hiya,

Just looking for some advice.

dd2 is 19 months old and has had a pretty standard bowel habit. If she's had something she shouldn't (she's allregic to milk) she gets the runs same with illness if she's just being "normal" she goes every day at 6pm ish.

My problem is she's not gone since Friday (5 days today) She's being very grumpy but doesn't seem to be trying to go but is constipated. She's eating normally etc but is disturbed sleep wise.

I've tried giving her fresh oj but doesn't work on her (she gets it often enough anyway as she likes it) don't know what else to try.

any suggestions greatly received. I'm reluctant to go to the GP yet as they insisted on giving her lactulose the last time this happened when she was small but with a milk allergy and it containing lactose she had shocking dihorrea for a week!

organix pureed fruit pots. Keep my little uns regular. one a day in the morning. I would suggest seeing if she'd drink some prune juice, if she's really bad. But i expect she may not like the taste!

For info, lactulose isn't related to lactose, so it wasn't triggering her allergy, just being rather too efficient at treating the constipation.

ah ok, the dr said it had a trace of lactose in which is why she was so runny bummed for so long.

Jen - She has the fruit pots often as a desert, no shifting with them. Theres no way she'll drink prune juice yucky! I wouldn't but I'll try her with it

Have you tried 'stimulating' her down there?

When Charlie was like this, the HV said to get a cotton bud and wet it - and stimulate round there without sticking it up. I did this and boy did we get a stinky nappy. Each time hes shown signs of being bunged up, we've waited to see if it comes and when it doesnt I do this and it seems to work.

There is also massaging the bowel that you can try too, achieved my massaging the stomach. This website explains how to do it, probably alot better than I could!

My HV recommended weetabix, also if you can get her to chew on dried apricots, they're supposed to be very effective, or dried dates/ figs - quite sweet so often popular

I done something naughty, I gave her a wee bit of chocolate (3 choc buttons) and she went within 45 mins.

She went to bed a happy girl!

Thanks everyone
