redrobbo 12-09-2005, 12:11 AM Well the Lloyds forum meet on Sat night (10 Sep) was a low-key affair. EvilDrNeil had to leave earlyish, but the rest of the gang (Andy, BoroughGal, Kristian, redrobbo, Sian and Suprasteve) then went on down to Fuel, where we bumped into Meaks.
What a fab night it was! BoroughGal's blues soon disappeared, and how we all partied! I nominate Sian as the forum boogie girl!
Glad to see that dannyfuel is going to instal air conditioning. I was coated in sweat after all that dancing.
Fuel is a welcome (and long overdue) addition to Sheffield's gay scene. Those Fuel guys have a great place, which has already imprinted itself on Sheffield in a short space of time. Well done Danny & all the guys at Fuel!

Well said Red.
That said, I forgot to mention that I was terrified of the stilt-walker dressed as a devi! :o I'm sure the man in the mask is a really nice guy, but if I don't see that mask for ten years it will be too soon! ;)

HazyJane 12-09-2005, 01:27 PM I really ought to post more on here and get out sometimes. I'm not much of a party animal but it sounds like I missed out on a good night on the 3rd. I'm aquainted with one of Uniting Nations too, but didn't know they were coming here.
Has anyone been to cabaret night yet? I'm hopefully going to get off my backside and try it out next week.
mattyuk1 13-09-2005, 12:09 AM a gay bar sounds good, manchesters gay night life is wicked me and my girlfriend had a good night there.

That was a concern I had, but have seen no trouble at all so far, and I've been five or six times so far.
In addition, they have plenty of mean looking (but very nice!) doormen, so I think we're safe enough! :)

They may have one more if the T&C's and pay is alright ;)
I've been told to expect a call (or so I'm led to believe by one of the Door Ladies :suspect: )

Ooh Deej, that would be ace! A friendly face to hold me up and put me in a cab; what more could the forummers ask for? ;)

Well that isn't in the job description I'm told but Im always willing to assist the needy :P
Gayham 13-09-2005, 12:35 AM It's funny, I was stood outside on friday and some 'meatheads' walked past but they didn't shout abuse or anything, in fact I think they are either interested or simply don't know what to make of it! I have been away from Sheffield for ages and have just come back, it feels like the gays have a face now! From what I saw the doorstaff are really on the ball and know who and who not to let in. Still waiting on the Lame Catsuit Danny, hope it can be here for friday! (people think I'm joking) BEAST!
anabel 13-09-2005, 02:34 PM As a straight girl, just wandering in off the street on my way to razor stiletto. I had a fabulous time. no hangups, no attitude, plenty of room to dance and no funny looks from either (any) orientation. a Great Gay Club i have to say and i was late meeting my friends in Razor cos i didn't want to leave.
dannyfuel 14-09-2005, 12:50 AM i have to say that all of us here read sheffield forum everyday now and use it as customer feedback.
we are all really delighted that you guys like the club and thank you all loads for the support!!
gayham - if no lame then u'll have to think of something else!
i am not letting you get away with it! x

jamesbuk30 14-09-2005, 11:41 AM hey hello all, I have been living in sheffield for last 6 months (moved from brum), aree there any gay social groups within the area?
I am looking to make new friends here and increase my social activities.
Thank you !;) :)
SpiderPete 14-09-2005, 11:48 AM Hiya jamesbuk30 and welcome to the Forum
There is 2 social groups in Sheffield, one is done by the Uni and another I know of is on a Thursday, I can find out more info for you, I know the ones who look after the Thursday one.
Or you could join us on our meets that we do to Fuel, some are planned others are spontanious, if you likes clubbing then Fuel is the place to be.
or there is the Sunday meet in the Dev Cat which has a mixed attendance.
In time you will know which ones bat on our side.
[edit] or you can go to this website and download the magazine which is available in the gay pubs and in their classifield section is a list of social groups
Shout Magazine (http://www.shoutweb.co.uk/)
jamesbuk30 14-09-2005, 02:00 PM HEY HELLO and thnaks for the information! Really helpful- would be interested in joining the social group of Thursdays can u help?
ALSO interested in going to Devonshire cat on a suday - pretty close to where i am staying in sheffield
once again, thanks!
ps can anyone let mek now what CLIMAX is like?
SpiderPete 14-09-2005, 02:11 PM I have PM`ed you with more info, you cannot PM back until you do 5 posts, so best go post in something, lol
There is a Dev Cat thread meet in "Going out in Sheffield" then "Notice & Events"
graffy 14-09-2005, 02:17 PM Welcome in Sheffield, i've been here 4 years now and really enjoy it, and now that we have a proper scene coming on (fuel has brought something nice and fresh), all the more so to stay here and not go back to Paris!!
Well Climax is ok i suppose. I have usually had a very nice time over there. It is very studenty and the music is a bit repetitive though. Drinks are cheap too.
Have fun:thumbsup:
jamesbuk30 14-09-2005, 02:20 PM thnak you guys for your help - its appreciated! it sounds as though FUEL is the place to be from what i can gather
what is yr opion of weekday nights in FUEL are they any good?
Cheers!
SpiderPete 14-09-2005, 06:38 PM I am 99.91% popping over to Fuel later tonight to see what is like on a Wednesday..... a spur of the moment thing ... anyone fancy coming along ?
I am going after the Sola meet
mjk001 14-09-2005, 06:57 PM unfortunately I cant go out tonight as I have a job interview tomorrow. Eek!

HazyJane 14-09-2005, 10:01 PM I'm currently rounding up a few people to come to cabaret night next week! Can't wait!
redrobbo 15-09-2005, 02:53 AM I have a really heavy workload for the remainder of this month, but once October arrives, I'd certainly be interested in joining peter41, et al, for a midweek Fuel forum meet. In fact, can't wait.....roll on October! :partyhat:

SpiderPete 15-09-2005, 12:48 PM Oh forgot to mention, I went to Fuel last night (Wednesday) after the Sola meet, and I was amazed how good it was for a Wednesday, I am not a big fan of karaoke but some good singers there.
Even met 4 friends there who normally dont go out on Wednesdays and even one of them was singing:o
It well worth a visit there on wed, shame Danny wasnt there.
sugarnspice 15-09-2005, 12:51 PM What's it like on a Thursday Peter?
SpiderPete 15-09-2005, 01:01 PM As yet SugarNS I have not done a Thursday, I am doing all the days in a week,
So far done Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday.
From the flyers Thursday is Pink Pounder and all bottles, spirits & pints are £1. ooooooo thats is soooooo tempting.
£4 for members, no idea what guests pay, but at £1 a pint, you cannot grumble.
Meaks 15-09-2005, 01:32 PM Anyone going on Saturday?

Hi James,
i would be interested in finding out about this too!
i have looked in gay times etc and have had no joy.
if you find anything please let me know.
if not, perhaps we should look at setting one up?
none scene meet ups can be cool.
cheers

skyfitsboy 16-09-2005, 02:03 PM Whats it going to be tonight Climax or Fuel, be interesting to see which one most people go to tonight.
Im going to Climax mainly because Im skint and the drinks are cheaper!:D
Think it will be quite quiet though as most of the students aren't back in the city yet, but that means more room for me on the dancefloor and at the bar:clap:
SpiderPete 16-09-2005, 02:05 PM Climax or Fuel
I was thinking of this today, wondering which would do better, I am sat here deciding which one to go to, not an easy descision.
[added this bit] dont forget this either Fuel on Monday Meet (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59950)
karl2784 16-09-2005, 05:43 PM I think we're going to climax... mainly cos some of us haven't tried Fuel yet and we want a good fun cheap night.
was thinking earlier which would be more popular and whether its coming towards the end for Climax?! thoughts on this...?
:)
SpiderPete 16-09-2005, 05:47 PM I dont think Climax will go, it is a cheap place for drinks and will appeal to the student end of the market.
Saying that Fuel isnt that expensive, I expected it to be a bit more, but anyway we shouldnt judge tonight`s climax on what will happen, as alot of students are not back yet.
I prolly going to Fuel tonight, Climax isnt my thing, but each to their own, but isnt it nice to have a choice now.
karl2784 16-09-2005, 05:51 PM Yea - I guess your right, although a lot of people do seem to prefer Fuel these days. Climax seems to be a place where evryone knows and with it only been once a month it might still keep that appeal about it.
haven said that - a few people I know have become fed up of it, its the same night each month. reckon they should do theme nights once in a while....
sugarnspice 17-09-2005, 03:22 PM Did anyone go last night? Got the text message about them giving away booze and got excited. Then I checked my purse.
:(
Then I saw my make-up free, tired pasty face in the mirror.
:(
And didn't go. :(
skyfitsboy 17-09-2005, 04:13 PM Went to Climax last night it wasnt packed but alot busier than I was expecting considering all the students aren't back and the lure of Fuel.
Music was definitely better different DJ than it usually is, The Killers and Razorlight got played, fab!
Climax hopefully pulling their socks up abit, more live PAs lined up, Rozalla next month lol! and DJs from Speed Queen spinning the discs, love the knock-on effect Fuel is having on the other gay venues noticed posters up last night advertising the D-Factor at Dempseys, whats that all about lol!:hihi:

Dempseys are advertising allsorts, happy hour on friday/saturdays at 11.00, they must be suffering now, lol.
Roebuck is the pub to be pre-Fuel
Just remembered - I bumped into Robbie_Lovin again late last night, keep doing this dont we ;)

nick2 17-09-2005, 08:34 PM I was on the verge of going in on Friday night, but just as we got to the door they started palying "I think I'm alone now" by Tiffany, so I changed my mind.

BoroughGal 17-09-2005, 09:19 PM DANNY....
Just a thought, but have you considered putting the weeks events at Fuel in the Sheffield Star's "What's On" guide? I *think* it's free, you just send your listings to whats.on@sheffieldnewspapers.co.uk or fax them on 01142725978.
I think people do tend to look through these listings....?
Hows the air conditioning coming on? Should I bother straightening my fringe for Monday? ;)

all be honest. I know a fair few people who have ben and when I ask what the music is like it sounds like a bad nightmare. Sounds like a mix of Reflex and Flares :gag: :gag:
I'm more than happy to go to gay bars but not gay bars with chessy music of death.
Plus, almost everyone I know who has been are straight :suspect:

the Roebuck is never the place to be EVER :D
SpiderPete 17-09-2005, 09:57 PM Gosh Robbie, so many faults with ya last post, lol
chessy music = gay people
I am sure we dont want to hear Def Lepard or Cilla Black being played.
the Roebuck = erm yes, lol, it was packed on Friday, and most were going to Fuel
Plus, almost everyone I know who has been are straight = OMG i must have turned str8, lol, maybe you dont know many gay people then.
Oh one last point - have you been yet Robbie ?;)
HazyJane 17-09-2005, 10:19 PM I got my membership through the post this morning, yay!
I can't wait to go, the music sounds like class to me!
Just as long as they don't speed it up, over a banging beat, like at GAY. ugh!
robbie 17-09-2005, 10:20 PM did you partake in the kareoke on friday Peter?
It is always quite comical in there.
and I should have said people not on here.
I haven't been and I'm unlikely to (although I say the same about reflex and flairs and I've been to both in the last month) so who knows.
and straight equals cheese as well to the same extent.
If I ever here cilla black played anywhere I hope to die quickly :D
btw, how big is it inside. I never went when it was Purple but I don't remember it being that big when it was Berlins (and it is still probably playing the same music;) )
PINGU 17-09-2005, 11:14 PM I went to Fuel on Friday, and yes, the music was cheesy. I asked the 'star' DJ Dan, about some of his musical choices and he said he was playing what the crowd wanted. Not sure if he asked everybody else what they wanted, but he didn't ask me. Not fair that.
Other musical delights included the Honeyzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzz zzzzz. Why do we have to have these has beens anyway? I would have thought we learned our lesson when Sonia appeared at Fairy Likuid, or was it Poptastic at City Hall and my lesbian friend tried to give her a rose on stage much to the bouncers and my dismay. Touching but unnecessary.
I accept that the gay scene by it's very nature, brings with it a certain amount of cheese. But strong cheese in small amounts must be the rule. And given the choice, fresh cheese please, not bloody Tiffany again. It's just not funny anymore.
It was my first Fuel, and not my last. I just hope that it doesn't become stale, look how quickly Dempseys has been deserted. Very stale place.
I know you can't please all of the people all of the time.
HazyJane 17-09-2005, 11:26 PM Oh of course, the Honeyz were there on Friday. I didn't even know they were still going.
There's plenty of top quality pop music out there, without having to resort to playing cheesy old stuff all the time. Trouble is, it's done as irony these days.
I've emailed Danny asking if they'd be interested in booking Sammy Jo, the Scissor Sisters tour DJ at the some point. He'd be perfect for there!

The inside is fairly spread and will hold 600. As for the music, Its a mixture between pop and dance.. I found myself tapping my foot to the beats and singing along (quietly I admit) while working there tonight..
Most of all I enjoyed tonight and will no doubt be helping out again :D
dannyfuel 18-09-2005, 01:23 PM hello again peeps,

SpiderPete 18-09-2005, 01:28 PM Danny - there is nothing wrong with the music or the PA`s, I dont even remember the last gay place in Sheffield that did PA`s beside yourselves.
I will have the list to you at 6.00 tonight, always get some late ones come along, dont want them to miss out.

I've not been yet, but as your club is so successful you've been able to open a second branch, you must be doing a lot right.
My suggestion of booking Sammy Jo was for my own selfish pleasure, but from what I've seen on your site, he'd be perfect.
However, if you're taking requests, do you reckon if we have a whip round we'll raise enough to book Scissor Sisters too?

funkypants 18-09-2005, 09:50 PM Hi Danny! Rachel from that 70's show(crap clue but you'll get it)
Had a fantastic night the other week and hope your customers enjoyed the show we put on (very drunk). Congrats and well done! To answer the question from some members about why other bars do not cater to Shefields gay population I'm from one of those bars and we've been planning a night for months. This got put on hold when we heard about Fuel so that we could take learnings and hopefully work with these guys.
The problem with some ''mainstream'' bars is that they're scared that they'll ''scare off'' regular customers which is exactly the sad, outdated idea we need to lose in Sheffield!
I love bars that EVERYONE can go to, places where I can go with my 18 year old friends and also my 40 and 50 year old friends which is exactly why I'm back next week Danny! Hope to speak to you then as I haven't forgotten my promise about freshers, hjope you've got a lot of fliers in stock!!!

Hiya - I've been on a Monday, it's a brilliant night and great fun. It's not as packed as the weekend, obviously, but it's comfortable, and I don't think it'll be too long before it IS getting packed on a Monday.
I highly recommend it.
jamesbuk30 20-09-2005, 10:50 AM went to FUEL last night and was impressed, really quite busy for a Monday.
Its great that sheffield has at last got a decent gay place to go to.
dannyfuel 20-09-2005, 12:29 PM Hi Guys,
glad you all like mondays!
rusty and gavinia's caberet show is our biggest weekday night in Hull and we hope you will like it as much over here.
i hope you all had a good time at the forum meet last night!
hello funkypants - i am afraid i am struggling to get flyers done in time - i am crap i know!
re our music policy - we are trying to put two rooms of music into one room (funky room + cheesy room) so we start off chessy and end up funky.
we hope to get our second room sorted asap so we can keep you all happy!
re - scissor sisters - i would love to get them but i feel it would have to be very big whip round! ;)
catch you all later!

Avalon 02-10-2005, 09:46 AM Went to Fuel on Friday night for the first time! Twas good, but im not sure about "Twiggy", the guy dressed as a chamber maid and a chap dressed as a camp butler?? That was a little odd!
Gayham 02-10-2005, 05:10 PM I think thats the point though...oddness

If so they made it a little too well for my taste, but hey, some people seemed to enjoy their compnay!
Notorious 02-10-2005, 09:22 PM I'm not into it personally, but I think there will be a bit of gay bashing going on at spilling out time.
Come on though, I've got an open mind, but gayness is not normal
Exit only if you catch my drift

I do get your drift. However, "Ive got an open mind" and "Gayness is not normal" kind of contradict each other dont you think?
EDIT: Also i didnt see any "Gay bashing" going on
SWFC00 03-10-2005, 11:29 PM What's this Fuel club like, any good? I'm hetro but always up for a laugh & would like to see what a "gay friendly" club is like.
What type of music & what's the atmos like etc?

Atmosphere is one of relaxedness (is that a word??) the music is right my taste, cheesy pop type stuff... its good...but a word to the wise, be aware it is a GAY nightclub, and you are likely to get a person of the same sex pulling you! lol! ;)
lilemma22 04-10-2005, 11:21 AM I have been to fuel every weekend now for about a month and i must say its fantastic, its the only place in town u can dance to the likes of Britney n S club hehe. A well good night out Highly Recommended
SWFC00 04-10-2005, 01:50 PM Doesn't really sound like my kinda place :suspect:
Oh well never mind.....
nick2 04-10-2005, 01:55 PM Do they have a night when they play proper dance music, or something other than "gay" records ?

....Its a GAY club?
skyfitsboy 04-10-2005, 02:25 PM Think you have raised a good point nick2.
I'm probably going to get shot for saying this but one of the reasons I love HOMO at Mission in Leeds so much is that it is a gay night which isnt overloaded with gay/camp music or drag queens and orange skinny boy dancers thrusting in your face everywhere you turn.:hihi:
Basically it's just like being in a straight night club but the difference being the majority of people inside are gay, perfect IMO!
lilemma22 04-10-2005, 03:19 PM Originally posted by nick2

Yeah they play dance afta 12
Meaks 04-10-2005, 03:49 PM I think the upstairs room (when opened) will be more dance orientated for those who tire of the likes of '9 to 5'. :)
... and Rolf Harris!
I now can't stop the wife singing 'The Court of King Caractacus' when she's had a few. :help:
skyfitsboy 04-10-2005, 04:02 PM What?! There is an upstair's room opening?!!
Meaks 04-10-2005, 08:01 PM Well there is a 'second' room supposed to be opening, they are just waiting for the licensing people now I think.
I always just assumed it would be upstairs...

Mattnite 05-10-2005, 04:56 PM Do you all leave at 11.30 or something? They play good old dance/house towards the end of the night. Last Friday was wicked a really good PA from Angie Brown and some good old school 90's house tunes. I think they have the mix just right pop early evening and house at the end..but then I suppose the mincers go home when proper music comes on....heheheh
nick2 05-10-2005, 05:03 PM I suppose I could turn-up at 11:30 and avoid the Madonna-fest.

Mattnite 07-10-2005, 12:24 AM Madonna fest? and what wrong with Madge? Although I have only ever heard them play one Madonna tune all night...so I would hardly call it a fest....now Girls Aloud on the other hand......

rich_sheff 07-10-2005, 12:36 PM Loving Fuel....having some wicked nights out... Only question is why can we not get tap water!?! (By the way I like to get drunk first!) I don't mind buying a bottle of water but at 1.90 its a rip off...come on! Especially when its the same on a pink pounder night :(
Otherwise thumbs up
dannyfuel 08-10-2005, 02:24 PM Hi Guys,
here i am to answer your questions again. we are all really glad that you like fuel so much, it is amazing to get so much support!
music policy
our team prefers funky house and in hull we have a cheese room and a funky room.
as we currently only have the one room in sheffield we have to mix it.
cheese till 11.30 / 12 - classics to mix in with and then funky from 12/12.30.
this will change as soon as we get the chance!!
water
sorry guys we don't do glasses of tap water as people have taken the p*ss with it. cheapskates that come in b4 10 for free and DEMAND free water all night.
i agree that the price of bottles needs to change especially on thursdays and i will bring it up with the manager.
if there is owt else please just ask.
take care and see u all in fuel soon
hugs
danny

skyfitsboy 09-10-2005, 06:10 AM Who was that gorgeous rugby player guy dancing on the bar tonight in the blue shorts, he was gorgeous I want his number lol!!
lilemma22 10-10-2005, 04:35 PM I wo in fuel Saturday night and Sunday night, ad a really good time. Got nothing but praise for Fuel
PINGU 10-10-2005, 05:53 PM Is it just coincidence, or does Fuel hold it's Z list celebrity nights to coincide with the once a month Climax event?
By Z list I obviously mean Dan from BB and Cheeky Girls.
nick2 10-10-2005, 06:22 PM Went Saturday night, got there late so cost £12 for the pair of us to get in (was forced by very bolshy drag queen to "fill in the form for membership or f**k-off")
go-go boys in thongs with sparklers is a bit to camp for me I'm afraid.
Seemed to be doing well and I hope it lasts, it' just not my cup of.
Next time drag queen gobs off at me however I will deck him/her/it.
Zenmaster 10-10-2005, 08:44 PM Denying tap water is illegal. Four of us went on Saturday and paid six quid each to get in. Then we all bought several drinks all night (expensive drinks i'll add). Towards the end of the night we wanted some water. No tap water! How tight are you?

Zenmaster 10-10-2005, 09:31 PM legal documents are annoyingly hard to get hold of on the internet (unless you have access to the universities library system) here is a page of for-the-public information as an example.
The requirments is also part of health and safety law

deepcarsteve 11-10-2005, 02:13 PM Fuel may be in trouble if don't supply free drinking water see below:-
There is a link on the sheffield council page.
Home -> Business & Economy -> Licensing -> Licensing Act 2003 then click Code of Practice link
This brings you to the Codes of Practice And Guidance Notes
For The Establishment and Operation
of Licensed Premises Under The Licensing Act 2003
Here in the document it states
"47.5 Currently, the trend for Ecstasy use is declining in favour of Cocaine. Landlords should, however, continue to observe Home Office guidance on safer dancing and ensure that a free supply of drinking water is available at all dance venues."
Maybe Danny and fuel management should re-think their policy on charging for water as otherwise they may loose out on a club in Sheffield never mind a few pounds lost in revenue??
I'd hate to see fuel be refused a licence renewal because they don't like giving out free water... I'm sure this type of information is dynamite for people who are trying to close down fuel.. PLEASE PLEASE sort this out fuel before something bad happens like you have to close...

we didn't refuse it for tightness but to stop freeloaders.
i think you would all agree that someone coming into a club that has big rent & wage bills etc, wanting free entry and refreshemnt all night is a little beyond a joke.

In other words, Home Office GUIDANCE says that landlords should provide drinking water. This is not on the statute books. It is GUIDANCE under the Licensing Act 2003, which comes into force with the new licenses on 24/11/05.
It is GUIDANCE from the government which supports drug users in nightclubs. Surely this is the scandal here? Shouldn't the government be working with licensees to prevent drug use in nightclubs?
To my way of thinking, if you can afford to go to a nightclub, you can afford to buy alcohol, soft drinks, water etc.....
And if you can afford to buy drugs, you can certainly afford to buy a bottle of water!

Hey Danny!
Im always one for positive encouragement! I went to fuel the other night for the first time, and it was grand! I was chatting to my mate about that very novel Mirror ball you have there!
It was a good night, and i enjoyed it thoughroly...so much i have today recieved my very own membership card! Im going to be poor for the next month or so, with cars to repair and bills to pay, but once i have some more cash ill be straight back!
As has been said many times - keep up the good work!
deepcarsteve 13-10-2005, 09:46 AM Thanks Danny, But I'd still prefer the flavoured liquids, alcholic or not.
Hope to be at fuel again soon. Sadly going to miss the strip comp this Friday as family wedding. Didn't they know not to have weddings when I want to go out.
Steve
Zenmaster 14-10-2005, 07:10 AM When we went to Fuel last week, thought the music was brilliant, good range of tunes all great. Had a fantastic time. Will be going again soon.

If there is a link between drugs and water better to supply none at all and thus discourage all drugies from your establishment.
You do know you can loose your licence for allowing drugs to be taken on your premises.

But there is also a link between dancing in a hot building, getting thirsty and therefore wanting water.
Not everyone who drinks water is a smackhead. :loopy:
I had a man come round today to fix my toilet. He asked for a glass of water while he was here. Does that mean I was encoraging him to take drugs?

What sort of crazy mad world do you live in? I took "dance" drugs for many years ( all the while holding down a good job, buying a house and meeting the love of my life) and frankly whether the club I was in sold or gave away water was never an issue...we were out to have a good time and we did. There's always coke, fruit juices etc if you don't want water, or you can just stick your mouth under the taps in the toilets. Quite honestly SidI think you should stick to posting on topics that you actually know something about and not come on here proselytizing about those on which you are quite clearly ignorant
Angel05 15-10-2005, 04:04 AM Hey went to Fuel tonight with Pauly :)
What a great night... its a fab club...
Highly recommended... we had a great time...
Loving the music and the drag queens... excellent... Keep up the good work :D

God man, what planet are you on?
It is a legal requirement for all entertainment venues and licenced premises to provide a free drink of some sort if my memory serves me correct. When on drugs you can drink beer as well you know!
BoroughGal 15-10-2005, 02:07 PM Ok, next big night out is Halloween on Saturday 29th.....
It's fancy dress and I'll post a proper thread dedicated to it soon.

SpiderPete 19-10-2005, 02:55 PM I know this distracts slightly from Fuel, but for a while I have noticed people come on here and always ask "where is the gay scene", before you start - yes I know there isnt much of it, but times change and maybe its the time now.
So what I have done is put all (or what I know of) of the gay venues onto a website, this is also in my signature, its only started today so please dont start blasting it as "crap" "not enough info" etc etc. things improve in time. I am interested in your views as well.
If you know of any venues not listed or want more info adding about your venue or a venue you know off, please let me know, I will gladly add it, its about time we started to work together to improve things, and having it all in one place is a start.
Sheffield Gay Scene (http://www.sheffieldgayscene.co.uk)
I am particularly interested if anyone has any photos of pubs/clubs that have shut down eg - Cossack, Manhattan Bar, The Albert, Rockies etc etc

From what I gather they were under a fair bit of pressure from SYP because of the amount of underage kids and fighting happening.
So, they cleaned the place up (no kiddies, no scallies), and had to shut cos no-one was coming!!!!
Oh the irony :D
Tone went to see an example of a club that had "turned around" after the change of policy. Think it lasted about another 6 weeks after that.
LIPSTICK 29-10-2005, 05:39 PM Homophobic insults, nasty jestures, dirty looks..just about had everything thrown at us through the years, but for 1 exception....NEVER had it done in a gay pub/club as we did last night.Anyone in the ladies loo's when a 'woman' started abusing other clubbers in there? That's right,abusing...and bullying..and intimidating others? This ignorant person, was having a go at a person asking why they wore mens clothes, all looked like men,and that they should be using the men's toilet! As my partner came out of the toilet, she was offended by this ignorant persons comments/attitude which was VERY aggressive. When my partner asked why she was in Fuel at all,she was told to 'p***s off into the mens toilet as thats where she belonged! After some discussion, this animal wanted to throw punches outside. My partner came away only for this person to start again at the bar. This person was still being abusive so i asked the management to intervene. They did,and after telling the door staff she 'didn't want to come into the f*****g club anyway, was politely ejected.Well done on the swift action taken!Just think members should be more aware of whom they invite into OUR CLUB.
Plain Talker 29-10-2005, 06:07 PM I'm horrified to hear of an incident like this happening, let alone happening in a club with an ethos like fuel has.
Aren't members responsible for whomever they sign into fuel?
If so, then the members who signed the troublemakers into the club ought to carry the can as much as the troublemakers themselves.
They should have their membership revoked, as per the list of rules we were all supplied with when we joined up.
There is no place for bigoted and homophobic behaviour, ANYWHERE.
well done to the door staff for dealing with the cretins involved and getting them ejected from the club.

LIPSTICK 30-10-2005, 09:53 AM Thanks Danny for looking into your door selection. This abusive woman said she was straight, and her friends never intervened when she was being abusive.Probably that was even more worrying, as one of them must have had membership and the others guests? Anyway, on a good note, had an absolutely fantastic night last night at Fuel.Didn't let the previous night get us down.

Wins84 22-11-2005, 02:05 PM I went to fuel on friday for the first time. It was busy and we enjoyed the music but i thought the dancer that they had doing nazi salutes was really offensive. Me and my friends were all shocked by this and dont think its the sort of thing a gay bar should be doing.

i think it was meant as satirical, like 'the producers' and 'springtime for hitler'
personally a gay dancer in a gay club taking the p*ss out of a facist anti-gay dictator (who deserves to be ridiculed) is not offensive to me because of the context in which it was set but if you thought it was slightly bad taste then perhaps you should email the club. I'm sure they didn't mean to offend you.

Access if you have a mobility impairment *is* awkward, to say the least.
The building is an older building, and therefore was not subject to the new building regs which deal with accessibility,
Danny did say, to me, around the time of the club's opening, that he was trying to sort out altering the front entrance of fuel, to incorporate a ramp.
I could not get my wheelchair in, either, and had to resort to using my sticks which really took its toll on me.
The loos have steps, too; I decided it would be better to avoid the loos, rather tan fight with getting to them, because of the accessibility issues, and wait till I got home! lol :S
If you *can* get in, then it's honestly fantastic. I had a lovely time when I went (apart from the probs with access). The atmosphere is good.
The staff were very helpful, I found. How helpful? For example, rather than have me struggle, standing out on the street and waiting for a cab, a member of staff was wonderfully helpful, and kindly hailed me a cab, whilst I was able to remain seated by the doors and wait till the cab had stopped. that was helpful for me, as I struggle with standing for very long.
Danny, if you want an access survey, etc doing, then please contact me: I'd love to help you in that... I chair a pan-disability group, and I feel we could give you some useful input on accessibility and inclusivity.

Might take me a while to work that one out, lol:confused:
Had a fab time in Fuel last night, and amazingly I wasnt that drunk, I wasnt falling into people or doing anything silly, but if I did I dont care, I go out to have a good time, great to see everyone again, I just have 2 things about tonight :
1. The price of lager seemed to have shot up from £2.40 to £2.75 for a pint of Fosters, :o now thats a big jump, dont know when it happened as I am usually slozzled by the time I get there.
2. The Lovely Laura from Hed Kandi, was she there last night ?, wasnt sure what to expect from the act, but I cannot remember one.
Anyway expensive drinks tends to keep me away, so next time 23rd for me to go to Fuel, maybe its a once a month thing now, unless I win the lottery. :P
And THAT is why I refuse to set foot in ANY nightclub, not just Fuel, as I refuse point blank to pay more than £2.20 MAXIMUM for a Pint of anything, even at Town prices... So it's nothing homophobic about Fuel being a gay club or anything like that, contrary to certain beliefs.
SpiderPete 11-12-2005, 02:34 PM You dont have to be gay to go to Fuel.
Its a great place, and you dont turn gay either when you walk through the door, its a relaxed place, I am sure you will like it.

and I am sure those who have been to any nightclub that drinks are more expensive than a pub.
