I have a toughbook with a broken power jack which has had wires soldered directly onto the board since last January- because I can't find an economic repair. I'm a bit fed up of sparks, and sudden loss of power...
I'm now looking for a new machine, but want to restore this is a back up.
If anyone is interested let us know- I'm really looking for someone with experience of Panasonic Toughbook repairs.
I'll have the device as is if you'r looking to sell... what sort of price are you looking for? (repair will be ATLEAST £50 for one of those)

Not for sale at present I'm afraid- even with a bad supply line it is still a useful backup.
£140 was best quote for repair from someone I felt I could trust- got cheaper offers but felt unsure. I have had it stripped down, and the skill is needed in removing the motherboard.
I could easily do it for much less than that (depending on sourcing parts) if your quoted £140 that's a total rip... even from a store/repair center that does them on a regular basis (as it should be much easier for them)

Would I have to leave the machine with you or could it be done in a day? It's pretty much hooked into everything I do unless I get the new one first.
Needs a battery too- or the charging circuit is knackered.
Just to add- i would be happy paying around the £50 mark if you are well experienced in these sort of repairs.

Here is a picture inside the actual machine;

Tha part to change is on the PCB, top right corner.
as far as the charging circuit goes, DC sockets are often soldiered double sided, one side feeds the machine power, and the other feeds the charging circuit..
it shouldn't be too hard to do in a day... it depends which day (quite busy at the moment) and also if the current DC socket is intact, Other wise i'd need to order a replacement which can take 2-5 working days to be delivered.

If your not selling it and buying new why not run a power lead direct to board with female socket on other end to take male power plug on power supply.Just make sure theres no possible contact inside origenal socket that could short 2 min job.

I may be in touch if this is your line of work- have to get another toughbook up and running first.
It is definately a socket change, it got damaged when the laptop fell out of bed one night and landed on the plug... a toughbook is designed to take drops, shame abou the connectors!
Just to add- if I bring it to you, it will come with just a few screws holding the cover on as it is now, theres loads and it will save time
