View Full Version : UFC 104, poor judging does Shogun out of the title.
Did anyone else watch this event? Shogun landed tons more cleaner strikes, was the constant aggressor, and had is the first person Machida hasn't been able to time right.
I was shocked at the decision to give it to Machida, but it wasn't quite a robbery. I'm just worried that the judges hired by the athletic commissions don't know enough about the sport, and aren't sure what they are judging.
Terrible decision i thought, even Machida looked like he knew he'd lost.
You (removed)!!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't you have put **spoiler!!!** in the bloody title. Aaaaarrrrrrrggggghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
You c*nt!!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't you have put **spoiler!!!** in the bloody title. Aaaaarrrrrrrggggghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not a spoiler if it's already been shown live on TV. How long were you going to wait before watching it?
yes it is. by definition a spoiler SPOILS RESULTS for people who haven't watched an event yet! and it was only on about 3 days ago, it's not like it was last year.
if it hadn't been shown already, nobody would have the results and a spoiler would not be possible spazhound
i suppose i should let you off seeing as you're a nube

Maybe if you didn't live in Parson Cross and could have afforded to watch this on the night then you wouldn't have this problem.
Oh, and Cain Velazquez stopped Rothwell in the 2nd round, and Stevenson won on points.
lol.

i think the title kind of gives it away in the first place dont you think, bit of an idiot only to realise who won/lost by clicking on the thread.

are u retarded? i clicked on the thread because the title spoiled it for me, hence the advice to write spoiler in the title

sorry! i am well and truly chastised . i won't do it again
Paul2412 27-10-2009, 12:30 Completely agree, I don't watch UFC much but I thought Shogun was the better fighter and so did the commentators.
What was the "to be the champion, you have to outclass the champion" all about? From that I took it as though because it was a close fight, Shogun didn't defeat Machida convincingly enough to take the title away.
sorry! i am well and truly chastised . i won't do it again
Sorry- i ment it in a friendly way :D :D
I'm not so sure and I've been a Shogun fan for a long time and have only recently come around to liking Machida (gotta love anyone who fills in Tito).
I thought Machida (JUST) won the first three rounds and was screaming at the TV for Shogun to attack more in the fifth as I thought he could have stopped him but his corner apparently told him he'd already won. Incidently he clearly won the last 2 rounds.
The commentators really annoyed me though as they were blatantly supporting Shogun (so was I but I'm not being paid to be impartial). One example was at the end of the second I think when Machida landed four clean punches on Shogun's face and shogun countered with a slapping right hand that scuffed the top of Machida's head, the commentators only shouted "WHAT A RIGHT HAND FROM SHOGUN" and that seemed to be the theme for the fight, if Rua so much as lightly slapped Machida's thigh they were screaming how much he was winning.
For me I thought it was an opportunity lost for Rua as he could have finished him but backed off due to terrible advice from his corner. Be interesting rematch though. It's good to see a better Shogun back again, for a while I thought he must have sh****d Dana White's wife as he seemed intent on putting him in with the best the UFC had to offer with no warm up fights....Crazy:loopy:
Also be good if Shogun wins the rematch imagine:
Anderson Silva vs Mauricio Shogun Rua
Now there's a fight worth waiting for
Just watched it and as much as I like Lyoto Machida my heart bleeds for poor Shogun... you could see him crying backstage after the fight. Clear victory, he should have the light heavyweight belt now (unanimous decision as well!!). I just hope the UFC isn't fixing results now because I've seen some well dodgy decisions recently. Maybe it all has something to do with Dana White being a tool, Fedor won't fight in the UFC because of him and he's probably not the only one.

Can't really agree with that, he fought Forrest who had lost 2 of his last 4, then old man Coleman, who was over 40 when they fought, then he fought the shot Chuck, who had lost 3 of his last 4, and had just been victim to a devastating KO to Rashad Evans.
I don't particularly this these are unfair fights for Rua, who was not long before regarded as the best 205'er in the world, and former Pride Champion.
Check out Rua in Pride, he's no joke.
No one could refute the fact that Shogun deserved to win - even Machida knew he'd lost it, he looked gutted at the end of the fight, as did the rest of his camp, whereas Shogun's camp were getting ready to party hard and celebrate!

My conclusion? That you have too much time on your hands.
You actually counted the strikes? SAD
i gave my honest opinion having watched the fight but do us a favour count the strikes per round for me so i can really be sure who won
My Point about Dana white i stand by the ufc are all about the match ups rather than the long term prospects of the fighter. Shogun was coming back from a serious injury prior to fighting griffin who until Anderson destroyed him was considered a top fighter.

No I didn't count the strikes, I got them from a fight metrics website, I can link you the source if you wish.
I'm happy to discuss this intelligently, and actually back up what I'm saying with facts and logical opinion, shame you can't do the same, and have to revert to calling me "sad" and the like.
Find a new thread, and let the grown-ups talk.

Whoa there precious keep your hair on!!
So you got the statistics from a fight metrics website which is a perfectly normal thing to do and not sad in any way.
Personally Statto I prefer to watch the fight a few times and come up with my own opinion and that still is that as much as I wanted Shogun to win I thought that by the judging sytsem of the UFC Machida edged it but Shogun completely dominated the last 2 rounds (which may be why the statistics you have favour Shogun). What I'll agree with is that Shogun SHOULD have won the fight, i.e. he had enough gas and power to convincingly take Machidas title and even stop him but he backed off because he thought he'd already won.
Also note from my first post I didn't say "Machida won", I said "I'm not sure" which as I am not an MMA judge is like me, you know, giving an opinion?
I'll take your advice though as from your "fight metrics" data I assume that either you are way too fond of Shogun or just a know all (or both) and that disagreements will not be tolerated so I'll find another thread.
chopshop 28-10-2009, 10:12 Hang on Horus that's a bit full on. (though Statto is very funny:hihi:). Both of you if you reread each others posts you are (kind of) agreeing with each other AND YOU BOTH SEEM TO BE SHOGUN FANS!!
Horus I can see what you're saying as I have been a boxing judge in the past and under the 10 point must system we used to score clean head shots more than anything else. according to various MMA websites the judges are primarily boxing judges and so are likely to score the same way rather than say a Thai judge who apparently score on skill and damage inflicted rather than anything else.
Gram? I agreed with you that Shogun won but I think it was razor tight and am not surprised that they went for Machida as they seem unwilling to score a 10:10 round which I thought 1 and 3 were with 2 going to
Machida and Shogun clearly winning the last 2. If they had actually used the system properly I think Shogun would have won. But look on the bright side REMATCH.
Now kiss and make up!

I'm pretty sure Shogun owned round 1 as well, so that and the last two rounds should have ensured the win.

To be honest I couldn't say he owned it, I've watched it a few times and I'd say neither fighter did enough to win the first round. they were feeling ech other out and apart from a couple of leg kicks and pressing Machida up against the fence a couple of times he didn't really do anything, nor did Machida so if it was scored properly I think it should have been a 10:10 round. Academic really as it would still make Shogun the winner just in a different way.
You want to see truly bad decisions have a look at the last Carl Froch fight!!
