I remember the fist thing I ever bought, on the tick, with my new wage, back in 1963, was a Faranti transistor radio from an electrical shop at the bottom of Park Lane.

It cost £11, an enormous sum in those days for a lad earning £2 15s and only getting £1 a week pocket money, and a huge drain on my finances.
