A friend has given me a huge bag of cooking apples fresh from his trees.

I'd like to use them to make apple crumble, but I've no idea how to turn the apples into the lovely sweet and chunky appley stuff that sits under the crumble topping (or how to make the best crumble topping, for that matter).

There are way too many apples for just one or two crumbles, so I presume that once made the stuff is fine to freeze for use in future crumbles?

Basic instructions/recipes appreciated. Thanks.

rather than taking up space in the freezer, you may consider storing the apples as fresh fruit (funny how supermarket packaging doesn't tell us how to do this :suspect: )
