View Full Version : Isn't it ridiculous when you can't go to a footy game?
themadrev 27-10-2009, 12:41 Phoned Barnsley today to see if there were tickets for the game tonight. They said there were but they couldn't sell them to me as I wasn't on their database. Of course I'm not on their database as I'm a season ticket holder at Bramall Lane and my father in law (whose idea it was to go having arrived from Liverpool)) has a season ticket at Everton. It seems odd that you can't go to an interesting game as a neutral fan (though we would both be supporting Barnsley) any more. Same thing happened last year when I tried to go to Rotherham vs Leeds at Don Valley. Should I take it personally?? :loopy:
Ps. The thread should be called 'Isn't it ridiculous when you can't go to a footy game?' I apologise.
CorkerSWFC 27-10-2009, 16:51 It is a bit stupid really, but it's put in place because of the hooligan elements from various club's.
Manchester United being one of the biggest may i add.

I thought Barnsley would have sold out against Man Utd to be honest.
It's not exectley the biggest stadium in the world is it Oakwell.
Is it the recession kicking in again.

matt1889 27-10-2009, 23:38 Simple explanation......Man Utd sold their full allocation and could have sold it over and over, therefore why would Barnsley risk Man Utd fans getting in on their end of the ground?
Safety first im afraid, I personally wouldnt want to risk trouble makers, and drunken yobs getting in an environment where kids are and causing trouble.....Well done Barnsley!
CorkerSWFC 28-10-2009, 07:06 Manchester United fan's have mad a right mess of Oakwell apparently.

I take your point. But, it seems sad that you can't go and watch a big game any more as a neutral fan. I'm also not sure how much it is going to stop people who want to cause trouble, it's more likely to just put off casual fans like myself.
Plain Talker 28-10-2009, 08:39 Manchester United fan's have mad a right mess of Oakwell apparently.
Apparently they smashed up the away end, good style. Reports say £23.50-worth of improvements happened .... ;)
Actually, talking seriously for a minute, there was some appalling behaviour last night, what with a couple of Barnsley numpties trying to invade the pitch, and the Man-U fans smashing up the away end at Oakwell.
A mate of mine said, this morning, "Had I been the ref, I'd have said 'Match abandoned, Barnsley win'!" I think that would have been a fitting punishment. (and taken the wind out of the mighty man-U's sails!)
According to the news report on the radio this morning, the concessions stands in the away-end were smashed up, and the tills robbed. The concessions staff had to barricade themselves into a storeroom for protection whilst this "mini riot" was happening.
Low behaviour, much? These sort of idiots can't call themselves fans! I hope there was CCTV on the concourse, to enable the police to identify and charge those involved in this mindless behaviour.
I have to say, if that was Man-U's reaction to a win, I'd hate to see them after losing a game!!!
I reckon a lot of proper Mancs and Salford lads and not their massive southern contingent would have been there last night. Few of my mates, who usually can't get a ticket were there. Their main hoolies are from Salford and probably are priced out of games at Old Trafford these day, hence why the atmosphere is rubbish. Having said that, these lads shouldn't be allowed into Football grounds, utter disgrace.

And seen the referee fired immediately and the decision quashed. There's no provision in the competition rules for that to happen.
If there were, it would hardly solve the problem; indeed it might make it worse. It would be pretty easy for, say, a group of Arsenal fans to dress themselves in Spurs gear and wreck someone's away stand, thus causing Spurs to forfeit the match...
