Just watched the free DVD give out in last weekends paper "Millionairess". One thing I thought was doesn't Sophia Loren look good with the hourglass figure. Certainly makes the female shape look good and the posture also. What do you think?

Asaw

You can still see women in England with hourglass figures.
Stand outside any busy supermarket and about every hour , you'll see one.

Look at some of the links in this thread (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51560) and see if you still agree :gag: :suspect:

Warning: they're scary

That's scary, Strix

They all look like someone slipped helium in their Ventolin

Help...I can't breathe!

Sophia Loren? All hips and teeth. She could pout wonderfully though.

To me they all look like fat cows.

I'd rather be slim any day.

I saw a woman on gmtv or something and I could not believe my eyes! She has worn corsets for the last 46 years.....each one being smaller than the last. The result was such a tiny waist that she looked like she was going to snap in half! They asked her to stand up and it was obvious by her movements and the effort required, that she was clearly suffering! Her upper body looked totally top-heavy. In fact she looked like something out of one of those past days "freak" shows. Her husband was a surgeon as well........and despite her obvious breathing difficulties the stupid man stated that she was healthy. He loved the way she looked and in my opinion that poor woman suffered in order to please her idiot husband! I hope to God that I never have to see him regarding my health!
I have an hour glass figure.......it has just got a bit lost in my comfort pack. lol.

An over emphasised hour glass figure is not that attractive but I do seem to remember back in the 70's a lot of women wanted to have an hour glass figure that was
36-26-36
However todays fashion of wearing navel rrevealing tops show beyond a shadow of a doubt that there are an awful lot of girls who seem to have a little paunch, is this caused by lack of exercise, too much lager or do I just see a lot of girls in the early stages of pregnancy?

No wallbuilder.......you just see young women that are far more comfortable with their bodies than they used to be. A little paunch is quite normal and I think it looks nice. After all.......most men have a little paunch as well! Flat bellies are not normal in a woman......they have to be worked at and in the past it was usually done to please their men and the demands of fashion. Nowadays women are waking up to the fact that their bodies are theirs and they are learning to be comfortable with the shape they were designed to be and not to have to starve themselves in order to fit the so called "norm".

I suppose the paunch may be emphasised by the clothing fashion but I still don't think it looks great wearing a [lets say] 28 inch waaistline trousers when you would probably look better and be more comfortable in 30 inch.
I was trying to be polite calling it a paunch and suppose beer-gut would be more descriptive which isn't attractive in young people male or female. Luckily I don't have to worry about a beer-gut as I'm old and so I have the perfectedly acceptable middle aged spread.

Of course the corset would not be complete without the stockings or hold ups either. How many wear those today?

You can have an hr glass figure whatever size you are. It just means that u have hips, waist and a bust.

I love and am very proud of my hr glass figure and wouldn't change it for the world. I wouldn't however show any paunch - if I had one.

Same here. I leave the midriff bearing outfits to my 17 yr. old daughter. Who doesn't have a paunch. But then, neither did I when I was 17.

I personally think Sophia Loren was gorgeous. Anyone seen her in Boy on a Dolphin? I only hope I'll age as well!

Undoutedly one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. And with such charisma and screen presence. She just blows away today's leading ladies.

And it's about time the hourglass figure was more appreciated!

sophia was lovely but the biggest star with an hour glass figure was miss monroe. who if i believe correctly was a size 16/18 andin this day and age would be called (by the uneducated) fat.
a recent study shows female attractiveness is enhanced by hip to waist ratio. (tell me summat i dont know doc) it has nothing to do with being a bag of bones. p.s kate winslet in Titanic (georgous)
long live real women with soft lumps and bumps not self obsesed bags of bones
rant over
p.p.s corsets look lovely within reason

'Paunches' as you call them look vile, and should be covered up. It seems to be a current fashion for girls to have their gut out.
