enjoyed myself, and enjoyed the general atmosphere, but haven't been more often because it's a real struggle using sticks, rather than my chair. ( I was under the impression that you were going to ramp the top end of the "verandeh" towards the roundabout?) I'm not criticising, ducks, just trying to chase it up. I think you've done well with the premises you had, and what you had to work with at the time. however, I can't enjoy the club as I'd like and that's a disappointment to me, and lost revenue/custom for yourselves. PT 367squadron 21-05-2006, 02:07 AM Good luck Danny! I loved fuel before the improvements but i am very excited to see it all finished! Good Luck, mister. happysherpa 21-05-2006, 12:56 PM well thanx danny... for taking the time to please us guys.. we are difficult..but worth it lol Put me down as VIP lol susannamia 21-05-2006, 02:24 PM Fuel is the best thing to have hit sheffield since the arrival of H & M and cetainly the best thing ever to have hit the sheffield gay scene. We should be grateful that a forward thinking, intelligent, creative and inspirational group of people want to develop the pitiful scene we had here pre-fuel. We should be admiring their work, their dedication to their customers and their communication with those they are trying to please. have you ever had any interaction with the brains behind the leadmill, or gatecrasher.... or even climax. Carlton, Pete, Danny and others are regularly in Fuel listening to what people have to say, there and then, watching people's reactions and responding to what the gay scene of sheffield project that they want. Above all, they CARE and are not doing this to make money. Unlike any other club in England (that i have been to), Fuel is a welcoming family of diverse individuls who all have one thing in common... and it is not, believe it or not, being GAY. It is the univeral unconditional acceptance of others regardless of sexual orientation, race, sex, social status, fiancial status, age, disability.... Fuel represents a philosophy and that is what so many of you are missing. It is a philosophy of freedom and respect. Fuel have made something pretty remarkable from a seriously knackered club called purple, berlins, whatever...and have done this extremely well. they are continuing to develop and expand inside and outside. Think we need a new venue in Sheffield.. something trendy.. what about dempseys lol Hi Happy! I have to agree totally about Fuel. I first went in December and had a wicked time. Not liking it half as much now and definitely think it's turning sleeeeeeezy too. The two room thingy they have going on is awful too, I prefered the open plan look. Will they be having two lots of music too, because if so, I can't see it working...! I went to the Pink Pounder the other week and from about 11:30pm it was like being in Banus... it was all r'n'b music and I was surrounded by a lot of chavs. I headed to the ladies and was paddling in and out of the lavs.. it was absolutely hiddious! Lots of wires sticking out of the walls too and a terrible dusty floor from all the drilling they must be doing in there no doubt. Why on earth didn't they just close it for 2 weeks or something and get it all done properly instead of opening up at the same time as doing the 'make over'..!?! Dempsy's.... been there once, had fun and danced in the cage but I have to say it does seem to need a make over doesn't it. I know these things cost a great deal of cash but, it does need it. I'm not gay but most of my friends are and I love the enviroment, so flamboyant and wonderful. I won't deny fuel has it's good points it's the best thing to happen to sheffields gay scene for a while. We finally have a full time gay venue we wouldn't be ashamed to take our friends to (unlike dempseys) but it has it's bad points in my opinion as anything will. Take climax for example it's annoys me that you have to be a confident swimmer just to goto the toilet! (they're constantly flooded!) The point i was making is that you come on here day in day out and big up fuel at every available oppurtunity i can only assume this is because you haven't experienced what else there is out there. djscottk 23-05-2006, 02:56 AM  every single post you reply to your either negative, derogatory or sarcastic!!??? if you have nothing constructive to say go to another thread cause your boring!! :loopy: :loopy: :loopy: yes shaHbaz, take heed. hehe:thumbsup: You are viewing an archive.
