View Full Version : I saw something strange!
beermaster 11-12-2003, 22:34 So i was driving tonight just coming into woodhouse and i saw something very strange in the sky, it looked like a comet or something with a vapour trail but it was green and quite large!
I followed it across the sky for about 5 secs then it vanished.
Anyone else see this? or was it just something burning up while entering the outer earth?
If it was that i can't believe it would have looked so large in the sky or defined like it did.
This is the first time i have seen anything like this so i just had to write something somewhere!!

No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us......

...Thank God someone else saw it, I thought I might have been seeing things.
I was looking out of my window (my house is off Shirecliffe Road with a view over the valley with the town centre on the right and the airport in the distance on the left) when I saw something green shoot over the house going in the general direction of the town centre. I thought it might have been firework at first but it was much to big...I assumed it was a meteor burning up.

Crimson Glory
It was War of The Worlds, nicely identified, but it was Jeff Wayne who did the album, just that I considered the words from the beginning appropriate to what was being mentioned, this is the continuation of what is said :-
At midnight, on the 12th of August, a huge mass of luminous gas erupted from Mars and sped towards Earth. Across two hundred million miles of void, invisibly hurtling towards us, came the first of the missiles that were to bring so much calamity to Earth. As I watched, there was another jet of gas. It was another missile, starting on its way.
And that's how it was for the next ten nights. A flare, spurting out from Mars. Bright green, drawing a green mist behind it; a beautiful, but somehow disturbing sight. Ogilby, the astronomer, assured me we were in no danger. He was convinced there could be no living thing on that remote, forbidding planet.
See what I mean ?
I saw a similar thing a while back:

Internetowl 15-12-2003, 10:34 I thought Jon was our friendly neighbour UFO spotter?
So much for that group!
Funky Dave 15-12-2003, 21:49 I believe that there is a meteor shower passing by us at the moment. I half heard it on the news this afternoon.
beermaster 16-12-2003, 07:05 I figured it had to have bin that!
Agent Dan 16-12-2003, 08:56 Check this link (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/031216/323/eh5bk.html) and see if it sounds like your story...
fnkysknky 16-12-2003, 09:58 Little green men landed in my garden last night, they came in for a bit but said they weren't staying as they wanted to get back home for last orders...
chalicefc3 17-12-2003, 01:39 Last night at about 2.15am, i was looking out onto the Psalter Lane SHU campus from a small velux window in the attic - and i saw a green object fall from the sky. Initially i thought that it may have been some runt letting off a firework - the ones that omit a bright green colour but don't bang.
It appears that you cleared it up and put my mind at rest. I had entertained the idea that it could have been a meteor fragment - but only briefly, as i have NEVER seen a shooter star - so why would i now see a meteor fall in the osbourne road area of brincliffe!!!
anthonyc 17-12-2003, 07:41 If it wasn't green, I would have suggested it was an Iridium Flare.

andy1702 18-12-2003, 20:08 Meteor shower? OK, if you like. I guess at least that way this thread will stay on the site.
Does anyone remember the Night Owls show on Hallam FM about 10 or 12 years ago? It was a phone in thing which started at 11pm and ran through until either 1 or 2 the following morning. It was presented by two guys (both called Roger if I remember right) one who dit weeknights and the other who did weekends.
Anyway the weeknight guy was a big-time sceptic about UFOs and stuff. And he hated getting all these wierd calls. So one night he dedicated a whole show to the subject in the hope he would get it out of the way once and for all.
The thing was, if you wanted to go on and talk about something, you had to ring up after 10pm and tell the girl who answered the phone what you wanted to say. She would then ring you back AFTER 11 and then put you live on air a few moments later after transfering your call to Roger in the studio. This meant that the station had a log of what people were going to say at least 1 hour BEFORE they had heard anyone else's story.
And so you'll imagine how surprised the sceptical presenter was when nearly all the callers described seeing the same thing. Some of whom even saw it from different positions at tye same time on the same night!
Now I'm willing to bet good money that Hallam FM do NOT have a recording of that show.
There are many similar shows from TV and radio across the country which have been conveniently "lost."
Does anyone here have access to Hallam FM? Let's see if my conspiracy theory is correct.
If Nick at Night's still lurking here, maybe he can answer that last question...

Internetowl 18-12-2003, 22:56 I seem to think I left due to the group's insistance of linking it to nazis - ie tim Hessle / Matthews and the like.
I note you still advertise him on the website .... very pc.

Internetowl 19-12-2003, 11:42 No mate, Tim Matthews as is, was Tim Hepple - a known BNP member and undercover mole into left wing organisations - he's been outted and thats why you hear not from him these days in UFO circles...
Seems he was trying to pervert ufo research towards finding a 'new' order. All very dodgy.
Read - At war with the Universe by O'Hara and Booth for more gory details of Mr Hepple and his actions.

(16) There is a civil war in the United States that starts in 2005. That conflict flares up and down for 10 years. In 2015, Russia launches a nuclear strike against the major cities in the United States (which is the "other side" of the civil war from my perspective), China and Europe. The United States counter attacks. The US cities are destroyed along with the AFE (American Federal Empire)...thus we (in the country) won. The European Union and China were also destroyed. Russia is now our largest trading partner and the Capitol of the US was moved to Omaha Nebraska.
I just fell off my chair laughing at that :D
EU and China get it but US somehow manages to survive, crazy crack head.

So DO Hallam still have the tape? I'd be intrigued to know:thumbsup:
I've seen it tonight. Driving past Somerfield at Manor Top both me and my friend saw it. It's like a green shooting star, that's twice I've seen it in that area.

"Geminids meteors can be seen anytime after 10 p.m. local time, when the constellation Gemini is well above the horizon, but the best time to look is during the early morning hours between about 2 a.m. and dawn. That's when the local sky is pointing directly into the Geminid meteor stream.
The radiant of the Geminid shower is located near Castor, one of the two bright stars in Gemini (the other bright star is Pollux). To find the constellation at 2:00 a.m., go outside and face south. Castor and Pollux will appear approximately 45 degrees above the horizon. Earlier in the evening, from 10:00 p.m. until midnight, Gemini will be about 30 degrees above the horizon in the southeast.
You won't need binoculars or a telescope, the naked eye is usually best for seeing meteors which often streak more than 45 degrees across the sky. When observe ring outdoors it is always advised to wrap-up warm and relax in a reclining chair with a flask of hot chocolate. "
I copied the above form a website,
I saw the same thing a few years ago (1999) while out walking the dog, It was absolutely amazing, A meteor streaked across the sky before descending through a hole in the clouds then exploded into hundreds of fragments over sheffield. I watch out for it every year but I haven't seen it happen since.
As Lostrider says it was a Geminid Meteor. They usually appear between the 10th Dec and 16th Dec after 10 pm. I missed it this year. It sounds as though it was very spectacular this year.
Internetowl 26-12-2003, 19:06 You mean it wasn't an alien? Jon will be horrified <g>
Ok, Ok, ok, I admit, it was mi cousins that tied some light on the back of a damn pigeon. That's what yah saw, a flying pigeon with a light wieght torch strapped to its leg by mi cousins.
