View Full Version : Dotty - this brought a tear to my eye
Rainrescue 26-10-2009, 23:33 Dotty is a little brindle staffy that was awaiting her fate in a dog pound - months ago.
She was not in good health. She was full of scabs and sores. Her face was pretty much ripped to pieces - from either bites or wire - who knows what.
She was skinny and boring. BUT
Somehow - she managed to get one of us to love her and a volunteer begged us to take in 'ONE MORE BRINDLE STAFFY CROSS'.
I told her we had just taken in Diamond - who was no easy dog (was she Diamond123)?, and she would take ages to rehome. But, somehow - we had a soft spot for her.
Anyway - she went out to kennels, and this great guy called Chris offered to foster young scabby Dotty for us.
She has been with us now for about 6 months. The right home just hasn't come up for her. Dotty's foster dad loves her to bits, but how he's turned her round. She is now a really calm well balanced dog. She is fine in the company of most dogs (ok she's still a staffy and they can't put their tongue out at her or call her names or she has to just put them in their place), but mostly she is a well socialised young lady.
Loved by all the family - and now just waiting for a great home - because then Chris can work his magic and save another dog destined to die.
This just shows - that just cos they are a brindle staffy - there's a great dog in there - just waiting for the right person.
Warning - this one made me cry - but its really nice
Thank you Chris for all the time and effort you have put in for helping Dotty - we await her new home.

Oh my days. I remember Dotty (was called Chainie) when she was in the pound, scabby, skinny, showed off with other dogs at times...
Just look at her now. What a change. Just shows you, with hard work, which is very much appreciated, it can be done. Look at Dotty and Diamond now, the dreaded staffy, staffy crosses that no one looks at, and why?
Thank you very much for everyone who cares and to the people who have put the time and effort into making them into wonderful dogs. It's hard work, well done! Thanks for giving them a chance. Dotty is ready for a new home now, someone is out there, we know there is. Lovely girl.
It is stories like dottys that make me ring up loads of compaies, people and fill in endless donation requests.
Without places like rain he would have been pts
well done

pets@home 27-10-2009, 06:45 what a lovely dog Dottie has made well done to all concerned all thats needed now is the happy ending i hope the right person comes along rain & gives her a forever home Again well done all.
What a beautiful dog. Can't Dotty's foster dad keep her? She obviously loves him so much.
Well done him, he's done a fanstatic job with Dotty.
Rainrescue 27-10-2009, 09:36 Thanks for all your comments everyone - in fact I will have a look for the scabby picture we have of Chainie - yes id forgotten her name was that Jinxsta.
Bagger - her foster dad would love to keep her but its more sensible that he doesn't - because as soon as she finds her new home, he will be able to help and save another one - just like her that would no doubt die if he didn't.
Its always a risk that the fosterer keeps them - which is fantastic for that dog, but not for the rescue and more dogs.
So, spread the link of her far and wide everyone - and lets find that good home to reward foster dad for his hard work.
KATIEB_23 27-10-2009, 10:09 Oh my god!
I remember Chainie... I tried to cajole absolutely everybody I knew to adopt her at the time! :hihi:
I even put that awful horrible pic of her all emaciated and scabby up on our kitchen noticeboard at work!
I just can't get over how wonderful she looks now  aww well done you guys, you are amazing!
xx
Wow she is such a beautiful girl. Strange how a dog of such a different breed can be so much like one of mine!
I can't wait til I have my own space - I've always said I'll stick to dallies and possibly poodles (and I will) but I think I just have to have one brindle staffy (at least!).
I can't take any dogs on at the moment - not even on a foster basis sadly, but I will!
I so hope Dotty finds the forever home she deserves, what a gorgeous girl x
diamond123 27-10-2009, 10:37 OMG i am sat here blubering like a big baby now with diamond tilting her head at me wondering whats going on.
she is honestly just diamonds absolute double even down to her mannerisms the rollin and the head tilt and the giving you a face wash when you sit on the flor with her. thank god someone gave her a chance.
i can honestly say diamond was a nightmae for us for at least 5 months and she still had her moments after that i even considered at my darkest moments of despair handing her back to rescue because i didnt think i could do best by her. but now she is just the best dog/friend and companion i could ask for i cant even describe how much me and my bf love her. she has so much personality and character she makes me laugh she cuddles me when i cry she is cheeky and pushes her luck all the time. all in all shes just fantastic the best thing we ever did putting the hard work in with her.
if dotty is anything like dianmond she will make someone an excelent pet if they can just se past that staffy stigma. im off to walk my girl now
KATIEB_23 27-10-2009, 10:44 OMG i am sat here blubering like a big baby now with diamond tilting her head at me wondering whats going on.

Same for me!
The mannerisms are uncanny.
Every time I see a dog like this it breaks my heart, cos she is so similar to Gadget, and to me Gadget is just the most perfect precious dog in the world ever... I can't bear to think of dogs so similar to him with no-one to love them :(
(refering to Dotty before RR intervened ;))
Snagglepuss 27-10-2009, 10:45 OMG, Dotty is gorgeous, and that is very unusual for me to say, as I'm not a great lover of staffy's and don't like them, but this one has got something special about her. She seems so serene and gives out a vibe of something I can't quite put my finger on. Hope she finds a well deserved forever home soon.
Thats a fantastic clip love it. Lets hope it works for Dotty, I love the car journey bit she looks so chilled.
Dotty
KATIEB_23 27-10-2009, 10:54 I can't find that old photo of her

haddockman 27-10-2009, 11:21 Wow, what a lovely calm dog she is! Love the bit when she's in the car, just looking around!
Diamond you've done a great job with her, hopefully a home will come along soon for her, in the mean time, she's a lucky girl!
diamond123 27-10-2009, 12:53 oh no haddock man i had diamond who came into the pound at the same time at dotty (they are v similar). a gentleman, in huddersfield i think, took dotty on and sorted her out and has done an absolutely smashing job. i had the task of diamond which was no easy ride let me tell ya :)

I'd be rubbish at fostering, I'd be too soft to let them be adopted. Thank goodness their are great foster dads like Dotty's. Keep up the good work, it's admirable what you're all doing.:)
I hope she finds a home, she looks a beautiful dog, she obviously loves kiddies aswell!
haddockman 27-10-2009, 14:39 oh no haddock man i had diamond who came into the pound at the same time at dotty (they are v similar). a gentleman, in huddersfield i think, took dotty on and sorted her out and has done an absolutely smashing job. i had the task of diamond which was no easy ride let me tell ya :)
Sorry, that's me skim-reading the thread and missing the point completely!!
Well someone has done a great job with her, whoever they may be!!

Sorry only just got the email and was just about to pop the pics on for you.
You just can't believe that Dotty is the same dog can you? that sad face and OMG those marks, they look like bites to me...really I dread to think so I won't.
The difference is astounding, her coat is shining and her eyes are shining bright and happy, your fosterer is a miracle worker, she is absolutely beautiful, a credit to all of the hard work put in, it just goes to show that all that most dogs need is just a chance.
Good luck in finding a lovely new home Dotty
STRIEDER 28-10-2009, 00:45 Bless her that has really made me cry,i hope she finds a loving home she deserves it.What a beautiful girl.
