View Full Version : More Kitten advice please..
Sorry everyone but your the best folks for advice :)
Ruby & Molly came off the anti-biotics/eye drops on Tuesday and they are looking really well according to the vets. They had their first set of injections Tuesday evening and also their worming tablets (half each). They've been fine since. Oh and they also gained weight which is a bonus, especially for Ruby who went a bit on the thin side.
Today, they seem a little different. They've been playing but not as much as normal. They've hardly eaten anything. Tried them with Rabbit this morning but they didn't touch that so we've changed it to Cod tonight and they've hardly touched that either. Any other day they'll quite happily go through 3/4 pouches a day between them!
I'm pretty sure Molly has got a sore bottom so i'm not sure if that's why she's not eating because she's struggling to go to the toilet? She sort of makes random noises when she's trying then runs away because it hurts maybe? Ruby doesn't seem to have the toilet problem though.
I'm not sure if there's anything i could give her? Or shall i just keep an eye on her tonight/tomorrow?
Just seems a bit strange that they both haven't eaten much? Maybe their just having a crap day and i'm being a paranoid mummy?
gina2007 24-10-2009, 20:46 What wormer was it they had?
What wormer was it they had?
Erm....i'm not sure  Let me try and find the box (that the cats have been playing with ) and i'll get back to you. It's the one that the vets gave us along with the other medication last week...
Can't find the box but according to my invoice it's something called Milbemax
gina2007 24-10-2009, 20:55 Alright - its just Mickie had her wormer the other day and instead of not going to the toilet shes been going waaay too much and very erm not solid (Sorry - I had a weak stomach when pregnant and dont want to describe something that'll make you throw up! :D ) but im wondering if its the same worming tablet - maybe somethings different in them thats causing the problems..?
gina2007 24-10-2009, 20:58 Ahh no - Mickie had drontal... Strange.. Im not help sorry - but - Moonbird said the other day to me, see if shes dehydrated, is your cat dehydrated? Mickie wasnt and her poops havent calmed down either!
I don't think they are, they've had water in the dishes all day but early on this evening we've put a bit of kitten milk in there. Ruby hasn't touched it (from what i've seen) and Molly had a fair bit of it.
I just can't seem to get my head around the fact that it's both of them hardly eating - maybe it is just an off day after all - i do hope so :(
Gina just noticed your signature did you rehome the older cat from last week I thought you did but maybe it was not you but i cant see her on your signature anymore
seadog
Oh, i may just add though - i went into Morrisons early and bought a fresh chicken and about half an hour ago i broke a bit up (not much at all) and went to see if they'd have any and they couldn't eat it quick enough!!
gina2007 24-10-2009, 21:16 If theyre eating chicken - they should be alright.. but the pooping I dont know. To see if theyre dehydrated, get them by the scruff of their necks and let go - if it takes a long time to go back down (The fur/skin) theyre dehydrated.. I hope ive got that right - Moonbird told me the other day what it was.. :D
Seadog - Yeah, I had to rehome her. Will PM you :)
I've just given them some more chicken (not too much, mind) and that's all gone too!! :o
OH's done the fur thingymibobby and he says they're not dehydrated cos the skin goes straight back down so that's good.
gina2007 24-10-2009, 21:37 Maybe theyre just not needing to poop?
I think they'd let you know if they were in any pain.. but if theres nothing by tomorrow i'd start to be getting a little paranoid.. Have they gone elsewhere? Behind TV? Bedrooms? I got paranoid that mickie hadnt gone the other week - then found a nice big one in my bedroom :gag: Bloody cats!!!

No, don't think so. They've always used the litter tray. The only place they can do it is in the living room (they don't go upstairs unless we're there) and we've had a look around but haven't seen anything
Molly's bum does sort of look inflamed a little sometimes, especially when she's been trying to go  I've no idea, i'll keep a close eye on them though.
Thanks for your help, Gina x
Moonbird 24-10-2009, 22:00 If they haven't eaten much they won't poo, also if they eat lean meat such as chicken or fish they won't poo much either as there is less waste for their bodies to deal with.
Chicken is good meat for them so don't worry about that it will build them up after being ill, cats tend to go off their food...well mine do and there seems to be batches of food that they usually enjoy that they struggle with not sure why, but if they were really ill they wouldn't play or eat at all, I would think it is an off day.
Gina if Mickie is still as bad and she has been on the fish diet then I think that she will need a vet as she might have a bug going on.

She wouldnt touch the fish Moon. Shes been ok - ish - and theyre not as runny but still regular.. Shes perked up alot aswell.. She was running around with a bottle lid last night chasing it about and she ate a spider..! I do think she just had an off day - or maybe ate something she shouldnt, she has a tendancy to eat left overs off the plates if we dont scrape them straight away.
If she isnt any different though by Monday morning I think its the vets, still clearing her tray every few hours, 2/3 times a day!x

Oh she doesn't sound to bad then Gina, like you say see how she goes.....she wouldn't eat the fish!!!! :o my lot would walk a thousand miles for it and chicken.

Yeah they've had chicken so i'm not too worried now. I'm sure they are just playing silly buggers with us, they used to love rabbit and cod now they won't eat it :hihi:
Hopefully it is an off day and i'll keep a close eye on them tomorrow to see how they are. They're currently playing at the moment so can't be too bad!
I guess i'm just a paranoid mummy already! :(

Sweetcorn - Will eat it as if its going out of fashion.
Chicken - picks at it.
(White) Fish - wont touch it.
Tuna - same as sweetcorn
Pasta - adores it!
Strange cat but atleast she isnt picky lol!

Wait until youve got your baby here.. You'll know paranoid then :hihi:
my eyes only 24-10-2009, 22:51 Hi I have 4 cats and they all eat different things:-
13 yr old - has to keep away from any seafood makes him sick as a dog, only eats whiskers tinned cat food.
12yr old - not too keen on fish, crunchies but loves whiskers temptations, only eats whiskers tinned cat food.
3yr old - the biggest of the lot, he is a vegetarian strange i know he eats all salad and vegetables, and whiskers crunchies, he wont eat any seafood or tinned cat food, but still loves kitten milk!
6 month old - he eats and drinks anything and everything that is going!
They all love rain water so i have a pot on the back for them to drink from.
They all change there mind from time to time in what they want to eat, but if they are feeling abit off I try to find something that they like which might be abit of cheese, yoghut, custard - this food is not a regular thing i might add.
Dont know if any of this is useful to you but it might help.

I know :( It's slowly starting already just with the kittens!
God help me :hihi:

Thanks for that :)
I don't think i'll risk giving my kittens cheese etc, they're only babies (11 week old) so i don't want to risk upsetting they're tiny bellies.
They've eaten chicken and one of them keeps going back to have a nibble on the cat food so i'm sure they're fine.
my eyes only 24-10-2009, 23:05 When I first got my youngest kitten we started him off on kitten pouches then after a week or so he decided that he did not want to eat them any more, so i had to change to kitten tinned food, dont know why he did this, but it did the trick.
I think they're both playing games with us but i can't be too sure...
We came downstairs this morning and the dishes were nearly empty. Gave them some chicken treats (something called dreamies from Jollyes, a bit like biscuits) and they scoffed them. Later on i gave them some fresh chicken, they scoffed the lot again. So, about an hour ago i poured a few whiskas kitten biscuits into each bowl, they've sniffed them and walked away!
So now what do i do? Try them with a totally different flavoured pouch? Give them more fresh Chicken? Give them a kick up the backside (joking :hihi:)
They do seem to be playing normally...
gina2007 25-10-2009, 17:04 I'd say theyre doing what mine do - something 'better' has been offered so they want that rather than the biscuits. Leave the biscuits out and dont offer them anything else - they'll soon go.
Right, i think these 2 little buggers are trying to test my patience now....:hihi:
They're STILL eating Chicken (if i give it them, but they've not had a lot), they'll eat a few cat biccies and they're starting to eat cat food again...however, they're only going through 1-1/2 pouches a day between them - is that really enough for these 2? I wouldn't have thought so. They do have kitten milk in one of they're dishes so maybe they're filling up on that too?
They're still very active so i know they aren't particularly ill but yet when i walk into the kitchen one of them runs after me then sits miaowing at my feet, obviously thinking i'm going to feed them even though there's food in the dishes...
I SO wish cats wasn't hard work...:hihi:
