Hi,

I see that there are vacancies advertised to become a Prison Officer on the official site and wondered if anybody had any advice or experience in this field as to if it is a good career?

Thanks

my dad works for serco as a prison officer, he loves it, there is a chance to progress and you could be in management within 4 years if you have the brains for it, starting salary is usually 16k for a few months then bumps up to 20k.

i would go for it! theres always going to be thick idiots getting banged up so it's a job for life! good luck!!

Did the initial test passed that, then did the first lot of questions, passed that and now been invited to the Assessment day down in Rochester on the 18th Nov - not sure what to do now...

Just had an update saying that the salary isn't as high as first advertised - its 14,600 and with add ons can make it up to 17k - not too much money for a lot of responsibilty

What is the pay like with progression though? Sometimes it might be a rubbish starting salary but with lots of opportunity? I'd ring and ask them roughly what the average salary after 1 year and 5 years.
