I'm sure many women will be relieved to hear that :D

What I didn't appreciate was that these skimpy bits of material and elastic are considered to be chav-wear.

So how come Harvey-Nicholls are reporting a drop in sales of thongs of 17% over last year ? I understood chavs were an economically deprived underclass

Well, the underclass like classy undies. Harvey Nicks spotted a gap in the market and slipped right into it. Now a crack has appeared in its thong sales. Or something.

Because thongs are considered to be chav-wear they often get a bum-rap. It's a sad day when the bottom falls out of the thong market.

I'm sure that sales will snap back and the cracks in sales will be recovered.

all they need is a bit more support.

1997?

But they've been around far longer than that! They arrived in response to the need for a VPL-less look when wearing leggings at the tail end of the eighties - before leggings became the exclusive domain of whales and hippos

I propose a thong amnesty :P

Bring your thongs in anonymously for the good of society.

No fashion fad should be allowed to die without a good song to see it off.

What about (for sado-masochists):

Just a thong at twilight?

or (for heavy metal fans)

The thong remains the same

A sad thong says so much....

There'll always be thong aficionados though... I can't wait til they're behind the times...or forming an underground movement.....or retro....please somebody, shoot me now!
