lomaxkinesis 24-10-2009, 16:27 The Harley now has an ale too.
The scary thing is I have been in all the pubs you listed :-O I've been in Sheffield too long ...
Just shows how little demand there is for real ale - the oft repeated bleat of the failing keg pub landlord :)
Great to have a list Andy. I think inside the ringroad is a reasonable definition of the city centre.
Any chance someone could paste it into a website and create links to where they are, what beers are on etc etc and keep it updated? I know it was mentioned a while ago that there isn't a decent central Sheff cask ale pub guide on the web that is reliable. It would be really handy to point visitors to.
we have Hobgoblin on cask currently and a small selection of bottled real ales in addition.

dogsneck 30-10-2009, 00:08 Its good that pubs in town are serving real ale but in reality they are to busy/ not trained in the keeping and serving of real ale. I took a pint of ale back and asked for it to be changed,(it was cloudy and tasted off) only to be told it was glass chill that made it cloudy.

This is a big problem it's true. Just make sure you always take it back and get them to give you a pint that's right. If we all do it every time without fail then eventually the staff will learn (surely?). If they are young they probably never drink the stuff. It's rarely the chill/condensation effect, if you think it's a bit iffy then take it back - it's not cheap these days after all.
I do wish those places that don't have much of a clue about handling it would have just one cask beer on, then at least it will be reasonably fresh as they pull plenty though.

our staff are trained, 3 of them did a course and passed on the knowledge to the rest of te staff

To be fair, the quality of real ale in Sheffield pubs tends to be markedly higher then in other parts of the country. I got fed up with crappy pints of Greene King IPA when I lived in Essex. Round here it's not any effort really to get a decent quality pint.
goldenfleece 30-10-2009, 12:43 yep, plenty of fine ale around Sheffield....best in the country I would say

Think we've got most of those covered in our Bars (http://sheffield-central.com/bars.htm) and Pubs (http://sheffield-central.com/pubs.htm) pages.
Trouble about which cask beers are available - they change all the time. However if any of the establishments PM me, we'll put a Real/Cask ale logo next to their entry.
