Has anyone had a kitchen installed by B & Q? Were they good? Any tips appreciated!

Tip:
Contact Coggy, Fnkysknky or Vidster and have them install it

Another tip: The doors and cabinets are packed separately. Just coz a door isn't available, your installation shouldn't be held up - install the cupboard without it's door for now

This may not be a lot of help, but my parents bought from, and had their kitchen installed by B&Q (Dewsbury). When hubby came to fit their laminate flooring for them he commented on how badly it had been fitted. He was able to put some of the things right, but others had to stay as they were.

Also, when dad was talking to the kitchen fitters, they were being paid significantly less than dad had paid B&Q (the fitters were sub-contractors).

If I were you, I'd get a fitter from personal recommendation. You'll probably find you'll pay less (but the fitter gets more).

I'll post with right account now :)

Obviously this is going to look biased but B&Q aren't exactly well known for having the greatest kitchen fitters :)

Feel free to PM me or give us a call if you'd like us to come out and give you a quote.

B&Q like MFI use outside contractors. I bought my last kitchen from MFI and was quoted £1500 for fitting, i approached the fitters directly and got it done for £1000. They were fantastic, items were missing but they get them supplied and items changed on the day for me. All work was completed in one day.

I've since moved and got a further kitchen from MFI and was quoted £1800 for fitting (same fitters). Again approached same fitters privately (who BTW fit for both MFI and B&Q) and was quoted £1000 again. Getting it fitted this week! Amazing how much profit MFI/B&Q make on outside contractors. If you wnat there details feel free to PM me.

My Daughter ordered her kitchen from B&Q and it took them over a month to tell her that what she had ordered (and paid a deposit) was going to be out of stock for a "significant" amount of time. but they could offer her a different design. She cancelled and used a private company which did a great job with better quality doors and fittings for £600 less.

My advice would be to avoid B&Q and shop around at the independent companies.

I work for B&Q in the garden centre (chesterfield) so cannot comment on the kitchens the staff who work in that department are not that bright :hihi: but going by what i have seen while i have worked for them am not suprised

True! The kitchen got fitted fully yesterday. :D Two fitters with occasional help from Electrician/Plumber. I always thought they took a couple of days, but they take a day only (left just after 1700)

We get the odd few that can go in the day but they're usually at rented accomodation where the landlord has gone for cheap and cheerful.

I have been to the MFI twice recently in the late afternoon/early evening and on both occasions found it impossible to get the attention of the staff. There seemed to be only two staff members available. I gave up after a while. I don't know if I was just unlucky, or perhaps not assertive enough.

Totally agree LordC. Although we purchased with MFI, i found it best to make appointments to have things designed up.

We used to take an average of three days to fit a kitchen and that's not with us doing the plumbing and electrics :o
It used to take a day just for the work surface joints and architraves :?
Then again, i was working with an ex master carpenter at the time.

An average kitchen with appliances, rigid units, 1 butt and scribe joint, cornice & pelmet etc. is going to take longer than a day - usually looking at 3 including ripping out old. Could be more with any extra electrical work, tiling etc.
