Hi all
I'm hoping some of you can give us some helpful advice! I'm planning to buy a house with my partner in the S8 area (woodseats, norton lees, little norton, norton, greenhill area)
Do any of you know the best estate agents to go with, any problems with certain estate agents?
Is there anyway/websites where people can sell property without going through estate agents?
Anyone got any comments on the area positive or negative??
ok, that enough questioning from me! :-) your turn....
Thanks
I live in Norton and would certainly recommend it as a great place to live...as far as Estate Agents go Blundells seem to encourage bidding wars which is great if you are the seller or work for Blundells but is very distressing/frustrating for the prospective buyer!! They sell a lot of property in this area so it quite likely you may find the house suitable for purchase and it happens to be them marketing it!!
Good Luck...know your price...stick to it and I am sure something will come along!
This subject has been covered before so if you use Search Site and put in Estate Agents names I am sure previous threads they have been mentioned in will pop up to give you further information too!!
also www.ourproperty.co.uk will tell you what other houses sold for in the area recently so you can make a price comparison!
I live in Norton Lees and I like it very much. Woodseats is more lively, has more night life, good shops including charity shops and is busier in general. Good luck and I might see you around Biddy

I lived in Norton Lees for 4 years up to a year ago. nice area, friendly people, easy to get to town, or woodseats if you just want a bit of shopping. The red lion is a good local, just down the road at heely, and tescos have a megastore at abbeydale for the weekly shop. I only moved cos I wanted to be a bit closer to the countryside.

Hi
Myself and my partner have just moved to Woodseats and we really like it. We have a lot of friends around here which always helps though.
Woodseats seems ok so far- the buses are good, shops ok, has enough takeaways and pubs etc. Graves park and Meersbrook parks are lovely. Also, Abbeydale Road/London Road are in walking distance for all of the shops and restuarants around there. Also Sharrowvale Road is v good and about 15 mins in the car.
We are happy here and probably will stay in this area now. It has everything we wanted when we were looking for a house.
I have heard the same things about Blundells thugh- apparently they always advertise at 10% under value to get sealed bids in. Although I think a lot of agents do that in Sheffield anyway.
Good luck anyway!!
:)
Hi,
Me and my partner are currently buying a house in Meersbrook. S8 seems to be a very desirable area, especially for first time buyers.
We put in about 5 offers on different houses in S8 with different estate agents and they all seem to encourage bidding wars.
You need to make sure that you stick to a price and not get drawn in to bidding higher and higher and also don't get too disheartened if you keep getting out bid!!
We bought through Blundells. DONT get into a bidding war, register your interest by putting in a low bid. They will keep calling you to let you know what the bids are at, don't increase your offer you may be raising the price unneccessarily. Then ask when the closing date is and call the day before to find out what the highest bid is so far. (If there is only one other intersted party it won't be as high as if you had bid backwards and forwards with them) Submit you're top offer and wait & see!
Good luck!

Hi,
What kind of house are you looking for? We're just about to put ours on the market - it's in Meersbrook, 2 bed semi, big garden. I don't really want to leave this area as its so nice & we've had no problems at all. But needs must & our circumstances have changed...
