Around 2 years some live a bit longer though.

We were told 2 yrs with ours and they all died at about 28 / 30 months, but a vet told me that they can live as long as 5 yrs.

good my son had 3 rats and 1 died at 8 weeks the other 2 are doin great thank god

sorry to hear about your sons rat. do you know why he died so young? i was told to expect 2 years but some live you much longer

The oldest one I've had was 5, I usually get 3 to 4 years out of them.

Usually around 3, although we had a beautiful rex boy that lived til he was almost 6 until saddly we had tohave him pts, he like a lot of rats had a huge tumor on his side which the vet said would be hard to remove, it eventually got so big that his was hard for him to walk around. He was a big gentle oldie who would do anything for chocolate and he used to come when you called him.

I think that a few years ago, the average age is about 28 months, and anything above is good.. however, i think that as a general rule, now they are popular pets and vets have become more competent in dealing with rats, they tend to live a bit longer :)

The oldest i've had was just under 3 when he died.. but i've had absolutely rubbish luck with my rats.. probably symptomatic of the fact that i take in all sorts of waifs and strays from unknown backgrounds! The oldest one i currently have is around 27 months, and he's still going strong! *touch wood*
