When some new innovation hits the market - such as all new mp3 player that has flashing disco lights and a built in cocktail bar but will still fit in your pocket without being noticable - these are pretty expensive. However - due to the speed of technology, these prices rapidly fall through the floor.
I paid £400 for my first CD Re-writer valued now at about £30.
So - how many of you rush out to buy the latest gadget regardless of the price and is there any reason for not waiting a few months other than vanity?

i am usually that slow at picking up on new products that by time i know of them they have come down in price!
No - I'm too tight fisted.
I like other people to work the bugs out. Never buy Version 1.0 of anything. :)
I'm patient enough to wait until the market is big enough to support mass production and cheap prices!
I love it when people DO buy the most up to date stuff and then whine a few months later when Version 2 comes out that's cheaper and with more functionality!

I'm completely like this-
Anything new that catches my eye, I'm on to it like a magpie.
I bought the Ipod when it came out and also I bought stupidly the Archos AV340 portable media drive for £550 in PC World only to find out within 3 months down the line, my model was now out of date after only being out 3 months.
That makes me quite angry and pished off to be honest.
But still, technology eh! Aint it brilliant.
I could not live without my Sky+ box now, my standalone DVD recorder + 2 DVD-RW drives in my PC and another fave- my PS2 HD
Makes life so much better for me.
I suppose when the new Blu Ray reader/writers come out, I'll be buying one of them for my PS2 also.

Yay! I've hit 1000 posts!!
Rock on.

I went into a mobile phone shop to see if I could get my phone unlocked, went upto the counter and got out my phone. The man behind the counter looked at it, then looked at me, then prodded it with a finger as if it was going to bite him.
I waited until the dazed expression had faded from his face then asked if my phone could be unlocked. He looked at me, then at the phone, then at me again, and I got the sneaky suspicion he wanted to laugh his head off. So after a few minutes he said - No.
But all the time I knew he was trying to think up something really witty but harmless but was afraid that laughing too much would upset the other customers.
I still stick with my old phone. I've only had it a couple of years or so. I do not rush out and buy new gadgets but I can look at them with wishful eyes. Ah well!

I don't buy things when they first come out. Although I am probably an 'early adopter'. I prefer to buy 2nd or 3rd generation when prices are more reasonable and the rate of change has slowed a little.
Depends what it is really.
If its something that comes along which solves a problem Ive been having for whatever reason then i'll gladly get V1.0
Else I tend to wait for it to either come down in price or a new version comes out.
Its all about judging the product against its future market value!
Usually no I don't - although I wll no doubt be getting myself a Playstation 3 as soon as they're released
Most of the time though I wait a while and let the price drop to a reasonable level.

I find it hard to believe with all the people in here that no-one rushes out to be the first to own whatever it may be - some gadget to show the family and neighbours!
Widening the topic a little - what about first day releases of cd's or games or getting preview tickets for the latest films at the cinemas?

Ah now that's a different matter! If there's a computer (or PS2) game coming out that I want, I don't hang about waiting for the price to go down - I'm off to the shops and buying it as soon as I can get my filthy little paws on it!
I'll looks for bargains generally.
I splashed the cash a bit last year as had a fairly hefty redundancy payout but normally I wont.
