Hi all.
I was lookin at the wedding book application i have on facebook. Now i have never hear of these befor till i read about them on the message board. Now i have seen at weddings chocolate fountains all the time for a center piece, and every wedding i have been to has had one, but i like something diffrent and lookin on the net at the sites about candy buffet look fun to have.

Now i will be also havin a food buffet, but i thought maybe it will be a little fun to for the kids, and also the big kids (AKA grown ups) has our center piece.
I have had a look at companys on the net that do these, but lookin at them i know i could do them myself, with a few fish bowls of some kind with differnt sweets in and jazz up a table. Any how i know it is maybe a bit American and it is newish to the UK, but i was wondering has anyone been to a wedding with a candy buffet, if so how well did it go down, or should i just stick to plain old chocolate fountain that every body seem to have had.

Couple of links below to get an idea on what i am on about.

I like the idea - for a start you don't have to worry about getting melted chocolate over your lovely outfit!

It's nice to have something different for your wedding day, and I'm guessing that it'd cost a lot less than a fountain too, don't you generally have to pay for someone to staff them?

I had a pick and mix stand at my wedding. we did it ourselves and cost about £50 for everythng. we got some biscuit jars from tesco, some tongs from asda and the sweets and stripy paper bags from bookers (Like macro and costco). It went down really well. people are still talking about it 4 months later!!!

Thanks hannah, that is even a better idea then to have fish bowls that i was thinking of useing, i never thought about the thoes jars you used for your wedding. And it will cost us a little less then glass. Good too can you buy the tongs aswel, i will have a look in Asda when i next go, i was goin to look on ebay for them. Thanks for shareing about haveing one at your wedding, nice to see people still talking about it so i think i will go for it now.

Thanks knitbird for your post, the bit about what you said about the melted chocolate over your outfit is one reason why i had 2nd thoughts about havin a fountain, i seen it to many times at weddings no matter how careful you are.

That amazing!

Im a real sucker for fizzy sweets and stuff.. I think it gives a real twist on the whole wedding idea. I'd be scared about getting the chocolate allover my dress aswell so sweets seem a really good idea! I like this.. :D

wow that looks amazing! I want one! :hihi:
My only worry (and the reason I couldnt do this) is all the kids on a sugar high after - I have 2 nephews with ADHD and this would have sent their behaviour rocketing.
BUT - it still looks nice! :)

LOL that also come to our minds to about the kids on a sugar high, and we to have kids with ADHD in both side of the family but hope the parents take charge in how much they eat. But also we thought about gettin personalised bags with our date of marraige for the guest and useing the candy buffet has the wedding favours. I know its maybe a cheap way out :hihi:, but i have been to weddings befor and given little netting bags full with mints or sweets has favours, so thought people could choose their own sweets and have a bag for a keep sake.

Thanks to gina2007, maybe if we have any fizzy sweets left i sure pass them on to you :D.

We replaced the centrepiece flowers on the tables with Thorntons chocs bought from the outlet at Doncaster for cheaper than usual, and as it was easter we got to have their choc bunnies too :D

Parents were able to supervise their kids thanks to the location of the chocolate, and we saved on flowers too (besides, the florist had annoyed me a couple of weeks before so... :P )

How about hand etching names onto supermarket bought glasses instead of place cards, and fillling those with sweets or treats?

The wedding haddock was best man at earlier this year had something like this, and it was a huge success, I thought it was a fab idea and they looked really pretty too! My Makro staff discount came in very handy when purchasing huge tubs of pick and mix sweeties ;)

Strix i love the idea of the glasses, but who does or can do the etching in sheffield onto glass?.
Think this is a good idea for the adults ( i bet they all be waiting for alcohol to be fill up in the glass then sweets knowing our lot lol) and have bags for the kids.
I will have a look into it, has in cost wise of it all and to see if we have it done. We found someone on ebay that can do us the bags so we have that to fall back on for everyone if the glass idea dont go to plan.

you can either get a trophy engraver such as the bloke at crystal peaks market to do it, or you can get yourself a dremmel type tool and do it yourself! It's dead easy :D (just don't buy delicate glasses ;)

to cheat and get the lettering just right, find a font you like on the computer (or download one from the internet), print everybody's name off well spaced out, cut them out, then put them inside the glass to guide you as you etch
