Thanks :):) Strix 20-10-2009, 22:37 Your best bet is to get in touch with a good breeder - something best done by attending a champ dog show, where you'll get to see lots of dogs to compare in one go, talk to the breeders, and get to find out who you should or shouldn't hand money over to :suspect: You have read up well on the breed haven't you? The Springer owners I know display as much exasperation at their pets as beagle owners do - they aren't easy dogs to own, require tons of exercise, and can be quite dominant You should also find out the differences between the showing and working strains of them. I know where you can find a working breeder locally, but I suspect they'd make difficult pets unless you're a 'proper dog person', who understands how to give a dog firm boundaries and not spoil them! Shelber 21-10-2009, 17:28 Are you crazy?? :hihi: only joking As strix has said find some good breeders see Dogs they have & experiance the breed first hand ask plenty of questions and do some reserch. I have two springers, 1 is from a working strain, both parents are working dogs, quite chunky & compact, wants to be into everything, nose goes on over drive out on walks where as My other is a rescue but more of a showing strain i'd say, quite slender with a slightly finer coat, a little quieter than the other but both excellent dogs, complete opposites personality wise but both need plenty of exercise, they keep me fit anyways they'll keep going for miles! They need to no who is boss, right from wrong, boundaries etc or they can become head strong & problems start! Exercise is the key, they are over flowing with energy & if your not prepared to give a springer atleast 2 decent walks aday its the wrong dog for you... All in all i love the breed & wouldnt have any other, very loyal, stick to you like glue, loving, have to be trained correctly from a young age, they have to no their place in the family 'pack' environmant, when i say no, i mean no hehe :hihi: Sarah1985 21-10-2009, 19:06 Check out the kennel club website, they list all the breeders in the area who have recently registered litters. I have a working cocker spaniel whose just as energetic but more just more clingy than springers tend to be. I love my cocker to pieces but hes a nightmare if i dont put tons of effort in. My OH half does an hour and half morning walk and ive just got back for 2 hours on the park doing a mix of obedience practice, reterval, socialising and walking. I knew id picked a high energy breed as whenever it rains and i go out for my walks theres only the spaniels out :) A doggy hobby is a good idea as it ties them out mentally as well as physically. I take him to obedience, he's done puppy agility and im wanting to dabble in field training and fly ball once hes old enough. Spaniels are the most loving dogs in the world. Get it right and you really have the best dog but loads of people think they're a nightmare but its just because they dont do enough with them. Good luck dongle 21-10-2009, 19:12 Are you crazy?? :hihi: only joking As strix has said find some good breeders see Dogs they have & experiance the breed first hand ask plenty of questions and do some reserch.
